It still blows my minds that the only real way to get twitch to take notice of issues regarding bans is not their appeals portal but kicking up a fuss on social media like twitter etc... such a stupid system.

I get this. I worked with someone who was from a part of France close to the German borders and spoke both languages perfectly. They also spoke English well and I asked them how their brain works when talking in different languages. They said that they were now able to think clearly in the language they were speaking and there was no conscious translation going on in their brain. Every now and then they dreamt in English and/or German and it was always a nice surprise. Fascinating stuff going on in our brains! 🧠😁

Hi Alana, I think your videos have become popular because of your positive personality. There is so much negativity around and its so nice to see something that will put a smile on our faces. Even when things are not so good, "what you going to do about it", kind of sums it up and well, you just have to get on with it! As you point out life has its ups and downs and if this was a "my life is better than yours" channel, I would not watch and subscribe. I have no idea how you think of all the video subjects/titles and appreciate the effort that you put in, keep doing it. If you need a rest every now and then, just do it, its your channel! We're just visiting

I first came across the banned word beginning with F when I was at school when I ate them. It was not until 30 years later that I found that the word had been used for another purpose by other people hundreds of years ago. There are only so many possible words and often they are used for two unrelated purposes. It is unreasonable to assume all uses of a word mean the same thing. There is a video entitled "Professor Under Fire for Using Chinese Word Resembling Racial Slur" by "NowThis". This video explains how a professor of Chinese in California was fired for using the N word three times in rapid succession in a lecture. In Mandarin this means "This, This, This" and is commonly used to show a shop keeper what you want in China.

Hi Alanna, I love watching your videos because you come across as so upbeat and positive. Of course nobody can be like that 100% of the time but it is a very positive experience for me to feed off your positivity: I hope that doesn't sound creepy! I don't mean it to be so. You mentioned your Grandmother (or was it Great Grandmother) from Aberdeen and it occurs to me that some family history research in the UK could perhaps provide you with some fascinating insights in to your own background but also maybe some brand new leads for videos. I am British borne and bred though I have lived the expat life in several other countries and a few years ago I explored my own family history. Disappointing to discover nobody rich or famous but very interesting to find out the extent to which people moved from one place to another in many parts of England and Scotland. Yes I did listen to your account of how busy your life is and how organised you already have to be to fit everything in so my suggestion is probably going to be impractical for you but perhaps even a brief look online via say Ancestry could provide you with some interesting leads.

It is so infuriating when the computer says no and takes offence at a perfectly harmless word. That word also means a bundle of firewood sticks. I had a problem on Facebook when referring to a company called J.A. Prestwich by its initials. That was also labelled hate speech.

Hey Alanna, great video and I do love a nice Q+A. It's so bad how destructive places like Twitch can be to your work and income. All because their first line of defense is a dumb algorithm that acts as judge, jury and executioner, even when your innocent. The algorithm should highlight videos for humans to view, not take action themselves. Glad you got through it okay without too much loss.

Thanks for fronting up to the questions Alanna and coming up with another great video. The Twitch issue would be a laugh if it wasn't so totally absurd, and the timing of them actually rescinding the ban was so unintentionally priceless - I'm not sure I could have stayed so cool. Sort of a tangent to the Q&A idea I guess would be to do another of your great You Tube 'comments' - anything planned?

Devon is a nice place, Parts of Exeter are lovely, avoid Torquay town centre(peripheral areas are pleasant however). Totnes and Topsham probably the most picturesque as is Dartmouth but that town is a bugger to get to and find parking especially in the summer. Dartmoor is also worth a visit but I would visit in September once the kids go back. Travelling in Devon from end of July and August is a nightmare.

Thanks for doing these videos. In the very early days of the internet I had trouble using the town name of Scunthorpe, similar to your twitch misunderstanding, because it contains a vulgar word. The Twitch ban is exactly what happened to a bunch of us on Facebook who were discussing the 'food that shall not be named' on a private group. We were discussing traditional foods we all grew up with and the 'food that shall not be named' came up and lots of people were chiming in with comments about either liking or hating it. Anyway the whole group got banned because the people who run these sites are idiots. Took weeks to get it all sorted out. 😬

This phenomena is well known in IT and new media industry, particularly in the UK, yet it persists. It even has a name which I won't use lest I tempt fate, based on the name of town in North Lincolnshire. I have experienced a variation of this issue personally. Look at my surname above, that is my real surname, look it up in telephone book if you don't believe me. There is a world famous scientist with the same surname. Yet, I've been banned at registration, had emails blocked, and even now still get abuse because of it.

