Rebels. Society has had an obsession with them throughout history. Whether it’s a character in a movie, a historical figure, or a modern-day entrepreneur, most of us are fascinated by those who refuse to conform.
Chances are, many of these people are the Myers-Briggs type INTJ, known as ‘The Architect’ or ‘The Mastermind.’ Logical and strategic in how they approach the world, INTJs have high expectations for themselves and rarely feel the need to fit in.
Today on Charisma we’re going to look at the 10 Reasons Why INTJs Don’t Conform.

As an INTJ myself, I approve this! With the only exception of "the kid always questioning the teacher". It is true that we question a lot, but since we're introverts, we do it mostly only in our heads, without expressing it. We do it so to avoid creating an unecessary situation.

I think this maybe depends on the kid. I often questioned teachers particularly when they didn’t explain the logic behind something and even had a teacher tell me I had no respect for authority. I think I was very confident in my own abilities and happy to support my arguments logically. I also think my son may be INTJ as he challenged his teachers from an early age but not in an aggressive way more inquisitive, although some found it annoying 😂

INTJ's are condemned to a life of loneliness. Even with people in your life. You will understand things that others never will. And you have the ability to accept certain harsh truths about life in general that others do not. You have to accept that speaking what's on your mind will result in other people either becoming angry with you, thinking you're stupid, or thinking you're crazy. You may know certain truths about life and human nature, though you have to keep them all a secret. If you want to have romantic relationships, then you must pretend to be normal, especially if you're a man. I cope by barring myself in books to hear others comment on similar ideas and beliefs as my own, to remind myself that I'm not the only person in the world who sees things for what they actually are. To feel like I'm not crazy.

1) Independence. I agree with your general sentiment here, but you just also said we don't conform out of fear of mediocrity. And that we will be the dissenting voice just for attention. And no. We dissent because either we believe in our dissent or we believe that people should plan for dissent to ensure success, and we don't fear mediocrity if we conform on things. A broken clock is still right twice a day. Sometimes society and conformity makes sense. We just don't conform unless we're convinced it's a good plan.

As an INTJ, I used to find it hard to not conform, since I was dealing with a lot of social anxiety at the time. But sometimes even though I didn't talk much, or at all even, I would find a way to be a non-conformist. Probably when I thought no one was noticing me anyways. I just never had that high ambition to achieve, or well I'm just an INTJ with not much confidence to put it mildly. @CCharles0519
@CCharles0519 2 ай бұрын
@TheComedyGeek I suppose I cannot put all the blame on the 'masses', because after all its in our nature as social creatures, though I hope you can see my point. They are like fields of grass bending to the wind, amongst which the occasional rock buried firmly in the ground can be found. I must also admit that INTJs, especially young ones, tend to have a superiority complex. Most people will avoid or even harrass a 'raw' INTJ, that is, those who don't put on a social 'mask', thus the vast majority of people tend to hold them in contempt or fear. This will make the 'raw' INTJ come to a crossroad. If others have such strong opinions of them, they must be different, and that must mean they are either extremely good, or bad, as a person, because they dont 'fit in', just like a rock will never look like the blades of grass around it. And since the INTJ apparently has a predisposition to perfectionism, they will perform especially well in their fields of interest. These two factors combined will naturally lead many or most INTJs to draw the conclusion that they don't 'fit in' because they are better than others. I will freely admit that I also have sense of superiority at times, having tested as INTJ multiple times in a row. I know this assumption is not ill founded and is at least partially truthful, but I still try to be careful with going overboard with it.
@CCharles0519
@CCharles0519 2 ай бұрын
@TheComedyGeek You get my point though. Think of a field of grass, the grass bows to the whims of the wind, but among the blades of grass, the odd rock, buried firmly in the ground, can be found. The rock is not so easily swayed by the weather. I suppose this type of mentality exists for good reason. When an INTJ inevitably realises that they don't fit in, they will come to the conclusion that they must be too good or too bad, as a person, to fit in. Now when they also consider that they almost always excel in their fields of interest, or at least, seem to excel compared to others, they will naturally draw the conclusion that they don't fit in because they are better. And while this sounds arrogant on the surface, it's not an ill founded assumption. When you combine these two factors you can see how an INTJ draws such a conclusion. Admittedly, sometimes I go overboard with it too.

