My favorite line from Band Geeks is definitely, "Squidward was always there for us when it was convenient for him." That, and stuff like the joke about pretending that Squidward was actually a hero, went completely over my head when I was a kid and so it was really funny watching it again as an adult.

This is the perfect episode in my opinion. Almost every character has a funny moment: Mr. Krabs-big meaty claws! Patrick and Sandy play off each other, Plankton on the harmonica, the list goes on, but most of all, I think Spongebob had the best moment when he inspired everyone to come together for Squidward after he'd given up hope on them. There's also tons of classic funny moments like Patrick asking if mayonnaise is an instrument and Spongebob's eager face. When I learned this was Squilliam's first appearance, I kinda figured he was potentially a one shot character who made more appearances because of how well he was used here. I always hoped they would reuse Bubble Bass after Pickles, but I think he only appears in FUN after that, which is disappointing, same thing with Flats. I think Plankton and Squilliam are the only antagonists who have endured more than a few episodes. I love a lot of Spongebob episodes especially early on, but I think this one stands head and shoulders above the rest.

I apologize for the tangent, but these days I never seem to get that much of a laugh out of the show. Maybe it's because of how often I've seen them in the past, or maybe it's because every single joke and punchline is engrained into my mind, so I know when it's going to happen, completely ruining potential unpredictability I would've experienced on the first watch. I think the best reasons for people liking Band Geeks is #3 and #5. You barely ever see Squidward win at the end and it's real satisfying to see an often abused character triumph. Plus you hardly ever get to see a lot of main characters all in one place like you said. Band Geeks is not my favorite episode, but it's definitely n my top 10 favorite. To me, the best Spongebob episode is Rock A Bye Bivale. It shows Spongebob doing something we almost never see: acting mature. It's played off with some excellent laugh bits. Plus I think Patrick portrays the lazy father type really well as it does highlight some problems with parenthood. It's one of those weird "Patrick is a Prick" episodes that actually works as this is an issue in real life. Plus the whole episode is just filled to the brim with jokes, my favorite being Spongebob finding Patrick's "job" and yelling "OVERTIME?!". Every time I see that scene I just burst out laughing.

I think it's because the "Sweet Victory" part that a lot of people love it for. (I mean, that's one of the main reasons I love it so much) And, as people in the comments have been saying, some of the best Spongebob quotes come from this episode.

I think part of the reason so many love this episode is that the entire supporting cast all pitch in to make the band a success. It's so refreshing to not see the townspeople act like asshats.

Okay, I've done a little research and this is what I found. Singer David Glen Eisley only produced one solo album, Strangers from the Past, in 2000. Based on this, I'd say that this song at the very least debuted with the episode, and probably did not come out in 1986 or 1988. However, this is all circumstantial and I could be mistaken.

I've always looked at this episode from a comedic standpoint, and every single joke works and is funny. There's the memes that this episode made but also several other jokes, like Plankton with his harmonica and the flag twirlers. Even to this day I still laugh at all the jokes in Band Geeks.

I think a major part of it is that after seeing Squidward fail constantly and be utterly miserable for years, it was extremely refreshing to see him actually win, not only with Spongebob's help, but with basically all of Bikini Bottom backing him. Even though he's usually at odds with Spongebob and other characters and is rarely the protagonist of an episode, viewers don't dislike him at all. We usually just end up feeling sorry for him. The happy ending we ended up with was so well deserved and done so well it's definitely one of the most memorable and best episodes ever, if not the best.

I know this may seem like an unusual choice but my favourite episode of Spongebob is Frankendoodle. The reason for that is because it's the only Spongebob episode which, in my opinion at least, had a perfect balance of an interesting plot and funny comedy. This is because whilst most of the pre movie Spongebob episodes are really funny, the plots for those episodes were really simplistic but this episode's plot is probably the one of the most creative I've seen out of Spongebob. Don't get me wrong, episodes like Sand Castles in the Sand also manage to have really creative plots but I feel that the over imaginative plots in episodes like that kind of overshadow the comedy but in Frankendoodle, there are still plenty of really funny moments in the episode whilst never wasting the creative plot. The Doodlebob itself is also a great villain because he's the only Spongebob villain who manages to be simultaneously funny and threatening whereas villains like Plankton are too funny to be threatening or villains like Dennis are too threatening to be funny but Frankendoodle finds the perfect villain who is both funny and threatening

Here's an opinion from an actual "band geek", this is not only my favorite episode, but the favorite episode of most of my friends in band who like spongebob as well. What makes it so popular with band kids (especially marching band) is that it is so easy to relate to as to how pretty much any marching group is: You have the visionary (Squidward) who could be the director, but also a senior or upperclassmen that knows and wants to bring out the full potential of the group. You have people like Mr. Krabs ("When do we get the free food?") who are in it just for the benefits like going on trips, and well, band mom food is not only free, but incredibly delicious. You always have the small group that starts drama which seems to eventually get to the whole group, but then, like in every season of band I've been involved in, there is an epiphany for the entire group, and they realize what needs to be done, and they finally come together to perform an amazing show, because they are all like family at the end of the day. One of my favorite parts is when Squidward has them all play louder to "sound good", because any band kid knows that is complete BS. In short, it is my favorite because it gets so many things right about band. Also, I drive a white sedan, and more than once, I've been tempted to leave my lights on at practice to see who got the reference...

