The largest issue I've had with the battle pass and bazaar is having access to an item or thing acquired. when I'm offline or my net goes down, I lose access to these content items. This is unlike DLC packs which I can access regardless. So, for me the battle pass and bazaar have little to no value to me.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the Bazaar/BP being online-only access. Before they even implemented the Bazzar and BP they still struggled to churn out content and fixes. They were better off doing it as DLC as they did in the past. The resources are still in question, who is to say they have not lost some staff to Dune? I highly doubt they will reintroduce the old battle pass. Considering how War Torn Rhino was only released on PC and never on console, they tend to just drop the ball, get up, go forward and whatever was left behind... stays behind.
@Eradicati0nn5 ай бұрын
The DLC model was unsustainable for faster development, probably at least part of the reason why they were so slow to develop new content in the past. The resources aren't in question tho, the team has confirmed they're not sharing resources with Dune: imgur.com/ltbGL35 IMO, the team went from ploddingly slow to spriinting with their legs slipping, far too fast of a jump to be sustainable. 6 months is probably closer to the sweet spot of being able to develop stuff that isn't riddled with bugs and can be realized fully without requiring multiple updates to achieve one mechanic
@filidhdeklend8935 ай бұрын
@@Eradicati0nn if that's the case then why are they shifting gears and making seasons 6 months long? The whole "it was unsustainable" was just PR corporate word salad to justify a change we were told point blank would NEVER be implemented into the game by Joel Bylos himself during nearly every Live Stream they did until the Tencent buyout. I'm sorry but that dog no longer hunts after they decided to drop the battle pass and double the time between development releases.
@Eradicati0nn5 ай бұрын
@@filidhdeklend893 The update cycle is still roughly 3 months, the mid-season updates will most probably hit the mid-point between major updates, it just makes sense for them to land roughly at that mark. It's hard to tell yet exactly how much content the mid-seasons will have on average, but the plan was already to have two larger chapters and two smaller ones, so essentially the same thing Also, it doesn't become cheaper to make content just because it takes longer. If they're telling the truth and being honest about where the resources will be going and how the time is used, we'll receive larger and hopefully better tested content updates every 6 months, but artists, devs etc still need to be paid in that time for the same amount as they would in two chapters. As it is, without evidence of layoffs or a reduced amount of working time at Funcom offices, the cost to produce updates remains the same

I don't really think the Battle Pass has ever been about the money tbh, it's a mechanic to drive player engagement that should, theoretically, lead to more store purchases. The Battle Pass made me have to play more often to do boring grindy things to get the time limited stuff, which meant I overall got more tired of the game as I never really had time away from it to miss it. On the other hand, the way it returned your Crom Coins was nice and it did mean you got some basically free stuff. In a few cases, the stuff you got was cool enough to influence a playthrough by making a character to sorta RP with the theme. to answer your question in only one word: $$$ since you could only buy it once and use it basically for ever, it wasn't making them any money. also spending time and resources on "game play" won't bring them any money either. initially they would put out a DLC for a certain sum. now they committed to a certain schedule due to the ages and chapters. so basically once you bought the game, you can stay as f2p for ever, while they took it upon themselves to still put out content and keep the game alive. hence I also believe that the main focus will change towards the bazzar. and sadly definitely not towards bug fixes and quality of life improvements

A battle pass in a game where you need to pay to play the game is just strange to start with. Things like battlepasses, ingame shops etc are ways for F2P games to make money. But if you choose to make players pay to get your game thats how you monetize the game. Putting in more is just a clearly greedy way to milk your player base for more money. Even if paying is “optional”, we humans are really bad at making decisions and thats a scientifically proven fact, so putting all shiny and pretty stuff like that in a battlepass can easily cause players to pay more for a game they already paid for. I enjoyed Conan Exiles back in the day but i just dont feel like playing it anymore after all that extra monetization was put in

I've got to say the implementation of the changes to the battle pass system in chapter 4 was a glitchy mess for many people. Instead of making it faster it made it slower with constant bugs causing people to not gain the xp needed to advance the pass. For many, yeah it took a week or two but for many others it took up to 6 weeks or more to complete. On the whole I'm mixed as to how I feel about the pass, and that type of system in general trying to compel me to play the game more often then I'd like or risk missing out on rewards that interested me. The bazaar with it's insufferable rotating inventory availability isn't much better... actually with the overpriced nature of most the of the items it's worse. I'm not sure I'll miss the pass being gone, and as I've said before I'd really rather have it return to readily available DLC packs rather than the bazaar or in game events.

