After the end of the 100 Year war and the final defeat of Fire Lord Sozin, Prince Zuko took his rightful place as ruler of the Fire Nation… But did you know that Iroh actually became Fire Lord after this for a short time? So the one question that was posed ominously at the end of Avatar The Last Airbender, but never got answered was when Zuko Asked Ozai where his mother was. Well that search continued very shortly after the show came to an end. Zuko gathered his friends and even broke Azula out of the mental hospital and began the search for Ursa… During this time however, he could not rule the Fire Nation. He would not be present in the homeland, and therefore he was forced to appoint an interrim firelord in his place to run the day to day affairs of the kingdom… The obvious choice for this? Uncle Iroh… Iroh was originally supposed to have the throne before Ozai so it was only right that Zuko gave this honor to his loving uncle.

@Afrika Smith while I wouldn't condone mistreatment in this case, simply because it breeds more mistreatment and messed up people, the veterans who committed war crimes probably got off scott-free and is only now hearing anything about it... I think of the woman who aided in the muder of Emmett Till. Along with those who carried out the murder, she played a significant part in his cruel, premature death, yet was never punished for it. She's in her 80s/90s now, and her "trial" determined thst she would not go to jail for the part she played in her infamous crime. She deserved to make up for the jail time she should have served, even in her frail old age, especially because her views never changed. So if someone wanted to mistreat her for a crime she avoided being accountable for, I honestly couldn't blame them. The law failed to do so and this is a form of karma and an appropriate rejection of someone with inhumane values.

Even after everyone pays for their war crimes and there's forgiveness violent conflicts somewhere else starts up again, and it's mostly over bs. Would be nice if there was no bs and everyone has a chance to figure out how to live in peace. We made civilization, we can get food more easily compared to other animals and we traveled into space. Why not strive for peace?

The real world could never be that simple. Leaders who solely represent themselves, undermining the voice of the people subjugated, will be selfish. Leaders, who represent and amplify the voices of the people they lead, are subjugated to adjusting their personal interests with national the agenda, which is always changing and complex. The lack of everlasting peace is at the fault of everyone. Not just the world leaders.

Uncle iroh is awesome I think after his son died he was forced by the tragedy to look at things more objectively (the invasion of ba-sing-sei the fire nation and himself) so when ozai took irou's birthright the throne uncle irou didn't care or try to flight it because he realized what's truly important that's why although he tries to guide zuko on a more positive path he was subtle in how he did so

Plus even if iroh were stronger he's not as ruthless of cunning. I suspect he'd lose by being too soft and not finishing the fight when he could. Just as ang almost lost for the same reasons

@@nicholascharles9625 Nah Iroh has no issue with Murder but he didn’t care about the throne as his son was dead that’s why he didn’t care about Ozai’s treachery as he was more focused on mourning for his son and even went to the spirit world to look for him. Remember Ozai was nothing apart from being a Fire Prince. Unlike Iroh. Iroh was Crown prince, General, Hero of the Fire Nation and Dragon of the West. He knew Ozai had done foul play and had way more support than Ozai could ever have. Ozai was Zuko basically while his father was around and that was something he projected onto his first born as he saw Azula as being more like him. Iroh chose his successor in Zuko.

I heard that Zuko asked Iroh to do that. I wish we could see it in an episode. Zuko is my favorite character. Especially in the new Avatar series Netflix made. I love how they just litked showed more of how Zuko felt when he was banished. We got more feelings of that from Zuko in just 3 episodes than we did in one season. I just watched episode 6 and can't wait to see how it ends. And am even more excited for season 2. And I just heard that they are releasing another cartoon series when they were in their thirties. I'm hoping it will be good and not boring. Perhaps we will get more explanation about those flashbacks that Korra had. And even what I've heard from the comics.

One small thing, but important. Zuko didn’t break Azula out of “a” mental hospital so much as he took her out of “the mental hospital he put her into.” Do you think she just randomly ended up in one? Who exactly was the Fire Lord when that happened? Zuko. It wasn’t a random thing that he had nothing to do with. It was THE mental hospital he put her in, not just A mental hospital that randomly happened. Specificity is key to correctly relaying information & not sounding biased.