I think another fun thing that I noticed as I got older is this episode is full of scenes where the characters try really hard but failing or not meeting the results they want. And when they finally band together and go up to the human world like they othercame it, they are still presented with the final challenge of doing it while feeling weird and sick seeing those "ugly looking fish". It's part of the underdog story, one final hurdle in their way to make it to the final goal. And it's so classic to give one final challenge, really bring it all together even though it's such a small scene.

However, my favorite episode is Dying for Pie. I like how it balances humor and heart and is a good showing of the SpongeBob and Squidward dynamic.

Christmas Who? is actually my favorite. It has... A: A great song with Very First Christmas. I love this song and it's a joy to listen to. B: Character development. Squidward gets a hefty amount of character development here. He went from making fun of SpongeBob and being a huge jackass to being someone who literally gave up all his possessions to make SpongeBob happy. C: The comedy. This episode offers a ton of jokes that I adore to this day, especially the one about Squidward being an ass being represented by a donkey on the screen. That's a joke I never understood until I grew up, which was a really clever joke I never got as a kid. There's also drunk Santa and the Patchy stuff, too, like the **name and address withheld** is one I found pretty funny. Finally, D: It captures a spirit of Christmas, my favorite holiday. I think that Squidward just pretending to be Santa for SpongeBob was enough to warm my heart. He truly shows that he cares about the little dude, even if he is annoying. It shows Squidward's heart and his human side, which I'm always a fan of seeing with characters like Squidward. Other episodes that are great include Band Geeks, Wet Painters, The Slumber Party, Sand Castles in the Sand, Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy V, Dunces & Dragons, and a handful of others. I really don't see modern or classic, I just see good and bad.

you are right in that one of my fondest memories of spongebob is the episode band geeks. i liked that we got to see all the characters and some even spoke like plankton, larry, sandy, and even a background fish arguing with mr.krabs. the song is memorable too. i can remember seeing sandy rocking out, spongebob singing his heart out and squidward lifting his hands up in "SWEEEET SWEEEET SWEEET VICTORY!!!!" and it was.... i just got goosebumbs, lol my favorite episode for me.

It's MORE than a perfect example of SpongeBob I like the way coolcat put it "Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy V left you laughing from beginning to end, Chocolate With Nuts had TONS of memorable moments, and Christmas Who? had an amazing musical number, and the best SpongeBob episode has all THREE of these things in just one episode", I paraphrased it a bit, but you get the point The rate at which threw jokes at me is impressive, even for a SpongeBob episode, and it had some memorable moments too, if it did JUST this, it would still be a good episode, but there are two things that push it over the top, One: Squidward wins in the end, we don't see this very often, and Squidward is my personal favorite character. Two: It ends with an awesome musical number

I quite honestly think there's something about Band Geeks that has to appeal to the younger audience (at least at the time) that carried over with nostalgia. I actually recall, upon my parents one day asking me what my favorite episode was, me deciding within moments that it's Band Geeks. I was around eight or nine at the time, so about a decade ago. However, since then, I've rewatched the show and although I do enjoy Band Geeks, watching from an older perspective it is certainly not in my top ten list. My top favorites of the show would be Idiot Box, Squilliam Returns, Rock a Bye Bivalve, Chocolate With Nuts, Can You Spare a Dime, and One Krab's Trash (in that general order first-to-last).

As a person who thinks Band Geeks is the best episode in spongebob, I think I can tell you that the episode is loved by a lot of people primarily because of the ending. If I'm gonna be honest, Band Geeks is the one episode that made me continue watching spongebob again and again without stopping (until season 5 as I could tell it was getting weaker) and when I first saw Band Geek, I only saw the ending because the episode was already finishing. By then, I instantly loved it (and I'm not even a fan of rock music in general) Also, I just thought I should add that the 7 main characters are SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr Krabs, Sandy, Plankton & Gary. Only Gary doesn't appear. Any other characters are said to be secondary or minors

One other reason Bang Geeks might be everyone's favorite (mine included, right before Grandma's Kisses) is that it's sort of a call back to Ripped Pants, the original underdog episode of SBSP with a song ending, but it shows how far the show had come from its first episode. It's like Ripped Pants, but on a much more epic and satisfying scale. I definitely think Pieguy has a point about the 80s underdog story as a reason why this episode is so memorable to people For some reason underdog stories stay with us a lot more than other stores. They feel bigger, the cast feels like a family that has accomplished something--that's helped even more so by the fact that most of the main and side characters are here. Come to think of it, Band Geeks would have been an even better last episode before the finale than The Sponge Who Could Fly, certainly better than The Stranger/Pranks a Lot. The ending of the first movie seemed to take from this and Ripped Pants based on how popular they were. And as a kid, they seem even more epic. One of the gifts of this show is that these moments come out of nowhere, but they feel so grand and triumphant and harmonious and conclusive.

