Just so you know a lot of people were able to get refunds. I'm only 7 mins into the video right now so idk if you mentioned that or not. But just so you know. People were able to email a guy named Michael and then they send you a refund if you send your products back. Or you can keep it and join the action lawsuit maybe.

I’ve talked to my husband who works for one of the largest beauty manufacturer company of the world. He thinks that devacurl must’ve changed their formula within the last few years with cheaper ingredients. Some larger companies do this to make even more profit. Devacurl will not come out and talk about this because that will be millions of dollars gone in profit. The ingredients they’re using must be the issue. Obviously the formula was good at one point, but seems like they got greedy and wanted more profit. What will most likely happen is word of mouth will make them go under. The more people talk about it the better, this SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. Beauty product should not be doing this to anyone. Please do not use these products if anyone out there is!

Yes this all of this! Ether an ingredient change or a cheaper plastic with chemical leeching is my best guess! Money hungry companies will do everything including hurting customers if it gives them an extra penny it’s disgusting 👿

leah rose with shipping and warehouse issues that’s definitely a possibility. My husband still thinks it’s the formulation and the ingredients. Just for reference (for everyone reading) my husbands factory makes lotions, shampoos, conditioner, and body washes. That’s all they do at that factory. So that’s why I’m asking him questions since he knows more about this kind of stuff.

She (A) also never cleansed properly and used a lot of oils. Deva curl products may have been contaminated but it's also important to point out not clarifying can cause what she suffers from. I don't think deva curl has a good enough clarifier, their build up buster is just mis. water...

Using devacurl products also made my hair fall out, destroyed my curl pattern, gave me extremely dry itchy scalp, and i now have dandruff for the first time in my life. I had been using Devacurl for about 5 years. I just found out about this controversy this past weekend. I had stopped using my devacurl products two months ago, and switched to Nioxin hair loss system because my hair was so damaged and falling out in chunks and it was making me so upset. Low and behold, it stopped falling out about two weeks after I stopped using Devacurl. I have joined the facebook group for those who have experienced this and I am going to be emailing them tomorrow to get a refund. I also just ordered Olaplex #3 from Sephora because I hear it helps. I googled chemical hair damage and started crying because I finally understand that my curls have been completely ruined due to this issue that they refuse to address and here I was thinking all this time that I was doing something wrong. I know exactly how you feel! I used to have beautiful full waist length curly hair and now even though it is still to my waist i will have to get it cut significant amounts of it every other month until I can fully get rid of the damaged hair!

Thank you for speaking out. Melt Into Moisture is the only Deva product I have ever used. I started using it in 2019, after purchasing it from Ulta. I've been experiencing massive hair loss, I have lost more than half of my density, and now I have a very dry scalp with areas that appear almost iridescent in the nearly bald patches at my temples. Prior to using Devacurl, my hair was long, very full with beautiful curls, that I only air dried. Now my hair is fried, frizzy and tangly with straight straw like ends, curl pattern is shot; despite being cut several times trying to remove the damage, but it's all damaged. I spent months trying to figure out if it was due to some kind of medical issue, it wasn't.

I started on DC when it first came out and was owned by Lorraine Massey. My curls were amazing! So much so that strangers would approach me and ask about my hair. I eventually left DC to try other products. Not as good results as DC, so, about 3 years ago, I switched back with great expectations. I didn't realize that Lorraine had sold it and it had changed hands several times. My hair got stringy and I was loosing a lot! I changed to other products and my hair health was restored. At that time, I didn't make a connection between DC and my hair issues, but....looking back, I realize that was what was going on.

I know I don’t need to explain to you the devastation I’ve been going through. My devistion since finding out feels tripled...your tears are understood. I’m so sorry that that’s happened to you! It’s really an eye opener to watch out for brands we think we can trust. I came across your video after watching TONS of other ones just like yours 😔. I can't believe that a product I've used for 4 years could have this affect. It is truly heartbreaking and I understand your pain!! Curly hair is SO hard to deal with in general... Having to deal with this on top of it is devastating. It made me really sad when you started crying because I've been very emotional about my hair as well. I had no idea what could've caused this. Can I say that you have the cutest curls ever? I'm redhead and my hair looked like yours when i was a baby !< Also, I advise you to make your own hair products ! I don't have the money to buy good natural gel for curly hair so I just use flaxseed gel. It costs cents and my hair never felt better. I can leave it in the freazer the days I don't use it and defrost it for the days I need it. If i'm lazy or traveling i'm just buying aloe vera gel, but I still prefer flaxseed gel since it's cheap and I don't have to add anything to it such as alcohol which dries hair.

I’m interested to know if this is caused by devacurl only or the curly girl method in general. I’ve noticed all curly girl youtubers have had a change in hair texture (except manes by mell who occasionally uses sulfates and silicones). Is it the fact we’re not properly cleansing our scalp because of the lack of sulfate? It’s strange. I haven’t used devacurl but I have the same exact issues. Could it be other products with similar ingredients to devacurl?
@Jadeikens4 жыл бұрын
Sara I’m not strict cg! So I’m pretty positive it’s not that, I still use my selsun Blue when my scalp bugs and it has sls 😅 But it can happen if the scalp is not properly cleaned there will be scalp issues. The reason I have come to fully believe it’s devacurl is that the breakage is only where that was applied and exactly how I applied it even where it was only the lengths and the stretching of my curl pattern only in those areas as well
@Jadeikens4 жыл бұрын
Sara I would recommend clarifying with a sulfate at least once a month!

