There are a few here on KZbin. Transitioning is a very personal thing and it's not right for everybody who may feel or have some traits of the opposite gender. I think the transphobic shouting is due to the little acceptance that transgenders have gained and the fear that it will encourage mainstream society's belief that transitioning is a whim, or phase and is to be discouraged.

Because the LGBTQ+ community treats de-transitioners appallingly. They're told to shut up, to stop discouraging transitioners, they're told they were "never really trans in the first place", or that their de-transition only gives christian fundamentalists hate fuel. De-transitioners often report losing all of their LGBTQ+ friends and even receive hate or death threats. So beautiful considering it comes from the same community that preaches that all love is love. Which it isn't.

I think our youth is too exposed to all this different ways of life. This kind of things where considered "taboo" Now it has been so normalized that it's confusing some of our youths. Also, we have to consider that families, peers, school, neighborhoods, experiencing any form of abuse, illnesses, war, natural disasters, etc. are environmental examples that can affect [not always] one emotional, social and psychological development. This is why we need to support our children, but also encourage them to wait and see if after puberty they are feeling the same way about themselves. 80 to 95% of kids who think they want to transition come to terms and accept/embrace their biological sex/gender by late adolescence (after puberty). We all got to admit that for most of us puberty was not a fun thing to go through. Puberty and teenage years are a very awkward time in life. This is why doing our best in creating a good and safe environment for our children is so important. By the way great video and thank you for sharing.

There is a difference between being transgender and wanting to look/wear women's clothing (by society's standards). People like Jeffree Star wears women clothing/hair/makeup and he's not trans. A lot of the new generation get the two mixed up. You can wear makeup or rock a wig without being trans.

It is difficult when you have a close friend who's transgender when you're...different, or in somewhat of an insecure state yourself. My best friend is transgender and I had a very difficult time when I was slightly younger because I was so influenced by what she was doing and how she was feeling and began applying it to myself because as an awkward and depressed 14 - 16 year old I hadn't exactly found myself yet, and I wondered if I was actually a transgender man because I had a strong tomboy phase back then. I'm just glad it died quickly before I told anyone about it because I don't know where I would be now otherwise. But it's definitely true that those around you can influence you even if they're not trying to. Simply watching them can be enough sometimes.

aaaand that's why doctors need to diagnose the actual gender dysphoria before having any right to prescribe hormones for someone. It's a solution for people with actual mental state of gender dysphoria, not just "aahhhh I love/am interested in things that are stereotypically not of my gender soooo I guess imma girl now" and this is also why trans activists should stop pushing their agenda on kids and teens, their bodies are not developed yet and hormones can harm them, and besides, almost every teen kinds hates their body at some point. Generally speaking, doctors are supposed to diagnose a patient with gender dysphoria first and then have them go through months of therapy before being allowed to transition. This is generally the ethical way of going about things. I wonder what the doctor was thinking. All of that said, most of the effects of hormones are reversible once you stop taking them, depending on how long you've been on them before. (P.S. I'm a med student planning on going into psychiatry or endocrinology)

Hermy Frances - I just wonder how many more people are going through this, the transitioning and de-transitioning... Kids are inherently impressionable and growing up on the Internet, they're surrounded by the "trans movement" I guess you could say. When I was a kid, I was a tomboy. I grew up with 2 brothers and I liked playing with mud instead of barbies. Having cuts, bruises & stitches from being rough (but also clumsy lol). I didn't like wearing dresses or getting dressed up. Nowadays, would I think of myself as Transgender ? I don't know. All I know is: I don't want kids, teenagers, or anyone in general to have to go through what the dude in the video went through...

