Brandi doesn't OVERSING, she lets her voice tell the story without throwing you out of it with TOO many belts and or riffs & runs. That's letting the song LIVE without trying to outdo the instrumentation, THAT actually helps the voice shine and stand out more as a vocal instrument. True definition of not trying too hard.

even as a white kid in australia, growing up watching Brandy rise it was clear she was all round talented. the original broadcast of MTV awards with brandy and monica showed how effortlessly brandy out sung monica… ive only found later re- engineered versions where they remixed monica. even when i had no singing training i could tell how good Brandy was for her choices, her restraint, her tone, now ive done a tiny bit of singing class, it only confirms everything i suspected. you just don’t get that level of skill very often in popular music

@@mikevalentine8369 yeah demographics matter in the way this show is presented, who or what understood who or what is part of the storytelling. One of my favorite songs of all time is Almost Doesn't Count. The layering of the background. Everything from the early production, shifting it from a country song to a sensual r&b classic and her melismatic voice bringing it to life. Only Mariah can do runs with such musicality and precision. She isn't given enough credit for her beautiful voice. Dawn Richard, as much as she tries denying it, was clearly inspired by Brandy. Part of why she is underrated is because she didn’t crossover during a time when the musical landscape was changing in the direction of pop and image. The 90s still dominated with R&B. The 2000s shifted to very image conscious brands. She tried to go along with the 2000s trends but it didn’t work for her. It is quite sad because she is actually the foundation for what a lot of these girls use in their music today yet they still can’t achieve her level of vocal arrangement.

This was EXCELLENT!!! Brandy is the foundation and influence for so many singers and this “minisode” captivated the WHY in its short 11min. This was very well produced and it would be great to see a full episode of this.

This is probably strange, but maybe not but one of my favorite Brandy tracks is actually off her first album. It's the I Dedicate interlude Part 3! She sings it so beautiful and I feel it is a great example of her vocal range. I still listen to it over and over! ❤

2:06??? they dont call Janet the queen of pop for nothing. She charted successfully on the R&B and moreso on the pop charts. Check your facts

I believe that was referencing Janet’s limited success in the beginning of her career (pre-control era) in the early to mid-80s when she was a teen. As she got older and dropped Control, her career sky rocketed.

She literally is a "Song Bird" My lil sis is a DIE HARD B-Wood fan, (also my sis sings just as well) so she knows notes, etc & she made me recognize 1 thing that changed my entire outlook on singers, my sis was like... "It's the fact that she can get so ( *Low* ) so loudly. Then it dawned on me not many singers that can pull that off cept T Braxton.

I love Brandy and I love this tribute. But I can't say that I agree that when she came out black female R&B singers were missing from the charts.Toni Braxton, TLC, Brownstone, SWV, CeCe Penniston, EnVogue, Janet, and Whitney were all charting artists around that same time.

But before Aaliyah, Brandy and Monica, teenage black girls struggled to breakthrough into the mainstream
@4u2cre8

@@chrisman3431 If you're just talking teenagers then yeah. There weren't a lot of black female teenage solo artists before them. Whitney being one of the few exceptions. She was 19. Aretha went mainstream as a teen too but you gotta go pretty far back for that.

@@4u2cre8 Aretha didn't blew up until her 9th studio album "I Never loved a Man The Way I love You" at 24-25 years old tho. ' And Whitney was in her late teens early twenties, around 19-20 when her debut came out. But it didn't blew up immediatly. It was MONTHS later when she was already 20 years old and after the album's 3rd single "You Give good love" that the success began (peaked at number 3 on the billboard hot 100) and the next single Saving All My Love for you became her first #1s and made her an international superstar

@@4u2cre8 Aaliyah set a precedent when she came out in 1994, followed by Brandy later that year and Monica in 1995. They were all between the age of 13 and 15 when their succesful debut came out. And Brandy was able to crossover to pop audiences. I Wanna be down, Sittin' up in my room, The Boy is Mine, Have You Ever and countless other top 10, top and #1s hits on the RnB charts and the pop charts... Her sophomore album 1998's Never Say Never sold 16 million ww and was certified 5× platinum in the US. She was starring in her own hit TV show "Moesha" (1996-2001), became the first black Cinderella on the 1997 TV movie with her Idol Whitney Houston or in the 199 TV movie "double platinum" starring her and legend/ Icon Diana Ross. She was in the Big screen in movies like I still know what you did last summer with Jennifer Love Hewitt. And then, there was the Brandy doll with her signature braids, she was the face of Cover girl, she had many endorsments and even went to her prom with a young Kobe Bryant who just got draft to the NBA. Who else had that resume as a young black female teenager prior to Brandy before reaching the age 20

@@chrisman3431 You keep moving the goal posts, lol. This wasn't about when black teenage girls "blew up". It was about black women being missing from the charts before Brandy, which isn't true. Secondly, Aretha topped the R&B charts at #7 when she was 19, and Whitney signed with Clive Davis, one of the biggest record producers of all time at 19 and charted with a huge hit very soon after at 20. The only reason she didn't blow up earlier was because her mother wanted her to finish high school and turned down her previous record deal offers. What I said still stands.
