This heart-wrenching bit of Irish-Mexican history involves the St. Patrick’s Battalion, also known as San Patricios.

Son of an Irish immigrant to America living in San Francisco and very proud of Los San Patricio's. Brave and honorable men fighting along side our Mexican comrades against the same anglo imperialism that invaded Ireland some 600 years prior and still brutally occupied it. F***k anglo imperialism! Anglos out of northern Ireland and northern Mexico aka the southwest. Viva Mexico y Erin go Bragh!

HighScore Boy I've been to Mexico many times and they are very friendly. You can come to my house and clean it. I'm too busy with my six figure tech job to clean it. The No Irish Need Apply is from the same racist anglos that stole half of Mexico, murdered and raped native Americans for their land and took slaves from Africa.

No, they were traitors. Defecting to the opposing side is literally what "traitor" means. The real heroes were the Irishmen who stood by the nation they emigrated to despite the discrimination.

@@redaug4212 They weren't traitors. Most were straight off the boat and not even citizens yet but tricked into joining then mistreated. By your definition George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and all the founding fathers were traitors.

I'm disappointed in my old high school for not knowing about this at the time. I myself have both nationalities other than Spanish, and I will say this. We fellow Americans do owe Mexico 🇲🇽 for all the pain, and suffering we inflicted towards them. Just like what we did to the Native Americans. Yes we due owe Ireland 🇮🇪 so does United Kingdom for all inflicting pain, agony from Bloody Sunday January 30 1972 to Hunger Strike May 5 1981. I'm so lost with words right now.

I'd rather be a traitor to a racist,imperialist government that slaughtered its way through Mexico than be a traitor to human decency. But the Americans aren't good with the books so they don't look at it that way
@redaug4212 Жыл бұрын
@@user-ze8yy8jg1f And you think that Mexico wasn't run by a racist imperialist government that kept millions in peonage based on a racial hierarchy, and slaughtered and enslaved thousands of Mesoamericans? You my friend, are naive.
@user-ze8yy8jg1f Жыл бұрын
@@redaug4212 2 wrongs don't make a right. It's the lesser of 2 evils. We are Catholics American ls were protestants Mexicans were Catholics. In the American army they beat irish for being Catholic fed them a lot less than protestant soldiers. Worse equipment then to go in raping and killing other Catholics. Who is the real traitors? The Americans who beat and starved irish soldiers that both took the same oath or the irish soldiers who were sick of seeing fellow Catholics killed for imperial gains
@redaug4212 Жыл бұрын
@@user-ze8yy8jg1f In other words, your position isn't based on principle. You don't care that Mexico was governed by tyrants who did the exact same things that the US did. All you care about is how they treated catholics; how they treated *your* tribe. No doubt defecting to Mexico was an easy choice to make for some white European catholics considering how highly regarded they were by Mexican society. The traitors weren't fighting the good fight. They were fighting for themselves. They couldn't care less about American injustices, or, more importantly, Mexican injustices. The real heroes are those who stood by their decision to become Americans despite the hardship and mistreatment. They are the strong men. The Irish and other Europeans who remained loyal now have an enduring legacy as some of the most patriotic Americans, while these traitors are only heroes to people who hate America or aren't even American.
@user-ze8yy8jg1f Жыл бұрын
@@redaug4212 so your comment is just opinion because there's not one bit of fact to back up any of that. I came here to talk facts. And since your compare Mexican imperialism to America says enough. I take it your a yank and if your not then that's even worse. If Mexican imperialism was the same as American then why does everyone hate America and not Mexico? Anyway one simple thing changes everything. The way they treated irish soldiers in the American army is acts of traitors. Irish faught for Mexico because they were Catholics not lithe Americans
