Relapsed. I think the key is keeping yourself busy and changing your environment/routine-As well as staying away from others who use it for a while. I live with someone else who takes it and they will freely share if i ask. Things like that makes it harder. The withdrawal effects aren’t bad and are gone after a week, but the feeling that you “need it” and the compulsion to take it stay with you for a while.

Thank you for this video man. Im in my second year of college and was only diagnosed right before my second semester. Adderall was the worst thing that ever happened to me and I honestly felt all the same ways you did. It’s rough without the artificial clarity the pill gives you, but I think we both know it’s more important to be authentic than to be functioning artificially. I’m working on kicking my addy addiction right now and your video has really helped me feel better about stopping my use of Adderall for good. ADHD is a bitch, but it’s who we are. Good luck with everything man, and thanks again for making this video. More people with ADHD need to be this honest.

@@KL92105 it helps me so much but is also a double edged sword I think if I could feel happy naturally and have energy and confidence I’d never need it but it makes me a productive functional human but I don’t want to rely on it and I used to feel happy naturally and had energy but after years of trauma my ex psychopath family trauma narcissistic abuse anxiety disorders etc I lost it idk if it has to do with the fact I take 10 mg of lexapro since I have a genetic anxiety disorder on my moms side of the family. I don’t take that much so I don’t see why that would zap all the energy. I have severe anhedonia from trauma itself so adderall relieves that (I told my doctor all this btw) I do also have a little bit of ADD. I want to do things in my head but I don’t feel like it my body feels damaged my mind feels damaged probably cause it is! I went from a size 110 after that to 189 another reason I needed adderall was so I could lose weight and be my regular size again. I feel if I work hard enough and rebuild myself piece by piece by neutrally building energy confidence and happiness or normal really just normal that I won’t even need it anymore. I tried to quit but like you said about the Anhedonia it got worse (I had this issue anyway) but it got worse during withdrawals and weeks later those were the worst times. I’d crave it. I’m also in college and have tons of responsibilities and people make me feel like absolute crap because my body is so tired and broken down I can’t hardly function so I felt I had to do something and I was tired of getting told how I’m “not good enough” and I’m perfectly aware of how bad it is it’s not a choice it is a choice to try and change it though and that’s what I’m doing. I went back on mine everyone is different do you but I want to not rely on it and possibly never need it again or only sometimes.

Wow, this speaks so many truths for me and my situation. I’ve been taking add drugs since I was 8, but since quitting my job and becoming a sahm I have personally decided to stop because I didn’t need them to function in life as much as I did in a job. It’s been 4 months since I’ve stopped and it was kinda rough at first but not in the sense that I wish I had it. I hated taking that stupid shit but I truly felt like I needed it to keep my shit together in my job. Right now I am just trying to find myself. I felt like the pill added this dehumanizing layer to me that like you said took a piece of empathy from me, which I knew I would otherwise have. It was awful. I often wonder how much it actually affected my brain development growing up because I have taken it 20 YEARS OF MY 28 year life... I hope in time my body and mind can adjust 😔

I took Adderall and Ritalin for many years as an adult, although have had the disorder for 70 years. My legit doctor retired and finding a replacement made me feel like a junkie, to the extent I just said enough I’m going off. In retrospect I’m glad I got off , though I miss those “invincible moments”. I also found that after many years it began to have the opposite effect on me. Agitated, sometimes confused etc. So I don’t take it anymore ; been around 5 years or more. Can’t say I don’t miss those moments, but it’s not real and can turn its back on you, after being ur best friend. Thanks. Keep it up.

Honestly, I started taking Adderall a year ago because of my sleep disorder hypersomnia. I didn't know much about it at the time, I just knew it was gonna help with my chronic fatigue. The danger of starting it is that you can't forget the feeling it gives you, ever. It is a feeling you miss time and time again. I've been off of it for awhile because I am pregnant. To be fully transparent, I will mention that it is hard to be normal again without it. You can't recreate the mental clarity, hyper focus, and energy that adderall gives you all on your own. You just can't. Sometimes I wonder if some people can ever forget about it because I haven't. It's real hard for me when I have to suffer chronic fatigue on top of pregnancy hormones.