I stopped using Devacurl since the summer for the exact reasons you mentioned. I was only using Devacurl so I know this is the reason more changed. When my hair was wet after a wash I saw so much scalp I looked like I was going bald. The breakage was thinning my hair that much. Since I've stopped i look like I'm slowly growing my hair back. The back of my head in the canopy area was looking like a bald spot forming is finally filling in. I cant tell how many mornings before work I would spend trying to fluff that area so that it wouldn't look balding. My self esteem was sinking to an all time low and I couldn't explain why. Until I saw a segment on Curl Ninja. When Stephanie mentioned all her similar issues with Devacurl I had a viola! moment and immediately stopped. I literally weaned off the DevaCrack. There is hope and recovery for your hair once you stop.

I used pantene a lot so sulfates and silicone were my go to. My profile picture is from before I learned how to treat my natural hair. In mid 2017, I got my first devacurl cut and I loved it. I used drug store products though cause I couldn't afford the brand (sulfate and silicone free). September 2019 was when I first purchased devacurl one conditioner. Since I'm frugal, I was using my old conditioner until it ran out. It probably wasnt until late october/early November that I started using the bottle. My curls turned stringy and frizzy. I didn't know if it was my bed time routine or working out too much. It just got so deflated. The way your hair looks now, is what my hair used to look like and I really hope to get back to that.

Hey I’ve heard that you can return DC products if you’ve experienced issues. That’s according to Curl Ninja. And I have no idea if it works like DC gel, but Curly Susie swears by the Bioterra Gel that’s available at Sally’s. It’s affordable and not a hard hold as far as I can tell. I’ve also heard that Jessicurl and Bouncecurl make great products. Here’s to healing 💚

Jadeikens I have some mild thinning on my temples and I only used the no poos for a few months in the summer and early fall of last year. I purchased the curly & super curly travel size kits from the DevaCurl website. I didn’t didn’t even finish one of the no poos because I began to notice that my little “baby hairs” or “edges” had basically disappeared and I started to struggle with dry flaky patches on my scalp. My little baby hairs have grown back since I stopped using the no poos and conditioners and my thinning spots are starting to fill in again. I did purchase some of their stylers last October (from Ulta) but I’m putting them aside and discontinuing my use of them for the time being until we get some real answers from DevaCurl about what’s going on.

Yeah I stopped cold turkey this weekend using their products after seeing all these videos and comments. Luckily I only used them for a few months so it’s not to to bad but I just had a wash day with a different shampoo I still have and the briogeo don’t dispair repair hair mask and I feel already my scalp is not so itchy anymore and my hair is feeling a lot better. Bought new products from briogeo so hope to get them soon and try them and get my hair healthier again. Specially cause I started my cg journey with devacurl products. The stringynes looks familiar cause that was how my hair would look after using the products and I have 2a to 2c hair mind you. Way different hair type to yours and the stringy parts look like my hair. Might go back to geovanni products although I do love paraben, sulfate and silicone free products now cause I do feel that part of the products made my hair a little healthier.

I'm having similar issues as you. I also have psoriasis which has flared in the exact same spots as you and is the worst I've ever seen it on my hairline. My scalp is itchier too. I started the curly girl method about a year and half ago and slowly incorporated more and more devacurl products because they were all silicon and sulfate free and I was overwhelmed trying to find products. I started using their gel about 6 months ago and I loved the way it made my hair soft and not as crunchy as using the cheaper gels. My hair is wavy with some ringlets underneath. Over time it has gotten more stringy and will be curly at the top and straight near the ends. This gets worse as the day goes on. My hair is frizzy and looks like it wants moisture. I feel like my hair is getting to the point where it looks as bad as the first month I transitioned to curly girl. Some days, like on the weekends, I'll wash my hair and put nothing in my hair to give it a break and those days my hair seems curlier with more volume than days I use their products. I'm going to completely boycott them and try other products and see how my hair does. It'll be interesting to see if my psoriasis calms down too. If anyone has recommendations of products to use instead I'm all ears.

Ahhh, the penny finally drops. I've been using Deva Curl the majority of the time for the past year--shampoo, conditioner, mousse and sometime curl cream. I very rarely diffuse dry my hair. I've colored my hair for years, but my stylist has used the same products for years--with never any problems. I already have very fine thin hair and use Rogaine. However, I was pretty happy with how my hair looked--until the past several months. Over time my hair started thinning in places--mostly on the sides of my head. I wondered if the Rogaine wasn't working any more. Some of the thin spots are actually pretty bald. And the other thing I noticed is that on the thinnest side of my head, my hair almost always is frizzly--even when I'm straight out of the shower and my hair is soaking wet. I don't KNOW if its Deva Curl, but I don't want to take the chance. There are so many good products out there--I'm moving on! Thanks for this video. I hope your hair recovers quickly.

The only thing I’ve added this past year, was Marc Anthony curl cream activator. I got it because watching KZbin convinced me that I needed this product in my life. My hair is now a mess; it’s like the curl code broke down. So much frizz and the curl isn’t there anymore. I’ve had a lot of hair fallout and Literally some parts just do not remember how to curl. I've noticed weird curl patterns, hair loss and a general "frizziness" about a year ago and someone told me it might be because of my DevaCurl products (I use their gel and heaven in hair deep conditioner) and I didn't believe it because my hair always looks BOMB on the first day. But then on the second day and after I start noticing all these things that you list here. I also lose hair in the exact same spots that you mentioned, sides and part. I never put two and two together because I've always had a big forehead and crooked hairline but jesus christ, it has gotten worse. I would recommend looking into making your own flaxseed gel - there are various recipes you can follow to make the gel, but the gist of it is to boil some flaxseeds in water until it thickens (about 10 minutes) let cool and then strain through a cheesecloth/linen rag. It doesn't have the same kind of hold as conventional, store bought products, though it does provide a nice amount of curl definition. Just something to consider that's cheap, clean, and essentially waste-free.