I've seen someone openly credit you for an idea they used to make a video once (I think they even linked to your video). Hi Alanna, I’ve been watching & enjoying your KZbin videos for a few years now. You are a lively & engaging kind of person, and despite the rather large age gap I do find it very interesting to glimpse some of your ups and downs (unfortunately we all have those). Obviously I have no knowledge of your personal circumstances other than what you choose to talk about here, so certainly had no knowledge before about the recent difficulty you had with another platform. I’m British, by the way, and have always had an interest in people from other countries and cultures, indeed I have lived/worked in many (something like 11 or 12) widely varied countries around the world over the past 50 years - yes, quite a lot! - and have mostly enjoyed the experiences (& friendships) in all of them, now I am married to someone from one of those countries, although we met in the UK. He (for it is a he) is from a country which does not permit dual nationality, so for now he has not applied for British citizenship because that would mean renouncing his birth nationality, which he is understandably reluctant to do for personal & family (his) reasons, although he does now have permanent residency (‘right to remain’) status in the UK, of course as you rightly mention it was a costly & lengthy process to achieve ‘right to remain’ and the final step to British citizenship would be relatively straightforward with not too much additional cost (compared to what it has already cost, at least 😉), should he ever decide to do it. One of the pleasures of hearing about your exploits is that one never knows what will be next on your agenda, but they mostly elicit a smile. Good luck with what you do.

Very interesting video :) You want to visit Cambridge??, why?. I now live just outside it and don't want to visit it lol, London prices on Cambridge wages. Have you considered Norwich and the Norfolk broads for a visit?.

it would be nice to see you go back to Aberdeen. Are you able to find out where your Great Grandma lived in Aberdeen? Her street address et cetera. You could do a video going to the place where she grew up. You could walk the streets she would have walked along and probably the school or shopping area she would have used. Maybe look at the newspapers of the time and see what was going on when she lived there. In a sense, touch aspects of her life. A relative of ours in the 1800s was serving in the 47 foot of the British army; he passed through Malta on his way to Canada. I presume he was possibly going to have a fight with the French which as you know is a popular British pastime. My brother was doing some family history and incredibly found that our ancestor's wife was Maltese but was buried in a cemetery 100 yards away from where my brother lived. I sometimes think there is some genetic memory within families because we tend to gravitate to areas where our ancestors came from without knowing that they came from there. I didn't know that I had Maltese ancestry from the 1800s, I could have looked up the family and popped round for a cup of tea when we were in Malta several years ago LOL. if you don't mind me asking, does your anxiety express itself in some forms of agoraphobia and this is the reason why you prefer to do less outdoor videos? There are lots of interesting areas in the area that you live that would not be hard for you to reach as a day out. These could add two your video options. Yes, get yourself up to the Lake District and definitely the Peak District. You will enjoy the peace and quiet provided you avoid staying in the main centres. You'll be able to do lovely walks using the walking guides that will take you to very beautiful areas. Get yourself the walking guidebook by Wainwright who mapped the Lake District in his lifetime. I could imagine that you would fall in love with the Lake District and want to move there. I wouldn't bother with Manchester, stay on the train and go straight past to the Lake District or Peak District LOL. Yes, I do know Manchester.

The word is also used to refer to a bundle of sticks. It is in dictionaries. The word is even used in Tolkien's Lord of Rings. There should be a class-action lawsuit.

I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. They held their hands up. They should offer you compensation. It is not about the amount, but the principle. I would chase them for it, if you haven't already. You did nothing wrong. Why should you be out of pocket?

Perhaps you can answer at another time- but what drove you on to stay when you were at the nadir of your first visit - the clocks had gone back and it was getting dark too soon, winter was on its way, you were struggling with two taps and strange people and customs - what made you push on regardless instead of packing your suitcase and saying "I don't need to suffer all this, i'm done" ? Years ago there was a pop group called The Beatles, on being told they were going to the USA, member George Harrison said "what do they want us for, they have everything they need right there"

No excuse for not going to Cambridge, it's too easy. Change at St Pancras and either train from St Pancras on a different platform or King's Cross next door. For a celestial experience, look out for events performed by the Cambridge King's College Choir. They have no concerts planned in their calendar, but when they do it'll be worth getting on the train just for that, and if they ever perform Dvojak Mass in D, cancel everything else and go experience it. Other YouTubists you should link up with for a cider/beer? JJ Extra, Josh and Jason. They're doing a whole series of travel type videos, which include a lot on towns on the North Kent coast

Edinburgh is a beautiful city. If you ever go back you must go to Rose Street, it's a 1 mile pub crawl. 1 pint in each pub 😹 My favourite beer was in the Rose Street brewery, Auld Reekie 90 shillings. Lunch of Haggis, nears and tatties in Filthy McNasties. Great day out

Yes, Alanna, sometimes you just need these things to have some common sense. I belong to a keto youtube community where even just listing one the macro nutrients (you know, carbohydrates, protein) the one beginning with 'f' gets folk banned from the comments when we're talking nutrition