I have a very different theory about this. The whole "we want to focus our work on other stuff (and we're not telling you what)" is just PR talk. The simple reality is that the game is slowly dying as it ages, and the battlepass does not produce much revenue compared to the bazaar. Expect the rate of new content to slowly diminish over time. As revenue decreases, employees are laid off. Do not expect any significant quality improvements. They had more than 7 years to fix major issues like the horrid server performance and knocked out thralls falling through the map yet it's the same.
@Eradicati0nn4 ай бұрын
The statement is definitely put through the PR filter, basically every communication from every game dev is, aside from indies ofc. The BP was definitely not a money maker, but it was never intended to be, it's a retention mechanic. I'd bet they probably don't lose much, if any money by removing it, and I'm guessing it might not have been a great success in keeping people playing as they might have hoped. Results remain to be seen for now, and the game's age is definitely a negative factor in its growth, but I think they still have a chance. Given that they've just hired more staff for the Conan team, the next few updates will be instrumental in where the game is going, and how

@@Eradicati0nn oh I had no idea that they hired new staff, that's good to hear! I really hope they are IT experts who will fix performance and bugs, and not just artists and game designers. I remember during one of their livestreams of one of the age of sorcery reveals they kept getting disconnected from their official servers it was really embarrassing to watch. And couple days ago I started playing on official again and the server was busted all of last night.

I'll take the DLC any day, if I like something that's going to add value to the game and give me more options permanently moving forward, then I'm happy to support the company and buy the content. The Battlepass was putrid filth and stopped me playing my favourite game; 2K+ hours and Chapter 4 just killed it for me.

I know that other people are going to miss the battle pass but I'm not. Good and bad are 100% subjective. I personally never liked any of the battle pass rewards in Exiles. I never saw anything that I felt was worth grinding for. The battle pass was "bad" IMO as a result. I am really curious what the developers are going to do next to increase player retention. Focusing exclusively on the shop is not going to keep people playing.

@Eradicati0nn5 ай бұрын
Most likely true. From what I understand though, Battle Passes don't really make money, they're mostly for player engagement instead, which is a very valuable metric
@unfalr5 ай бұрын
Battle pass did not make good money, as you say they just reinvest the coins from the first battle pass and so on and its all about making money, so battle pass is not a good investment. And the old stuff in the first battle pass was added in the bazar one time for absurd prices so they are just going to sell the rest of the items in the bazar when the battle pass is over, as I say its all about making money.

Conan Exiles has been a buggy mess to some degree before and since the battle pass. Getting rid of the battle pass wont change anything in that department (imo anyway).
@Eradicati0nn5 ай бұрын
Yeah the game's always had bugs, the problem was just severely exacerbated by the 3 month cycle, mostly. They were trying to do too much with far too little time andresources for that timeframe, so the bugs snowballed way more than they had before
@thorsforge29055 ай бұрын
They are going to flat out make more money by removing the Battle Pass. Things like the building pieces you got from the Battle pass will now be in the Bazaar and will cost what a whole Battle pass costed at a minimum. Instead of getting 2 sets of armor, multiple placeables and multiple building pieces for a whole 1200 crom coins.
@Eradicati0nn5 ай бұрын
I doubt the battle pass was really making money anyway, it's a tool for player retention, not profit. Building pieces only showed up in two of seven passes, but armor will mostly come from the Bazaar now, unless they plan on adding more armor that is free to earn in-game, like the new Khitan Slaver set from the Headhunter event

