Yes, I do. Using my Philips 279M1RV 4K with MacBook Pro 2021 running 120HZ though USB-C with 65 watt charging, with only single cable. Much less eye strain with long hours (10+) coding and productivity tasks. Plus some gaming on the side with Xbox. Philips monitor is generally elegant design, without gaming aesthetic. It’s the best of both world, gaming + productivity, and color correct at the same time. Looks like Eve spectrum 4K and Philips 279M1RV using the same LG Nano IPS panel.

I have a MSI 27 144hz inch gaming monitor. It’s an absolute game changer for my work laptop. Work laptop is fixed at 60hz plus the obvious 14 inch screen makes it more difficult to work with multiple desktops. With the high refresh rate monitor, things get smooth and exciting to work. One thing i have noticed is some laptops can’t push 144hz and my work laptop is set t 120hz monitor output where as my gaming laptop can output 144hz easy.

I tried a high refresh rate monitor at the shop a couple weeks ago, and it's a game changer. It really feels different and so smooth. The main issue seems to be that if you want cooler accuracy you should buy the 60hz ones, and if you want high refresh rate the 90/144 ones. It's kind of a big dilemma, I don't know if I've seen a decent monitor with a decent price that has both. But the Eve with 1440p sounds like a good deal thanks for the tip!

I find that when I edit audio in Adobe Audition for my voice overs, using my ASUS VG279Q 144Hz monitor with my M1 Pro makes micro adjustments easier to make and I respond to them slightly faster. The smoothness makes me feel in more control and thus more confident in my movements. This is essentially the same advantage that you get in gaming, but for work. High refresh rate isn't just for games and I don't think anyone who says so has really used one or work in just text editing. This is also useful for video editing and the high refresh rates makes one slightly faster at these smaller movements that add up tremendously over time. I keep my M1 Pro 14-inch on my desk and the Asus high-up. The difference in sharpness is of no issue to me, the monitor's colours are some of the best among gaming monitors (good enough for some colour work) and I'd much rather have high refresh rate vs high resolution. High refresh rate is much more noticeable in usage than high resolution.

@FoxxFire2 жыл бұрын
After using promotion on the iPad and iPhone, I agree that refresh rate is much more important than many Mac users, myself included, have understood. I just hadn't experienced it before. But using a 4k panel with a Mac isn't an optimal experience due to what needs to happen to scale the content to an acceptable size. And 2.5k just isn't sharp enough for me. And so for me personally, I'm waiting for a high refresh, 5k monitor from Apple, if those rumors do indeed come true. And paying more for a monitor is a good investment, IMO. For example, the only reason I still use my late 2015 5k iMac is that I don't want to part with the display, nor do i want to buy a studio display with similar specs -- it just seems like a waste to spend that much for a display that I basically already have with my iMac. So essentially, even though my computer itself is out of date and I want to upgrade, I'm stuck because the monitor option I really want, a high refresh, 5k, Apple-made monitor, just isn't here yet. I know it'll be pricey when it comes, but it'll be worth it. Most of us keep our displays and TVs far longer than we keep other tech. So an argument can be made that overspending on a monitor to kind of future proof yourself is smarter than doing the same with a computer. Anyway, this was an enjoyable, informative video. But i'm still on the lookout for the perfect monitor for a Mac. When that comes, then I will buy a new computer to go along with it.
@CreatedTech2 жыл бұрын
A 5K and 120Hz monitor would be awesome, but the problem is the amount of data that needs to be transmitted is astronomical. In this video I was doing 4K 144Hz and that is already over 40GB/s, which is about the maximum the thunderbolt ports on the MacBook can output. I think a display like that might be quite a few more years, unless Apple can figure something out.

Apple sucks on scaling because they are always different 💅🏾 so when you get a 4K a 27 is great but we need to be careful because of the density, there is a video about that by a professional graphic developer about that and why he switch from tru 4K to 1440p

I've been using a 3 monitor setup since 2014. They were all 24in 1080p. I just replaced the center screen with a 27in 1440p 165hz IPS screen, and now I'm so tempted to replace the other two screens as well. Just not sure if they would fit....

@@V100X I love virtual desktops, but splitting my screens in half I have: my development notes, a web browser for misc queries, my code editor, the app I'm working on, a SQL tool and a GraphQL tool. And it's really kinda useful to be able to see all of those things at the same time.

how's your experience with 4K then with a macbook? I'm currently using a 1440p monitor (samsung odyssey g7) but consider upgrading to the eve spectrum, mainly cause fond isn't that crisp. It still won't be retina quality though and I wonder if it's worth the upgrade.
@CreatedTech2 жыл бұрын
4K is a big upgrade if you're coming from 1440p. Depends on the monitor size though. 27" is noticeable but not game-changing, 32" is a huge difference. Font is much nicer on 4K, even with macOS scaling issues. Beware of the Eve Spectrum though, I've heard a LOT of horror stories around this product. Many people not receiving their orders etc. Check out the reviews for "Dough" (EVE has rebranded to a new name).

@@CreatedTech ok, thanks for your reply! I got the 27” version so yeah. I now consider getting the G70a, so the newer G7. Cause cheaper and yea I know of the issues of the EVE. It’s sad cause it ticks all boxes with usb c for my MacBook, for instance.

Sorry everyone, but I’m confused. I’ve watched this video several times and was almost ready to pull the trigger on a new gaming monitor. I currently have a 2020 13” M1 MacBook Pro & I’m thinking of adding a base model Mac Studio to my home setup. I chatted with Apple today & they tell me neither my M1 MBP or a new MS will support 144Hz refresh rate. Apple tells me only 60Hz. I asked the guy twice and he still said “no dice on anything above 60Hz”. What am I missing?

I keep going to the Eve page to purchase, but then sigh and X out of the tab. They're just so unreliable, what if there are issues? Their support is non-existent. Is there warranty? So much risk involved. As a fellow Australian I would love to hear your experience with ordering from this company... P.S. Did yours come with an Australian power cable? The only option at checkout for me is "US Power Adapter"
@CreatedTech2 жыл бұрын
I heard the stories, but I didn't have any issues. Shipping was delayed by a few months due to supply shortages though. I also contacted support to cancel a pre-order for another monitor and they resolved it within 5 minutes. And yes it came with an AU plug. I would buy it on a credit card so you can do a charge-back worst case scenario.

You advice everyone to get a high refresh rate low bit depth, with terrible accuracy monitor for a mac? To see the cursor move smoothly? People that use mac's are not gamers but mostly creatives, and accuracy and bit depth is more important.

I just bought a Gigabyte M27Q 27" 2k 165hz, but the only refresh rate option in macOS is 60hz! I didn't buy it specifically for the macbook, but for my gaming pc, but since I have the macbook for work at the same desk I thought I could use it too, but I don't find a way to change it... Late to comment, but I use a 144Hz 1080p monitor for my PC and also use it to extend/mirror my work MacBook Pro. Only downside I find is that I use DisplayPort from the PC to the monitor, as well as from the MacBook - meaning I need to swap the cable every time I change device. Not a huge issue, I just worry about the wear on the port on the monitor. I've tried using a USB C to HDMI instead of the USB C to DP from the MacBook - and the HDMI looks really washed out colour-wise compared to the DP cable. Looking online, I see others have the opposite, which is odd. I think it's something to do with the YCbCr instead of RGB... can't go fiddling with the work Mac though 🙈
