I want to say that you are inspiring, specifically to me. You and your channel have helped me rebuild my sense of resilience and form a practical mindset around weapons in general, and myself. A lot of your reasons for training I personally identify with but hadn't done anything for due to poor behaviour in the the past on my part. Finding my reapproach to being defensively oriented is largely due to reflecting on and revisiting your videos. My enthusiasm for it came back naturally afterwards. I do think it's had positive effect, as not only do I have responsible friends now (and can identify them better) but the people I care about trust me even if they do not trust in firearms or other self defense methods. I as I am today wouldn't be possible if I hadn't taken care to retrain my mindset from pre-transition to the one I have post-transition, your videos have been very influential in me doing that work. Won't make it long winded, but thank you!

A very important question, because I'm not really a gun girl and don't have money for guns but I do have martial arts as a special interest - do you know of anyone like you for martial arts on youtube or any other platform? Queer/queer friendly, maybe specifically feminine, and very straightforward and factual? Martial arts, like guns, are dominated by men that I don't really want to be around as a queer trans woman, and it's scary and exhausting and makes it difficult to engage with something I've loved since I was a small child
@TacticoolGirlfriend8 ай бұрын
I wish I had a good answer for you, because this stuff is very important and martial arts is always going to be more practical for most personal defense topics, but I don't really consume much martial arts media online, especially because those concepts are so heavily hands-on. Everyone has the inherent right to defense in a context befitting the modern conditions. In our modern world, that means firearms. This right begins to dip in to the realm of necessity particularly when you're part of a marginalized population. With the increasingly open hateful rhetoric going around in the "community", which I find to be poignant and eye opening, the risk of essentially pogroms occurring against various populations seems to be headed back to already historically established trends. And if someone were to call my concerns ridiculous I could point them to a litany of hate crimes and mass cullings of different populations that absolutely heightens the need for people to get out, train, and become proficient. One of the many interesting stances I find of the typical left being anti gun when the left consists of specifically the people who need guns the most. But that's another conversation.

I've worked EMS long enough to see how fragile those systems actually are, so I make sure I have enough food, water, medical gear & other supplies on hand to get me and a few others through a rough couple of weeks, and enough weapons and ammo to manage any encounters I may have with the kinds of folks who perceive that type of situation as a ticket to go all Mad Max and / or start hunting marginalized people for sport. 16:40 I'm a prepper and I actually was and still am prepared for pandemics, I can give you a small list of things that prepping helped me with. -Basic Food and necessities storage, thanks to it, I did not fall into stockpiling frenzy like most people, and generally I was able to leave for shopping less often. -I already had few boxes of gloves, masks, disinfectants and above all toilet paper. -I also have better knowledge how to keep myself safe and healthy. -Being more prepared for pandemics and long stay indoors also made me more mentally stable, and I didn't fall into depression during that time like most people I know. PS. You say that you are not a prepper, but all the reasons you stated for why you train are fundamentals of being a prepper.

Yes, this is all very good. I tried to make it clear I was being really subjective in my criticism, but I get how that may appear reductive. But yes, some absolutely could argue I'm a prepper - I'm not opposed to that, but just want to at least make a distinction about what I'm talking about when it comes to motivations around my training with firearms in particular.

Great vid. You're absolutely right. More people should be honest about the reasons why they gravitate towards firearms. Is it for self-defense and protecting innocent lives? Or is it something else, perhaps a desire to feel strong or masculine? Reflecting on why we're drawn to things can only strengthen those attachments. If you can't articulate a positive reason for owning a gun, then that might be worth considering.

Disaster preparedness is important and I think everyone should do it to some degree. I think the prepper community often focuses on unrealistic SHTF scenarios instead of more likely sorts of disasters. But either way, guns shouldn't be seen as part of prepping (unfortunately a lot of preppers don't see it that way).
@SCFreedom738 ай бұрын
Interesting... and how exactly is it that guns should not be seen as part of prepping? Why not? I mean, if you don't see it as such, that's perfectly fine. But there is actually no dogma surrounding why one makes use of, and trains with guns. I, for one, feel that firearms are tools. Their role is defending myself, my son and other loved ones. They are as important in my prepping approach, the same way a hammer, nails, water filter or other tools are important. Also, what constitutes a "realistic" scenario? Not picking a fight here. Just an honest question aimed at an honest exchange of ideas.

As someone who has taught prepping and tried to be a voice in the community the biggest thing I try to teach is staying put. Unless the situation warrants leaving like fire, flood, or tornado staying still is the best way to keep your self and your family safe. Keep some food/water to last at least 2 weeks with out power because sometimes mother nature is not kind to us.

For me, personally, I train because I want to be proficient enough that I know I will have the time, skills, and confidence to employ other tactics so I never use a firearm before I NEED to resort to using a firearm. People poorly trained with firearms OFTEN resort to using them too quickly because as much as they may hype themselves up, deep down they KNOW their level of skill, and lack thereof. I've been in the security industry for 29 years, currently as a consultant and locksmith, but I did a lot of armed uniform or plain clothes when I was younger. I've had three situations that came VERY close to requiring me to use lethal force, two where it would have very likely be considered legally justified even if I had just draw and fired the moment they occurred. Because I had confidence in my ability with my firearm, and other skills, I had the confidence to use other tactics to deescalate the situations.

It's kinda like learn history, you may have one opinion based in what you belive or what you've been told; but then you learn true history, the facts and not sugar coated BS... one would see the things different, as they really were and how that applies to the today reality.

