I don't think it's too much different than it ever was. I used to buy so many gaming magazines, and it was always the same with journalists being bought, early access sessions for journalists, people bitching and moaning, twisting games to suit their own agenda and being generally melodramatic and polarising. It's more intense given how much easier it is to immerse yourself in the gaming community and for everybody to have a voice, but it's always been like this. "The SNES is for kids, Mega Drive is for the cool people" "As if you've got a Sega Saturn when the Playstation is out", I'm sure it was the same for Atari, Commodore and Spectrum too. It's just the way people are, desperate to feel they've made 'the right choice' so they shit on the other options to feel better. As for Veilguard, I'll be buying it because I've loved every Dragon Age game I've played, so the series has earned my trust. If it disappoints, I'll reconsider for next time. The greatest review is the previous game, after all.

Veilguard looks like a game made for people on Diddy's list.

Morrigan transforms into ravens, bears and giant spiders. It is ludicrous that anyone would risk a painful, life-threatening surgery to mutilate your own breasts when you can take a trip to Trevinter or Rivain where a mage can use magic to transform your body to however you want it to appear. Top scars do not belong in Thedas. I have always had head-canon that the reason Isabella looks so different in Dragon Age: Origins is because she was smuggling slaves in Fereldan, so she used a glamer spell to conceal her true face. I probably will not play Dragon Age: Veilguard because of the egregious disrespect for Ferelden, Kirkwall/The Free Marches, and Orlais that these Veilguard producers have written into Veilguard for all of the previous Dragon Age games. ...CABBAGE!

imagine living in a fantasy world with magic and creations magic and you have "top scars" from having your fun bags chopped off.. its just cringe self insertion of the writer and modern day "issues" with no finesse to make it fit in the world from staff who can't write.

This is the New Saints Row for Dragon Age. Just play the good one.

what you have to understand is all the top reviews are payed for by the game, which i don't trust, i will instead wait this out a bit, just like i did with starfield, i didn't purchase that game i gave it 6 months for ppl to come out with how they thought of the game, and i also watched many diffrent streams of the game and saw the flaws for myself and all it's baked in issues, and i made my choice, it's not the game for me, maybe when they fix it up a bit, and they have but it's still not there for me, i'm afraid for that game at least, it's going to be roughly 6 years from now that it will eventually become good, but right now it's not a good game. anyway i use this same method with a lot of other games as well.

Skillups review pointed out the deficiences without going into the dei and the game is just bad on several levels.

People fighting over the "Gender" stuff in the game are completely missing the point as to why this game is bad. It has NOTHING to do with the LGBTQ+ representation - most dragon age games have had some sort of non-binary looking characters or the ability to have same-sex relationships... this is nothing new. The only problem is that this has become the main "interesting" point of the characters - they have absolutely no depth behond "i'm the non binary one", "I'm the quirky one uWu", "I'm the funny but factual one" etc.. The lore of the game itself could also be interesting, the issue is that the characters and the story is written so darn dog shit that none of it is enjoyable - it has no relatibility, no fluidity and no purpose. Why would I play an RPG game when the "RP" part is missing? Some people are also complaining about the artistic style of the characters/world, but that part I actually don't mind - I think it's well made - but I also agree that it doesn't look like what I would expect from a Dragon Age game. If this was a stand alone game called "Rook and pals adventures", there would be no drama around the game.

"most dragon age games have had some sort of non-binary looking characters" No, they had gay people, simply as that. The characters were clearly designed. Stop dumping gay people into the same basket as the "non binary" as that's incredibly disrespectful. It's already disrespectful to actual trans people, but you also need to drag gay people in as well.

"If this was a stand alone game called "Rook and pals adventures", there would be no drama around the game." And absolutely nobody would've picked it up, and the "drama" would be us mocking it for it, like we did with Concord and Dustborn.

Thanks for making my point of fighting over the gender stuff instead of any actual useful critcism of the game.

@Binteh if you haven't played it, how can you possibly comment on the story? Are you basing your analysis on clips, or edited biased narratives created by others - as Col highlights in this video?

@@LegendofLawes huh.... who says I havent played it? I've played it - and gave up at around the 20 hour mark because I got bored of the dialogue and the repeat fights. I wouldn't be giving my opinion if I hadn't played it...
