As a Giants fan, I remember when Oracle opened in 2000, and it was noted that it was privately financed. I grew up a huge Raiders fan and I want the A's to remain in Oakland because this project is also privately financed. If this project gets killed, it would be an absolute shame, and send the message out that any investment in Oakland is not worth it because of red tape. This would lead to further housing crisis as it would deter anyone to make those necessary investments. I certainly hope Oakland and Alameda County make this happen.

I am not an A’s fan, I am not from Oakland (or the West Coast for that matter), and I am absolutely not a fan of the government expending such a significant amount of money to build a project for a billion-dollar team owned by a multi-billionaire that has actively threatened the city. However, I am a huge supporter of the city of Oakland having a Major League Baseball team, specifically the Athletics. I am also a huge supporter of the A’s getting a new ballpark, specifically this beautiful-looking proposal. I wish it wouldn’t take such a significant public investment but if the city and county say that it’s worth it and the voters agree then I believe it may very well be the right decision.

Let me help with part of that: local government is not giving money to this project. They are going to pay the a’s back a specific amount (thru project’s own tax revenue) for infrastructure costs that were fronted… and this project is also attracting federal monies that otherwise wouldn’t be applicable to Oakland. So let’s just make that part clear.

Obviously you are much more informed on this project than I am, seeing as it’s impact on you would be significantly more dramatic than on me I’d expect that. As a New Yorker I’m still a bit unsettled by the idea of any public money being involved as we saw with the Mets and my beloved Yankees in 2009 and are actively debating for the Bills now, but the way you describe this it seems that it won’t be quite as egregious. I also understand there’s significant mixed-use in this project, which also helps alleviate concern on my part. Again, I appreciate the clarification and the good work you’ve been doing here on the channel.

@@cypothingy Yeah we got a few state/fed grants specifically for the Port section. So it's either use it or it eventually goes to something else I suppose. This project is going to be a blast. Right now I think A's are trying to squeeze Oakland for whatever they can and the same goes for Oakland, trying to Squeeze the A's for as much affordable housing as they can.

We had Oakland A's season tickets from 1969-95. My Dad was sports director for KCBS Radio in San Francisco. So, I also saw many Giants and 49ers games at Candlestick. We always preferred the Coliseum as compared to seeing games at Candlestick. We also had season tickets for the Oakland/California Golden Seals. The Seals never had good ownership. However, it was still very depressing when the Seals left for Cleveland. So, we have seen the Seals, Raiders, and Warriors leave Oakland. I sincerely hope Howard Terminal will become the new home for the Oakland Athletics!

Hey Brodie, I'm like you, I grew up in the Bay Area in the late 80s. My first memories of A's baseball were of an incredible winning team with mega superstars that went to World Series every year. They need anew home in Oakland. They deserve a new home in Oakland, and Howard Terminal would be a jewel in the East Bay.

I support the Howard Terminal site. I don’t support the ballpark design though. Looks extremely tacky. Need a H&K type design. Far better. I want it looking better than the park next door. This design doesn’t cut it

Look at renderings of every project and then the actual build… drawings are just a loose concept.

In choosing between forging a distinctive architectural profile that no MLB stadium has ever had (it was designed by a Scandinavian architect and it shows) and going with yet another brick walled faux-retro Main Street USA Populous/HOK design like 20+ other teams already have, they went with the former, and I for one love it. Praying this project happens for that alone

@@DanyaRomulus I just can’t get into it for some reason. I don’t necessarily want faux brick type, but something comparable in looks. Dynamic. Something appealing to the eye, and a park that doesn’t look 1940ish. This looks outdated. The old coliseum in the 1980’s looks better than this to me.

The Coliseum is the perfect location. The NFL came in before the Raiders moved and and declare the Coliseum property, the greatest transportation hub of any Sports facility in United States. People want convenience in a good price point in Wi-Fi that works. These Billionaires are to out of touch with the Common Man.

I agree with what you say Brodie but it appears that the A’s ownership is trying to keep attendance down so they can move to Las Vegas. The price of tickets and parking keep going up and they continue to dismantle the team.

Imagine if Gavin Newsom allowed gambling 🎰 let’s say a max of 10 casinos down 73rd aka Hegenberger imagine what that would do for Oakland and that area by the airport. I’d build that stadium 🏟️ right there on the Coliseum property.
