Hi, I'm a current junior in college studying psychology and exercise science. Although, I do enjoy what I study I have found I am not fully passionate about it and I am leaning towards my true passion of the oceans and pursue a career in oceanography, environmental science, marine bio, etc. I'm still exploring my options but I feel like I am in the same boat u were since I too was thinking about medical school or obtaining a Phd in physiology, etc. All I know right now is that I can't ignore what I keep thinking about and what truly interests me which are weather, climate, oceans, marine life, and taking care of it. It's nice knowing someone else had a similar experience!

It’s almost near the end of my sophomore year of high school, and usually by that time it’s best to start thinking about what you want to do when you’re older. I’ve been thinking about going into oceanography. I’m just not sure which branch. But this video is helpful. I hope I find something I enjoy in the future.

Hope I'm not too late to comment. I am currently too having this debate, I'm currently a Physics undergrad and I've been heavily debating whether I want to pursue Oceanography after my degree, or to switch to engineering now. I want to go on boats and do studying on oceans and their animals. But I'm afraid that maybe that career would be difficult, and engineering is an easier and also enjoyable choice. :/

It's never too late to comment! As shown in the video, Jenan was having similar thoughts during undergrad and her Sea Semester was a big turning point. Look into getting some hands on research opportunities, field/study abroad courses and REU programs. Also, check out pathwaystoscience.org and the ocean science options. Either career has its own rewards and difficulties so some hands on work could really help point you in the right direction for you!

Ocean engineering is also a thing, if you kinda wanna combine both interests! I think they work on the ocean data collecting tech stuff

Very interesting!! I'm struggling with science though, says the marine science master's student. 😅

Don't give up! Believe me we all struggle with science sometimes, even as science professionals...

Any sort of guidance to an aspiring marine biologist? Hearing that there arent many oportunities really freaked me out😅

Didn't mean to freak you out! Just to be honest that it can be competitive. The opportunities are there, and if it's really something you love to do, not only will you find a way, but we need you! Try to find research opportunities in marine science as much as you can, and focus on doing well in your science and writing classes in college.