I actually disagree, but not disrespectfully or out of anger. My experience is way different. I took it for hypersomnia and it made me tolerate people way more and helped me calm the heck down from irritability. Unfortunately, when it wore off it sucked, but I was able to function normally without falling asleep every time I sat or layed down. Good job man. I'm in my early 40's, was on Ritilyn when I was a child but my mom had me taken off it b/c she said it made me like a zombie. So about 5 years ago I got prescribed adderall and been on it ever since. Been taking two 20mg er per day. Well, two days ago I got home from work and had an anxiety attack. I didn't take one in the morning yesterday and I managed ok until I got home and started getting the emotional tidal wave of withdrawal. I recognized it and took an adderall to try and correct my chemistry. I'd say within 10 mins the worst anxiety attack I've had in a long time hit me. I thought I might have to go to the hospital, but I found some binaural videos on youtube for getting rid of anxiety and it helped a lot. Today I had to deal with a serious flood of emotions and was tempted to take a half of a 5mg tablet but I think my brain developed an aversion to the drug. I guess it's a good thing, but I wasn't planning on a lifestyle change over the 4th of July holiday. My wife and son are visiting her parents this week so I'm all alone trying to deal with this catastrophe within my body chemistry and trying to cope with the fact that I need to go back to work on Friday. Trying to figure out if I can "normalize" myself to deal with responsibilities within 48 hrs. That's anxiety enough right there.

For me it's diffrent.... I used it when i was like 6 to 8 but my dad is a very smart man. He said you are not yourself anymore I'm gonna tell the doctor you're doing great without now. Yeah i failed many classes without the Ritalin/Concerta never graduated anything worthwhile. But now i started using low doses and i must say it makes me way better in every aspect. Had a big struggle finding the right dose just to have enough focus and not to much so you get irritated. Emotions ruled my life extremely socially anxious etc. But now? It's gone the benefit for me is i have way to much empathy like insane much. Somehow it brings it down to a normal level that i can have empathy without the crippling anxiety without talking to people without actually hearing what they say because my brain is scattered everywhere. I can work now on a normal tempo like the rest now i can keep up with everything. Normally i would work 30 minutes great and after that i was constantly distracted living in my own mind wich was killing me and created anxiety when there was no need to. Now all that is gone now i have the confidence again to open my heart to people. I am the guy again i was when i was little. The little guy in the neighborhood who was a pranker but in a way that didn't many anyone mad in a way it made everyone happy. I was known as the always smiling kid who wanted the best for everyone. And now that real me is slowly coming back the wall of anxiety is crumbling away a little bit daily. Once i am ready to face all the pain i will stop the medication. I just need it for now max a month just to see it can be different without anxiety over thinking. Xanax did the same for me last year from them i knew i am not depressed this is life and it hurts same like a relationship they will hurt too. But the thing is you can't be happy without accepting all the pain in life. Now i just don't care if my brain starts racing like this is boring don't want to do this etc. I am in charge now not my emotions or negative thoughts they're a by product of nature, we don't live in dangerous or unsafe like it was 1000 years a go. Where everything could kill you the smallest fleu. The conditions now are so much better but our brain is still like that constantly on the lookout. Most people will never know or see it but once you do it's a relief you're not anxious or paranoid that isn't you. That's your reptilian brain talking because it has been for sooo long, my dad once told me look different don't trust your feelings because your heart is blind. Always use your brain. And keep your emotions and thoughts separated. If your emotions and shit doesn't mean you have a bad life/day just accept it and don't care about it. The only NEGATIVE effect is sleeping it's hard i work in the dishwash in 2 restaurants at the same time. Yesterday one side had 350 customers and the other 260. And it's quite an exspensive restaurant so everything must be prestene. Because it's so bussy and there's so much to do i finish from 12 in the night to a max of 2 in the night. Most of the time i can't sleep till 6 a clock wich i never had without that drug. So yeah now only using it on the 3 extremely busy days we have. YOU NEED SLEEP it's so important one of the best ways to heal your mental toxins etc. In this time I've learned so much about ADHD/ADD how they have effect on your emotions and anxiety etc. Now i have peace for the first time in my life. It's just how it is for me i just needed to see it and accept it. And the 3 times a week i take it not for myself but for my colleagues in the dishwash one is 40 and the other 46 just so they won't have so much stress. I'm just starting methylphenidate treatment for ADHD (21yo) I'm really hoping that for me it will save me from a lot of pain, having ADHD run undiagnosed in the background has lead to me being severely bullied, chronically lonely, fired from almost every job I've had, impulsively getting into seriously unhealthy relationships, marriage with said unhealthy person, drug addiction, alcoholism and long stretches of unemployment. I'm still seeking information on both sides of the fence, taking medication vs not taking medication but so far the complaints I've heard from people who stopped taking the drug pale in comparison to the pain this condition causes me left untreated.