Band Geeks for sure is in my top 10 & you pretty much listed all the reasons why I love it but I have to say Shanghaied is my absolute favorite. That was the first time I did something to interact with television, I felt so proud of myself for voting SpongeBob, especially after seeing what the others would have wished for. It had some fantastic jokes like the sky had a baby & the perfume department. I also enjoyed Patrick's parking job. Something else about it, it's one of the spooky episodes. I enjoy the atmosphere in those, Graveyard Shift is another one of my favorites because these are ones you'd watch after telling scary stories with friends at a sleepover to get a bit of comedy in the cut the creepy feel but still keep a little bit of it. Not that I was lucky enough to happen across one during that time but it's happened before.

I agree with you about Band Geeks being in the top ten. It's #6 for me, but my favorite is Gary Takes A Bath because of the creative gags that it had and my favorite line from the whole show "Yeah Yeah Gary I'm scrubbing behind my ears." Comes from that episode. Shanghaied is #4 for me because 1. The perfume department gag, and 2. Spongbob's wish was awesomely hilarious in a way.

Band geeks has a bigger impact for me because my mom and older sister used to adore the Ep. I remember I'd call out to them anytime it was on and they'd rush in and watch it with me. And my mom anytime she was cleaning would blast "Sweet Victory" and it would make me so happy. Plus when Squidward says "I'll just tell them you all died in a marching accident" is a quote I've used for over a decade. It's one of my memorial moments. I love that line like a child xD

It was all just amazingly epic. and yes, the ending song was the most epic part of the whole episode. it made anyone whoever watched that episode feel like a winner, and it still holds up today.

This is one of my personal favorites because it's one of the few shows that ever gave marching band the dignity it deserves and didn't stereotype everyone into a bunch of bracefaced nerds, while still remaining funny as all hell. I'm sure many marching band enthusiasts can testify.

I love how this episode closes with squidward actually suceeding and being happy for once. The show is famous for torture porn but this episode begins squidward being tortured but than in the end he actually succeeds and I cry every time he jumps in the aid in the end because he looks genuinely happy and is an outstanding closing to the episode. Plus the song is amazing.

dying for pie is my favorite because it's just so hilariously over the top with all the explosions the pie creates. and when spongebob says WHOAH... A PIE! there's a note. well, here ya go. when he should be noticing the gaping hole in the building but isn't. so funny.

I'm a percussionist in a high-school band, and the reason why this is my favorite episode is because how accurate it is, at least in my experience. All the way back in elementary school not knowing what anything was, teaching the newbies, the stress of competitions, and the how the people act is all spot on.

This episode was already funny to me when I was young, but then I joined the marching band. Speaking from experience as a band student, even band members who weren't big spongebob fans liked this episode. It was just so relatable. As I've grown older I have learned that it's not only my band from high school who loved it, marching bands everywhere have adopted a love for this one episode, to the point where there's not any given week where it's not memed on at least once.

Yeah, I would say Band Geeks is my favorite. The song at the end really hit it over the edge. My second favorite is Chocolate with nuts, followed by Wet Painters. "Hold it Spongebob, we're not cavemen. We have Technology. (Smashes computer on dollar)"

Chocolate For Nuts has to be my favorite Spongebob episode. it just works and is so hilarious through and through. It's also the first episode that comes to mind with that show, because it's just so memorable. Band Geeks is in my top ten. I dunno if I would put it in second place or not, because Hall Monitor is also enjoyable.

Personally, it's my favorite because of how memorable it is. There are a lot of episodes I haven't seen in years that I have gone back to, reminding of a lot of funny jokes, and clever premises I had forgotten since I last saw them. But with Band Geeks, I still remember all the jokes, and the great premise, and the involvement of the characters from when I saw it as a kid. It just stuck with me more than any other episode has, and with stuff like the ending, and all the gags with the fish (especially Patrick) screwing things up, how could it not?

I think the developing plot is what makes this episode great. We saw Squidward was getting through emotional developing, from confidence to desperate to heartbroken and finally he achieved victory, a sweet victory :)

Band Geeks is my third favorite episode behind Dying for Pie and Shanghaied. I just like Dying for Pie because it has a lot of suspense and we see Squidward care a lot about SpongeBob in that episode. Shanghaied however is my favorite though. So many classic moments in that one!