On another note, I think gender roles and stereotypes play a big part in peoples insecurities. We constantly associate gender with the way people are and the things they do. Like saying "boys will be boys" or "girls are so emotional". Saying only girls can wear make up and only guys like sports. So when we constantly hear these things, and realize we don't live up to the standard of that gender, it makes us distressed and feel like we have to change ourselves, whether it's becoming transgender or stopping ourselves from certain behavior, or just saying "f you" to people who judge them. I'm glad you were able to come to the realization that you loved yourself the way you are. I know this isn't the case for most people, but I think if only people realized they could be themselves no matter what they looked like, they can take a step back and pick apart the things they actually want for themselves and what they only wanted in order to live up to society standards.

this is exactly how i feel. i am blessed to be (mostly) comfortable with the sex and gender i was assigned at birth, and i have huge respect for anyone willing to go through the painful process of transitioning. it's something i will never have to do and i cannot begin to imagine the pain one must feel before eventually having no choice but to succumb to it. but on the other hand, i do sort of feel like there are a lot of trans folks who go through with complete gender transitions who..idk...sort of feed into the whole gender binary? you shouldn't have to be a girl to feel valid wearing makeup. you shouldn't have to be a boy to decide you don't like wearing your hair long, or to decide you prefer wearing pants 24/7. gender is so fluid and everyone should just feel comfortable being whoever they want to be. and i know that first requires society to be okay with everyone being who they want to be. it sucks. but i so wish the world operated this way. i feel like a lot more people would be at peace with themselves without having to make such massive overhauls to their lives and lifestyles.

+astr323 I'm a transgender but I do not go beyond what I was born as physically. some might just say no you are bi, but I truly know how I feel inside and to what extent. I'm largely happier now embracing that part of me instead of fighting it. Though there is always a battle within myself to wanting to have been born female instead. Its very hard for me to explain it to others really. I am just happy I have some around me in real life that accept me the way I am. Because truthfully and not being negative here. Most male to female transformations still look too male-ish to me. And I do not wish to undergo all of that surgery to only find I'm a manly type of girl. As to me most end up looking. I think this is a big reason why we need to allow young boys to embrace more traditionally feminine things if they'd like to. If they grow up feeling unsure about their gender because they like traditionally feminine things, then they might go further into transition than what this person did, and really regret their choices. People just need to feel accepted no matter what. That requires other people to be accepting though, and unfortunately I believe the world still has a long way to go.

Transitioning isn't something you try and decide you don't like. Becoming trans isn't done via free trial. It just screams that he jumped on a sensation bandwagon and now that he's got some fame decided he doesn't need it anymore. If he was serious about exploring gender and identity, he wouldn't have come out as trans unless he truly felt that was 100% correct for him. It's also a trend that so many of these KZbin stars that all transitioned on KZbin are now detransing. It's a perfect example of how often people just jump on whatever label is trending at the time.

The number of children that are being referred to gender clinics is skyrocketing and it worries me because these children do not understand what it truly going to happen to them. If someone does not have gender dysphoria, they are NOT transgender. Being transgender in general is the state of having gender dysphoria. Jasmine Vasquez When children are referred to clinics this is accompanied with therapy and family counseling. Medication (mostly hormone blockers for prepubescent children) are not given as candy. Young adults over the age of 18 must also complete a certain number of therapy sessions before being referred to a physician for hormones, this is not an overnight process for a reason. Trans and gender non conforming folks come in all shapes and sizes, some may not ever want to get medication and this is absolutely taken in consideration. I am a therapist who works with LGBTQ teens/young adults who are often exploring their gender identity, and I see many youth who experiment with their identity and may change their mind only slightly. Gender is fluid and ever changing but in my experience if someone is unsure about the transitioning process the professionals working with the individual/family are aware of this and provide even more support. Like I said, it's not easy and overnight for a reason.

It is pretty scary to see, but it can be seen as a good thing. Actual trans people have easier access to hormones and society is less likely to judge them compared to even 20 years ago. But thanks to the sudden growth in popularity in the past 10 years, (usually) teens who feel the need to be unique and cool or are looking for answers end up turning to it as if it were a hobby or a cure. It's helping one problem, but starting another, which stinks. I think therapy would be a good answer to this, since a lot of detransitioners that I've seen have other issues (abuse, peer pressure, insecurities, etc) that should be addressed before rushing to a conclusion. It feels pretty harsh, but it might just be what the person needs and might help with cis people transitioning. Just an idea, that I'm commenting here for some reason