I would also be looked at by the LGBT community as someone who would be "Against" your "Lifestyle" Well I am fist and foremost a Christian who believes in being nice to EVERYONE. I also believe EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AND THERE FAMILIES WITH ANYTHING, AT ANY TIME AND OR PLACE! and that EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF BELIEFS HAS THE RIGHTS TO ANY FIREARMS THEY DEEMED NECESSARY FOR THERE DEFENSE OR THERE FAMILIES DEFENSE! The Second Amendment is for EVERYONE! so is Prepping, and reading through the comments, everyone should be able to get Hand to Hand Combat Training and not feel like who they are or how they have chosen to live THERE life, no matter what. There is a LBGT Couple, 2 Lady's that use my Range about once a month. My Girlfriend and Daughter have shown them that Firearms are something they shouldn't be scared of and that real believers in God take care of EVERYONE! and f**k what someone else thinks. If things go south in this Country we are going to need all kinds of people to make sure we are all safe, Political beliefs be damned.

I like how she said she's not a prepper then proceeds to say "The only reason I have XYZ is for an unknown future and unknown threats." Which is exactly what preppers do if I'm not mistaken. Remember to prep some medical supplies too and know how to use them. You won't be the only person with a gun.

There's a lot of culture war baggage around self-identified capital P Preppers; think of the absolute morons the network found for that NatGeo show, unsavory Turner Diaries style survivalists, or the character deficiencies of a Dale Gribble stereotype and that's the image much of her audience will have; a Walter Mitty/mall ninja yahoo, with dreams of post-apocalyptic conquest and gucci battle rattle but no clue how to mend clothes or purify drinking water and no interest in helping anyone other than himself. The specific subset of moron will talk your ear off lovingly about his (expired, asbestos-filtered) gas mask but then whined petulantly at the thought of taking any air filtration precautions whatsoever during Covid and didn't have any spare TP. Bringing left of center people on board with being sensibly ready for life's uncertainties often involves a lot of specific effort to present the audience an image/model of preparedness that makes explicitly clear that it is Specifically Not That Stereotype. Then once you've helped them set up with basics they get to have the realization of "Oh, wait, there are preppers out there living quietly and not being a turd and now I'm one of them."

Yes, I tried to make it clear I was being really subjective in my criticism, but I get how that may appear reductive. More than anything, it's a gripe being identified with some of the prepper community that I've seen (especially that on the right of the aisle) that has the myopia I was lamenting. But yes, some absolutely could argue I'm a prepper - I'm not opposed to that, but just want to at least make a distinction about what I'm talking about when it comes to motivations around my training with firearms in particular.

@@TacticoolGirlfriend if you are curious about prepping from a trans / leftist perspective, there is an excellent podcast called Live Like the World is Dying. It looks at prepping from a community and mutual aid driven perspective instead of the tinfoil hat survivalists we usually think of.

I realize we're just disagreeing about definitions here but I'd argue that "preparing for an unknown future" is exactly what prepping is, at its core (regardless of what right wing self identified preppers believe). Ultimately if we're preparing for any scenario where a plate carrier, DMR, and night vision becomes a good idea, I think we're prepping.

Fantastic video as always! I will say though, that I understand that it’s YOUR perspective you’re sharing with us of course, but the presumption that guns COULDN’T be toys, just because they’re tools is something I definitely disagree with. I understand that’s how you view them as youre not a gearhead/mechanically inclined/love guns as a piece of technology. And you just train in furtherance of their use as a self defense implement. Tools are VERY often toys as well. I am one of those many who are obsessed with tools. Countless tool fiends in the world. I love how fascinating they are, the sounds they make, wanting to collect them and interact with them, tinker. It’s “consumerist” sure. But even if I was in a communist or anarchist society I would still be fascinated and want these things as personal property to have fun with, tinker, and understand on a physical/personal level. Or even build my own. Something with my severely adhd brain just loves this stuff. Guns too. Not just tools. As well as a million other hyperfixations. Along with tools, most weapons for the majority of human history have been personalized, tinkered with, had collectors, and those who made weapons into a hobby or even sports. I don’t think there is anything fundamentally wrong with that. And generally the more you anthropomorphize a tool, the more you tend to both care about it and deeply understand its function. Respect it. So I am definitely an advocate for that perspective on tools, even if thats unpopular among the left wing gun community. Same with cars, car fanatics, car modders, car collectors, etc are all far more likely to both understand and take care of their cars properly. Even just the idea that it’s “not a hobby” for you to train. I mean if it’s something you enjoy, and you’re doing it in your spare time, I would call that a “hobby” even if it’s “serious” or important. Though in your case it’s also your job, being a KZbinr, so maybe it’s not a hobby in that case. But yeah, unpaid task that you enjoy in spare time, definitely a hobby. In the same way exercising can be a hobby even though that’s something everyone should do. Thank you for coming to my ted talk lol. Hope you’re doing amazing TG. You let it slip in the video you have a wife?!? If that’s recent then congrats, if not, then disregard. Unrelated to the video topic sorry! Just wanted to cheer on a fellow trans sister’s happiness :).

It literally all comes down to luck and planning. if you didnt plan to get carjacked at gunpoint, the moment your hands are not where the attacker wants them to be, your head is a faucet. If someone armed has the drop on you, it means you didnt plan, it means THEY planned and are likely prepared for you to react defensively.
