Hello, Thank you for your knowledge and information. What BenQ curved ultra wide or 34" Monitor would you recommend for Photography & Video editing. Final Cut \ Lightroom \ Photoshop and will be doing some custom printing in the near future. I really like the simplicity of the benQ and how it works with Mac's. I'm waiting to get my Mac Studio M2 shortly and want to pair it up width a monitor that goes well with it. I do enjoy the curved monitors and any input and recommendation would really be helpful. Thank you in advance - Mathew

Hi Colin, I am also upgrading my system and looking at a Mac mini M2 pro. Now in the past I’ve generally maxed out the ram on my Mac, but this will be my first Silicon Mac and I’ve been told you don’t need lots of ram, should I get the Mini with 32gb of ram or will 16 suffice, what do you think? I am also considering a BenQ PD3205UA with Ergo Arm. I am a graphic designer and Photographer.
@photoshopcafe
@photoshopcafe Жыл бұрын
Yikes who told you that you don’t need as much memory? Don’t answer. It’s not ram, but shared memory, so it’s used as ram and video memory. If anything you want more :) having said that, a lot of people over estimate how much they need. Are you running multiple applications at the same time? Working on large documents? Rendering UHD+ videos? These are powerful machines, but don’t skimp on the memory, I’d get the 32 if I were you

Hi and thank you for all your knowledge and information. I really do Like BenQ and the ease of use with my MacStudio M2. I need to upgrade my old PD Series to be on point with my new MacStudio. I have grown to like curved ultra wide monitors. What are your thoughts on if I were to upgrade to the - BenQ 37.5 inch IPS Curved Ultra-wide Monitor | EW3880R. It's above what I'm comfortable paying but for curved I'm not sure what other option to go with. My other option is the BenQ PD3420Q DesignVue Designer 34" 21:9 HDR IPS Monitor. I mainly Shoot & Edit Photo's & Video for Events \ Weddings \ Portraits and do custom photo printing. Appreciate your input on this. Thank you in advance - Mathew

Very helpful info, thanks. I am replacing my monitor for use with Windows. I am primarily processing landscape photos for display and print. Since I don't need the ergo arm, I imagine PD2705Q is a better choice(?). Thanks for all of your ongoing great content!

No adobe 98? How is it for photo editing and printing?
@3polygons

As he mentions, for that you should go for the SW series, better than the PD series. This PD monitor is similar in color gamut to macbook pros and many mobile devices of high range, supports DCI-P3, that's usually better than sRGB (99% sRGB he mentioned, though, pretty good for depending what purpose). I do work for print output (illustration, not photography), and that's why I totally need Adobe RGB color support, those colors will be printable, so you want to be able to see them ;). The thing is, you don't have to go to the SW 32 inches one... This is a particular thing of my own, a personal opinion as an illustrator/designer, but I prefer any day a color accurate (this monitor seems to be *very* accurate, just a smaller color range) supporting Adobe RGB, rather a than choosing a 4k (this one is 4k) sRGB or P3 only. *BUT* ...! This monitor is amazing for what he's recommending it for... it is great for youtube content creators (and some video editing, etc). Also good when you have already your Eizo ColorEdge CS2420 or Benq SW 240 (my two favorite brands and models in price/capabilities) as a *main* monitor, the one providing you with all the range and fidelity, then use this one as a side monitor, as can be put vertical for references (super useful for illustration), or even just read long documents, also the included arm is great. A 2nd monitor, I don't often need it to be as wide gamut as the main, it's of course nice, but *if* it is for references non color-critical, or just having extra apps' panels there, docs, a browser, etc, DCI-P3 is totally fine. Even if just 97% sRGB. To me it's useful (I have a NEC, around 100% sRGB) , and it's good for me to ensure the screen output as a sRGB file looks fine in less color rich monitors than an Eizo, screens that really can't display anything outside the sRGB range. Good to avoid surprises. Which is gonna be your client's kind of display, in most cases checking the image at best in an iphone or macbook, so, around P3 gamut. When not even checking your work in a pc laptop with 45% sRGB , ouch. :D (in all honesty, most _modern_ mid-high PC laptops now are around 100% sRGB. But most with poor calibration, bad uniformity, backlight leaks, low contrast ratio, etc).

That said, what monitor do you use?
@3polygons
@3polygons Жыл бұрын
@@drwatsonismine You are welcome :) .Currently and since some years, I have an Eizo ColorEdge CS 2420 (1920 x 1200, Adobe RGB, calibrated with Calibrite (actually an old i1 Display Pro, now "renamed") every now and then), and I use for checking references on the side a NEC SpectraView 231, and I use from time to time a display-tablet, the Huion Kamvas 22 (a cheap one, it's like a Wacom Cintiq poor cousin), to paint directly on screen, but I kind of prefer to simply paint on my Wacom Intuos XL (classic, non screen based drawing tablet, as I have hand-screen coordination, no issues), and using a much higher quality display for the illustrations I work on, that is, I prefer a classic Wacom tablet + seeing the illustration I work on in the Eizo, as it is hugely richer color (than Huion's screens) and more accurate. Again, I am an illustrator, my needs and requirements are totally different to a photographer's, which are mostly the audience in this channel (I suspect). Eizo is my favorite monitors brand, but I love the price/quality ratio on Benq a lot. If I hadn't the Eizo , price-wise I totally would go for a Benq SW 240. But this is because my workflow does not really need higher screen resolution than 1200p or 1080p (for now). Even if my print files I work on are usually 5k x 5k, or 20k x 12k pixels, etc. As, well, one can paint in zoomed out (and zoom in for details) these days, without problems in most professional painting software out there.

Hallo, I own the previous model, called PD2700U. I was happy with it, but now the Lcd panel needs to be replaced because it shows false colors in the borders of the screen; still useable, but disappointing, considering that the life of this panel should be over 30k hours and mine probably worked for about 10k hours only. The replacement of the panel costs more than the monitor itself. I won’t buy another BenQ monitor.

It looks good, but a monitor with only 4k in 2023 is a hard sell if you are doing any type of video editing.
@vladibarraza
@vladibarraza Жыл бұрын
You can't distinguish pixels with 4k at a reasonable viewing distance. More important for video editing is colour spectrum and calibration. Maybe in the future, with more 5k and 6k monitors in the market, 4k will no longer be an option.
