Sorry to dominate the comments, but if you don't mind just one more- Have you seen the way that Christian Okoye of the Chiefs is statted on TSB? Take Neal Anderson and Brad Muster, and combine them, and you had a monster of a RB. Jackson may have been the fastest, but Okoye, when played by a person, was a dominant back. When I was a 20-year-old and this game was out, I had a group of friends of mine that got together for four straight years on New Years' Eve and did an all-night Tecmo Bow War. Each of us picked a team, and we played an entire 16-week season with playoffs and Super Bowl, with the winner getting a small trophy that all of us kicked in to buy. The first year, my friend Jayson had the Kansas City Chiefs, and blew everyone apart by just pounding Okoye over and over. He could do wonders with Okoye, getting out of the way of tackles and barreling over others. He just wrecked me in the AFC Championship game (I had the Oilers), and won the whole thing that year. It was such a blast. Good times. I'll shut up now; thanks for sharing this.

Yep you could do that in the original Tecmo Bowl for sure. It got a little tougher in TSB cause the plays were a little more complex but if you are good at the game you can contain Bo to some extent. Thanks for commenting.

This was great! Excellent breakdown. I always wondered what the official speed stats were. Bo was a beast no doubt, but I still always went with the 49ers with Montana to Rice and Roger Craig at running back. But the main reason was Ronnie Lott on defense. It was timing. Tecmo Bowl for the NES was supposedly based on the 1988 season, but it was clearly 1987 with Chicago still having Walter Payton (he retired after the 87 season) and Indianapolis, Denver, and Washington included as they all made the playoffs in the 87 season. Bo was insane his rookie year, with the signature game against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. He was actually pretty pedestrian under Mike Shanahan in 1988 but was great against when Art Shell took over in 1989 and in 1990.

How to "stop" Bo Jackson in Tecmo Super Bowl: Be the Philadelphia Eagles. Offense for offense. QB Eagles aka Randall Cunningham is a juggernaut, in his own right. Defense for the Eagles has Bob Golic, who can lurch and stop any run up the middle. Lurching is often deemed "illegal." If thats the case, simply use Reggie White as your defensive player.

Great video!!! We all had Nintendeo Systems, but Tecmo Super Bowl was one game I never owned. Played it all the time at a friends house but I owned games more like Contra. However, I finally realize why the game pissed me off so much and I was never allowed to be first player, so that I could never pick my team first. He had the game fixed from the start. Jerk. I gotta beef to squash with my old buddy now. Its gonna flip him out if I go to the trouble of tracking him down, wherever he is now, just to tell him that I finally know why he was always the Raiders and why he always won. I hated that game specifically for that reason. Mater of fact, thats why I never asked for that game for Christmas or birthdays. I thought I just wasnt good. Now it makes sense. Obvisously, bringing this back up has opened an old wound. lol. Some kids had bullies they could never forget. My bully was a video game designed to cheat if you picked the right player. Oh how my life may have been different! hahahahaha

I got Tecmo Super Bowl for Christmas as a kid. I knew the Raiders were good - but did not know that Bo Jackson was the main guy until this video. I always used The Giants, the Bills, or 49ers. If you think Bo Jackson was fast - Walter Payton in the first Tecmo Bowl was Unstoppable! lol - By the way - Bases loaded 1 and 2 were the other sports games I owned. Games were easy and simple back then - now you almost have to take a college class to learn the games these days. ha ha ha lol

The Nintendo version is really good but it's nowhere near as good as the Super Nintendo version. Super Tecmo Bowl is a lot better with no screen flicker, you can do touchbacks, etc. It's the best version of Tecmo Bowl ever made. I can't even play the original anymore and the NES version of Tecmo SB is really primitive. They could have just updated the rosters on Super Tecmo Bowl and I would have continued to buy it. It's still one of my favorite games and I play it all the time.

Love this game, LT getting over 100 sacks in one season, Dwight Stone with the steelers getting 25 kick return tds and having 3 receivers in the top 3 as SF. Great times
@unclejoe19175 жыл бұрын
I always had a theory that the game was programmed to give teams with bad offenses good kick returners so they would rack up fewer offensive yards. Dwight Stone was an animal, but Pittsburgh's offense is garbage. Same with Gil Fenerty and the Saints.
@giampaolofini1535 Жыл бұрын
@@unclejoe1917 It was due to a programming error that made all returners, no matter their speed ranking have their max speed on returns equal to the teams RT max speed. The Saints and Steelers had the fastest RTs in the game, so no matter what players you put in for them to do returns, they are faster than any player on any other team taking returns.

Wayne Haddix from the Buccaneers, John Offerdahl from the Dolphins, and Jerry Ball from the Lions are all hidden defensive gems in this game.
@giampaolofini1535 Жыл бұрын
Fun facts about all 3: Haddix is rated the best CB in the game due to his ranking being based on the '90 season in which he lead the league in INTs with 7. He never had another INT before or after that season and only played 42 games in the NFL. Offerdahl opened a bagel restaurant in the '90 season which later became a chain that would later merge with another group to become the nationwide chain Einstein's Bagels. Ball being a stud shouldn't be too surprising to those following NFL at the time, he was selected to the Pro Bowl in '89,'90 and '91 and was arguably the best DT in the league. He is one of the few players to have a rule change informally named after him. The "Jerry Ball Rule" outlawed chop blocks after he was injured by one.