@@R.L.Kramer I think i know what are you talked about lack of empathy and flatness or "not feeling", loosing contact with very emotional part of self. I lost it two times, once when I get medicine for obesity, wich was designed as SNRI but not really helped in depression but caused weight loss. Usually I self medicated my mood by food, when some asked if I want some thing from grocery, my mind instantly give me a hint. With this med it was... nothing... no hint no desire. My mood became stabilised but in low setting, I withdraw from social life, fell not worthy but not suicidal, rather reconciled with fate and unhumanly brutal onest realistic opinion of my place in the world. Med was banned because of some possible heart damage. Maybe med changed me, maybe I was so used to "be me" for over 30 years that it was hard to accept or maybe med disabling my "self medication" moved my real problem to the everyday light. Finally I learned few things wich sinked in for good, for example that if I eat half bag of fries instead of whole, world will not fall and I will not die. Before I didn't realised that this had so anxious potential.

I have been on Adderall for the last 10 years and was on Ritalin before that. I can tell you the biggest thing that has worked for me and others I know. Always try and get to bed every night at the same time and make sure you take your last dose early enough to not have sleep disturbance. Eat a healthy breakfast everyday and try to get a brisk walk or jog if you can everyday if you can. The majority of dopamine resides in our gut and is produced from leg activity and other muscular activities. They have proven that ADHD do not cause adrenal fatigue through many reputable studies. If the medications are giving you headaches that is not a good thing and be sure and talk to your doctor about that ASAP.

I took adderall for YEARS cause it was the only thing that worked and that I didn’t build a tolerance to. It definitely took me at least 5-7 years to be able to function in work and life without it. One thing I still notice to this day is an emotional detachment from people compared to how I was when I was on Adderall. Not sure if that’s a long term side affect but I’m sure it definitely changes the way your brain works as you go through adulthood.

It took me many months to learn to live without it and get to know the people around me again. To care about people again. Exercise and proper nutrition has helped a lot. Prayer and trusting in Jesus Christ was crucial for me. I've been off it about 1.5 yrs now. I still want to take it sometimes but I can't go back to living like that. I am opposed to amphetamines for people with overly acute consciousnesses. Please look into the following if you want some possible safer alternatives: shilajit, agmatine sulfate, inositol, uridine monophosphate, iodine, polygala. This is not a 'stack', I am just throwing out a bunch of different compounds that one can begin to research extensively before they decide if they want to try it or not. Of course, if one doesn't exercise a couple times a week and have a decent diet, that should be looked into first.

The problem is the neglect of medications needed to help with the withdrawal. I find it astonishing that amphetamine/stimulant addiction has no well know withdrawl drug. Opiate users have many options with methadone, Suboxone, naltrexone,etc.. alcohol/benzodiazepine users have gabapentin yet nothing for Adderall other than “therapy” when doctors hand it out like candy. There is a withdrawal there is body pain there is mental side effects, etc. and your dopamine system is screwed for a very long time. You can’t just let someone go without helping with medications and only using therapy. There are ways to help upregulate dopamine and not just stick this out.recently I read some pieces of Dr. Edward Fruitman who seems to be extremely knowledgeable with the importance of medications needed to ease the withdrawal. He also mentions testing as many people like myself ultra metabolizers. He brought up Topamax(Topiramate) in several studies.they used it in cocaine and methamphetamine addicts during tapering off. Not only did it help reduce tolerance but it actually increased the positives instead of attenuating them like most tolerance/tapering drugs do. Just because the rest of the seizure is rare from amphetamine withdrawl doesn’t mean you can negate all the other side effects that come with it which can be very life-threatening and ruin someone’ entire world.

Recently since I got my new prescription of Adderall 25mg XR for the school day and a 15mg IR for the afternoon for homework and such. I like what it does to me, I find my mind at peace and finally paying attention in school. I like what it does to me, I felt as if I was a very annoying person off the meds but now I feel as if I’m “normal” and can just stay to myself and not have to try to be an attention whore class clown. I can not decide if this is in my best interest for my health to continue taking this daily due to the negative long term impact it will have on my dopamine levels and overall neurochemistry. I meditate, do yoga and take 20mg XR of Adderall daily. Adderall by itself will not work and you must have frequent visits with a psychiatrist. Diet also is very important. I am sorry that you can no longer visit your doctor to get the prescription anymore. @@R.L.Kramer I think it was not mean. I also have impression that if I correctly assumed ADD as only diagnosis or only treated diagnosis was shameful shortcut taken by your doctor and/or other adults. But it not diminishes value of your story, but adds new dimensions. I have a selfish desire to know more, but I know that probably never happened.