These comments have been refreshing. I am a woman who grew up with the feminist movement. I grew up completely understanding that how I dress, what I do with my life, whether I wear makeup, what my interests are, my sexuality, don't make me any less of a woman. That I don't need to wear a mini skirt and heels to qualify as a woman. I am a woman because I was born a woman and all women represent the diversity of women: girly, tomboy, straight, lesbian, mother, engineer. Since finding out about this transgender movement I have not been able to resolve the conflict. I have tried reading news, stories, watching videos. As soon as I try to relate to what that person is feeling they say "I've always liked makeup and feminine clothes" or "I never liked girly clothes and I always wanted to be muscular and be the 'man' in a relationship". Each time I am shocked that people don't realise that these have nothing to do with if you are a man or if you are a woman. I have never felt the social pressures that apparently others have, especially young people today. I am grateful that I feel like I can be any kind of woman I want, but I am surprised that others have such a different experience in today's modern world. It makes me wonder if we need to revive the feminist movement that supported me so much. Not just for women to embrace their diversity, for men too.

Yes, this is is very important. I'm FtM transgender and these stereotypes were actually what kept me in the closet for so long. Amy Those are good questions and I'll be happy to answer :) First of all I can only speak for myself and not every trans person. While we have a lot of experiences in common there are individual differences. Some have more dysphoria than others and in varying degrees about different body parts or social aspects like name, pronouns or clothing. Not everyone wants the same medical treatments either. Now we have that out of the way... It's similar to the experience of not being attracted to someone in that it's innate and you have no control over it. It's something that's hard to put into words before you get the vocabulary, you know. And even then it can't quite be explained to someone who doesn't experience it. But it's completely different in that instead of indifferent, uninterested or put off, I am deeply troubled, disgusted by, and anxious about my body. I am acutely aware of it 24/7 and being seen or heard by others makes it worse. Parts of it are totally fine, like my eyes, ears, hands, hair, belly etc. but every part or shape of it that is clearly female is more or less of a problem. It's caused a number of serious issues that have at times made my life pretty much just surviving day to day rather than living. Even after I found my own two feet (thanks to the kindness and support of others) and fixed a lot of problems in my life and finally felt I'm worth something and contribute to society my body would remain a source of constant discomfort. It is exhausting. For me gender roles don't mean all that much. Clothes are just pieces of cloth that for some reason have femininity or masculinity assigned to them. I was never hyper masculine but I do like more masculine things than I do feminine when it comes to expression. I just always felt more like a boy and wished I was a boy physically because of that truth in every fibre of my being. Now, people focus a lot on surgeries, but for me hormones are what I want first and foremost. They will help with the things that hurt me most - fat distribution, voice, strength, changing this name that isn't mine, not being seen as and called something I'm not etc. It is necessary if I want a chance to live properly. Top surgery is something I'll need too because I don't want to bind for the rest of my life. That would probably be more unsafe and radical than the operation, to my understanding. Hysterectomy may also be necessary because of an increased risk of cervical cancer when on testosterone. Bottom surgery for me is not something I currently feel is necessary as that external junk has never given me as much dysphoria as the rest. Those surgeries are also more invasive and risky. But if the dysphoria was the same as it is with my breasts? I might go for it. This is something people have committed suicide over, so it's not something just presenting with clothing can fix. As long as I look like this I can present as anything and still feel horrible and be read as female by others. Medical treatment is not guaranteed to resolve all these problems but more often than not it helps a great deal. I hope this answered your questions.

I'm a trans man (ftm) and honestly I think a lot of people who get caught up in being trans but aren't actually focus too much on gender roles and I wish as a society we gave people more freedom of expression. We had a long discussion about transitioning and common misconceptions about it. We talked about how therapy should be required for young people who want to start taking hormones. You can still go back, but it'll take more effort than prior. Start slowly, stop T, dress as a female (I'm assuming top surgery was all that was done, push up bras can be great!), grow her hair out, wear it in more feminine styles. It's entirely possible... Hardest thing will be the voice which won't go back, she'd need voice training...but it's totally possible. I know one thing that helped a friend is remembering some girls are flat or lose their chest, girls with pcos might be masculine looking but still girls. Cis girls aren't all super feminine.

