why im deleting my 30gb mod folder

me rambling about why im deleting and starting over my 30 gbs mods folder! i have a lot of thoughts about my sims and why im doing certain stuff so i recorded it and here i am uploading it. this is kind of just a bonus video honestly.
i also mention working on a save file... lets see how long that idea lasts!!

Just checked & my mods folder is 82.7gb, which is way smaller than the folders of some of my friends. It takes my game about 5 minutes to load in all the way as well. I’ve been wanting to clean it out but I don’t think I could ever delete & start fresh 😅

5 minutes isn’t too bad for that much cc!!! cleaning it out is always nice though. i get why people feel like they cannot delete and start over, i’ve totally felt like that at times. but i also think it’s easier than sorting or cleaning out the old one- and i’m lazy lol

oof the pain! i thought about just shif+deleting everything two months ago, but decided not to. A lot of the stuff i have are from creators that left and deleted everything, and I'd have to hunt down stuff later, which would be more work. So yeah, i just downloaded sims 4 mod manager and tried my best to organise it, and i set the goal of not playing until i finished doing this. Now i'm at 23gb from 50gb lol my game loads soooo much faster now. I'm super happy with it but there's still a lot of stuff I'll never use just sitting there 🥲 anyways, lovely finding your channel! your art is super cool too, love the pink/orange color palette! 😊

I defintly still saved a version of my old cc folder because i have stuff thats perma gone like that too. cutting your mods folder in half is a win though!! youre braver than me I have a horrific time organizing my existing folder... and to not play until youre finished with it!! i cannot!! It's crazy how much faster it loads. i bet you have a similar experience too. and thank you!! thats very sweet!!

Wow! I am having a similar experience currently creating a save file out of a household I fell in love with in 2021. Almost done and a lot of work 😅 Started a new world where I changed all of the town names in sims studio, and wiped all of the neighborhoods. I add my sims, but also download other peoples sims and give them makeovers to prevent same face syndrome. I also do a lot of writing and planning with lots and make some areas poorer and in a specific style. As well as a focus for this first generation of teens like a high school experience so I have a yearbook. I put everything in a notion called the perfect sims game 😂 I give everyone stories and lore, so discovering your channel was very nice 🫶🏻

I have a question, how did you organize your cc and mods etc?, whenever, im afraid to do it because what if none of my stuff works anymore

The only thing that can’t be in too many folders in script mods so i leave those directly in my mods folder!! but everything else i made folders based on category and numbered it to group certain sections together - as shown in this video!! everything else is seperated in those folders by creator! i don’t go too detailed with it personally

every update i upload the game without my mods just to make sure everything is ok. the game uploads in lightning speed. So mods definitely affects your game BUT I noticed that when your mods are not updated that does affect the game upload. Also consolidating your mods folder works but its hell for update purposes. but for certain mods I refuse to consolidate because it makes it annoying to update. my last mod folder update took me a week 😂😂

well obviously it’s the mods as demonstrated in the video! lol. the glitches however… majority of mine aren’t mods related and more old save related. :( sometimes it’s mods but i stay pretty on top of those usually. whenever i play in a newer save i have wayyy less issues it’s such a bummer!! yeah consolidating is good but if you every want to charge sims / builds with cc it’s a pain… or with updating like you said .

i just deleted my mods folder too to clean them since my laptop it’s not that powerful haha it’s kinda awful that we need a lot of mods for a better gameplay in this game

When you say "old save" can you counter that by using "save as" instead of overwriting the current one? Thank you for your videos! Currently binging them all 💛

omg thank you, im glad you are enjoying them! sadly the save as doesn’t work because it’s (i think) about the amount of stuff the game is simulating and only a complete new game resets that, otherwise it’s just adding more.

can i ask how your game broke + what broke it? i wasnt able to play for like 3 months since whenever i tried to open the game it just didn't open 😭😭i thought some of the CC i had was corrupted and was preventing it from opening properly but im not sure ??

this is long winded bc tbh it was a weird situation!! So my game broke back when Discover University came out. I really don’t know exactly what broke my game- but overall it was just acting weird. University housing would fail to load, fail to save, build mode would be like… a halfway between build and live?? it was so odd. I really think my game somehow half updated and broke itself. BUT also that i was experiencing several glitches with discover university- which was super buggy on release. i was using Origin offline the day before the DU release intentionally to not update before i needed to for the pack (esp bc i wanted modders to update stuff.) origin out itself back online and started auto installing the update, but i was launching the game already. game pulled up and the update stopped but then my game was clearly not right. i was playing without my mods folder in and those problems persisted until i repaired my game- which helped! but then when i was playing DU i had problems with save files corrupting and failing to load/save for seemingly no reason but always from student housing lots. at that point i got really frustrated and literally uninstalled & reinstalled my game. kept all my saves and tray files and stuff… but the saves i cared about (including backups) would just fail to load randomly. i got to play a bit but when the issues persisted i stopped trying to play the game for like 7 months because i was too frustrated

does your game launch with no mods folder? these are the obvious things but try without and then if it’s the mods try 50/50ing your mods! (take out half the files and try to launch and if it launches you know it’s in the other half… then you try half of that half until you get down to hopefully one piece of cc) otherwise other simple answers… repair your game, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling but that’s a hassle bc you gotta backup all your files.

@@silleepigeon yeah, the game works when i have mods disabled. and i've tried repairing it + reinstalling it but it still refuses to open when i enable my mods folder 🙃🙃 i'll try ur suggestion of launching parts of my mods folder at a time, though. thank you!!

@@nevershutupagain yeah it’s def something in your mods folder than. try only parts at a time or taking out any script mods as those are almost guaranteed to be the problem

I timed my launch time a few weeks ago and it takes my old little laptop about 1.5 hours to launch the game 😭 i refuse to delete any of my 25gb of mods tho cause i literally use all of them

@@silleepigeon I use mostly maxis match, but some stuff that's in between. But i did end up taking all my clothing and accessory cc out of my game after posting this comment and my load time dropped to around 30 minutes!

Use stacys mod for better exceptions it lets you scan broken mods or cc that might interfere or slow your game

I have 70.8 GB of cc but when i had 109.3 GB it took my sims game like 1 minute too load and it was laggy were as for me 70.8 GB takes maybe like a couple seconds i think it also has to do with the pc too tho i just got a new pc my old one i had to sit there for like 5 minutes straight