I'm only 2.5 minutes in, and I have to say, the narrator sounds like they're saying INTJs don't conform because it isn't aesthetically pleasing to them or something. In my experience, I don't tend to conform if I don't agree that whatever we're supposed to conform to- makes any sense. If I don't agree with it, I dislike having to pretend and go along with things. I'll vocalize as much, if I feel passionately about it... however, if I agree with it- like queuing up in line for something, then I will certainly confirm because I agree with the system or method serving the purpose it's meant to serve.

I relate to most of these, but not questioning authority per se. I needed my teachers to like me and if something seemed contrary to my way of thinking I might raise my hand but would be too intimidated to argue (although to some people apparently questioning = arguing). Similarly in the workplace I would assume that a boss or supervisor knew better than I by virtue of experience (which they sometimes felt the need to point out), although I would get frustrated when my methods were nixed or truncated. I did argue with my dad a lot as his rules would seem arbitrary and nonsensical. As for impatience, I'm typically impatient with other people's impatience if anything. Things take as long as they take to be done correctly, *period*; and skipping steps or getting mad at any perceived "slowness" is short-sighted and lazy. And research isn't so much a matter of curiosity as necessity. Decisions can be made ONLY after all the pertinent information has been collected and all of the options reviewed, and individual facts make no sense without a context (i.e., a big picture) in which to place them.

intj rule: never conform to stupidity. i was kicked out of my christian school because i refused to bend down to some of the rules. actual examples: teacher giving us personal email to talk about "moods between the classmates", literally pulling students to the office and telling them to spy on others, hounding on students for their appearance outside of school and in their free time, judging students for the music they listen to (aka if you're listening to rock/metal means you're a bad person). i was very vocal about my dislike for those rules. needless to say, i was hated by almost all teachers and even though there was no legal grounds to - i was demanded to leave the school or i'd be failed. my grades were way above average so there was no way this was anything but malice. they ended up lowering my final grades so much, my mom couldn't find another school. i was accepted elsewhere but teachers thought i was a dumbass due to my school certificate until i showed them the chart of my grades from that schoolyear (signed by the teachers themselves, mind you). my new teachers were in complete disbelief at what my previous school had done. i could've gone after them legally but i was exhausted from that whole mess and had an exam to focus on. it was worth it bc i scored second best at the entire school despite it all.

Ugh so many videos get this wrong. It's not about control. Its not about not being 'mediocre'. It isn't even about "success". INTJ's are about doing it right. If your system or rule or community worked, you wouldn't need me in the first place. You want us to help, then let us fix it instead of just walking in the footsteps of failure.

All these facets can always be expressed maturely or immaturely, they have nothing to do with your nature or design, only with your personal choice of self-expression

@@pragMASTROwhat a bunch of gibberish. Who cares how mature it is expressed? The person listening, that’s who. The intj doesn’t give a shit how turned off you are by the delivery of truth.

I don't agree with the need to know why. If there's a process I just need to follow the steps, I can figure out why later. Or suggest changes later. Think I lost a job once saying that out loud at an interview. :)

I mean...As an INTJ i'm not very found of going straight up against people on the top bc it would just get me in trouble. I'm more on the side of being annoying to them to the point they just leave me alone. Does this count as non conforming?

Visionary and curious, intjs skew to logic, autonomy and efficiency to avoid mediocre underachievement. Yet as rebellious and detached loners, to authority they may come off as overconfident, impatient and arrogant hence a disruptive and defiant threat.

kind of contradicting. If you look deeper though you would notice that descriptions of intj fit very well with what's described as schizoid. While ENTJ fits well with narcissistic personality. ENTJ and INTJ have the same cognitive functions, but developed and ordered differently. Narcissism and schizoid is believed (well, researched) is formed by the same structures of the brain with the same problems - emotional deficit and disregulation. But they cope in quite different way with this problem. Something to think about. No, it's far from being just a horoscope. It makes much more sense.