He is actually bringing up a really good point here - we should all explore our gender and sexuality. Just because the thought might not have organically occurred, doesn't mean the idea isn't worth thinking about. So, he wasn't trans after all (no dysphoria, etc), but he explored and accepted his feminine side and he still feels like he's in the middle of the spectrum, not unequivocally male. I think we should all think about these things. I know many girls go through a "phase" where they wear boys' clothing - I sure did (and thought about if I might actually be a man, but dismissed the idea when I realised I just like to be able to accept my traditionally masculine qualities as well as my feminine ones and I felt able to do that more easily when I was dressed in drag. Now I no longer consider clothing gendered). I think a lot of boys go through this as well, but society won't accept men or (teenage) boys wearing skirts or dresses, or having long hair, or trying on makeup, so a lot of men completely shut themselves off to the idea that they could potentially be happier if they weren't confined to (toxic) masculinity. This video attempts to erase the stigma caused by toxic masculinity around the issue. Although I gotta say that some of his remarks seem kinda shady. Maybe he doesn't fully understand the harm his comments about feeling pressured to transition could do. Then again, that is all a part of this story.

No need to be rude or call names here. I disagree with you on this. Exploring your identity or personality is a good thing, and the thought doesn't have to occur organically. Obviously I don't mean your analogy there, I mean introspection in a way that's asking "is ____ a quality in me that I'm suppressing/exaggerating" or "should I get rid of this kind of thinking patterns" or "is my behaviour hurting myself or others" or "should I work towards this goal or adjust it" or, what is in question here, "am I conforming to society's view of me and my gender, am I comfortable with the gender I was assigned with at birth". Introspection is good for you, and is where intrapersonal intelligence stems from. Intrapersonally intelligent people are aware of and in touch with their emotions, motivations, beliefs and goals. That's because they've asked themselves these kind of questions and come up with answers that satisfy them (those answers, btw, can sometimes just be "IDK or "IDC""). You should explore your identity because it's good for you, even if you didn't come up with the idea yourself or feel the need to explore it -- you should do it because it helps you to know yourself better and to know your strengths and limits. It improves you, helps you become a better, more comfortable you, not threatened by the idea of your identity not being exactly what you thought it was.

This is why schools shouldn’t make gender referring a code of conduct, they’re far too young to understand. I dressed as the opposite gender during primary school and most of high school but I came out of it. I never referred to myself as the opposite gender but I always wanted to be... but I grew up. This is when there were camp kids / tomboys. Now people feel the need to let young impressionable children change their gender so young. You wouldn’t give a child any other responsibility that big. It took me realistically until I was about 18 to dress and act more like my own gender. And that was because I wanted to. People don’t want to accept that this gender confusion can’t ever actually just be a confusion. Often it can be. But now kids have more chance of being swayed because of rules. I know for many, they don’t grow out of it but it’s just a shame. Are tomboys now going to be called boys?

Jay Sorry but I fail to see the relevance of your comment in regard to mine? But I gotta say that I see no harm in tomboys being thought of as boys, if they want that, and even if they later change their minds. Gender can be fluid and on a spectrum, we're just used to looking at it through this lense of cultural binary. Also, what peoplr don't seem to understand that not everyone chooses to transition (have "the surgery", which is a problematic term, and what most people seem to assume is the end-all-be-all of transition, or even the only aspect of it), and that all transitions are different. It can just be deciding to wear different clothes and changing your name. It doesn't even have to be that. It could be wearing whatever, not changing your body at all, but using different pronouns. When talking about young kids deciding these kinds of things, people don't realise that a child's transition isn't hormones and surgery. Kids can be given a kind of hormonal suppressant (not sure of the real term) when they are about to start puberty. What that does is delay puberty until older age, so if the individual is still sure they want to transition, they can start taking hormones. If not, they can just go off those suppressants and have their "normal" puberty, just late. If this option is not available to kids who truly need or want to transition, they're forced to go through with the puberty that aligns with their gender assigned at birth, which causes permanent structural features that do not align with their true gender, that just can't be undone, that can cause tremendous dysphoria. Even the ones that can be dealt with later (like laser facial hair removal or facial feminisation surgery for trans women or top surgery for trans men, for example) take a long time, during which dysphoria can wreak havoc, and can have long recovery periods. Plus they cost a lot of money. I just don't see the point denying people, strangers, the freedom of choice -- unless being uncomfortable with societal change or being questioned on ones views counts as a valid point.