I genuinely fear that the removal of the battle pass will be a death knell to my regular Conan Exiles play, as it was one of the main driving forces to bring me back into the game, every age, and I was always eager to see what the offerings were for each age, and the challenges forced me to go explore places I'd long ear marked as uninteresting again, only to find some cool new secret or environmental storytelling. Now, with it's removal, I genuinely am not sure what would actually bring me back? Especially if they simply recycle old events. all of which I've already played through. Of course I understand that as a game company, they need those artists to move on to Dune, which I am genuinely eagerly expecting, but I cannot help but be a little sad at the loss of the battle pass and by it's demise, the slow fall of the game for me. Also, the battle pass items did -not- generally cause all the bugs in the game. Sure, some individual items may have been shoddily implemented into the existing framework, but all the battle pass items were, were simply art assets with -very- light implementation. The people crafting those assets are almost certainly not the people doing the playtesting, let alone bug fixing, and it frustrates me to no end to have that old lie still being pushed by content creators. Battle passes in pretty much all games have a two-fold purpose, to keep the artists employed even after the game at large is finished, and for player retention. Naturally the added income is nice, but as Eradicati0n puts it, it is unlikely to be a massive source of income in comparison to the items in the store. But to believe that they will still use the same amount of artist work to generate free assets for events is ludicrously short sighted statement as there is zero reason to do it, other than for player retention and that is not very valuable at all, especially when Dune is very close to coming out, which will very likely drain most Conan players at least initially. So all the end of the battle pass does is make sure that they might grace their most loyal players with a crumb or two from the table, but the rest of the effort that is not filtered into Dune is going straight to the shop, and that, that breaks my heart a little, because I genuinely enjoyed my returns to Conan with each age.
@Eradicati0nn5 ай бұрын
I presume the idea is to devote the saved time, at least in part, to producing actual gameplay content that is worth doing and brings people back, rather than trying to lure them back with a battle pass they can complete in a week. Good value as it was, it probably wasn't the healthiest way to encourage people to play Conan if the only thing they were playing for was to get battle pass levels No artists are being moved to Dune though. Dune and Conan are completely separate: imgur.com/ltbGL35

Mmmmhhh I don't think battlepass would have taken resources from debug and optimization, that's a problem exiles always had even before battlepass... the game is a bug mess, funcom need to monetize, and they want to do it as fast as possible... I don't think the next chapters without battlepass will make things better, the bounty hunt re/release has been another lazy move developers for example and the fact ages now will be released every six months don't think will change anything... we'll see.
@Eradicati0nn5 ай бұрын
It definitely would have taken some resources, but also the devs and artists freed up can now work on permanent content. Extra devs & dev time especially should help to further develop content and send it to QA in a better state, and that plus the freed up QA time should help deliver that content without game breaking bugs, ideally I definitely don't think the Headhunter release is lazy though. It was always going to return at some point, and it includes a slew of new rewards, and costs & rewards have been rebalanced. Had it been a straight re-release for a major chapter update it'd definitely be lazy, but improved & rebalanced in a mid-season update is a much more appropriate place for events, especially returning ones imo
@nicolapellegrino10725 ай бұрын
@Eradicati0nn I love this game... simply it seems developers want to leave it behind prioritizing on new projects, but they don't understand how much potential this game still has and that's sad. About bounty hunting i partially agree with you, adding new free contents is good and well accepted but that's a feature removed and reintroduced, nothing new... I hope next age will make a leap backward and bring back sorcery and new powerful spells and rituals... people are asking for a new map and new dungeons from months I hope funcom will hear the community...

Thanks for the video Mate. Unfortunately, I have been with Funcom since Age of Conan and The Secret World and I know one thing, there will be no Battlepass with free items (if someone has 1200 CC properly), but there will still be bugs and unfinished content. We can fill our heads with dreams, but years pass and there is still no improvement. Why should I believe that Funcom is doing what it does for gamers this time? Through lack of communication, carelessness and greed, they have made us lose our trust and, to put even more nails in the coffin, they play by changing the colors of existing things and repeating the same thing over and over again, like Witch Hunt. I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm right, we just lost something that many were waiting for (Battlepass) and in return we got promises of nothing.

The DLC system wasn't providing enough funding to develop free-for-all features at a faster pace, which was the reason for moving to the Ages system in the first place. Battlepass was bad because FOMO -- it's mostly going to be artists creating content for it. 3D modellers and texture artists, unless Funcom was so incompetent it was putting QA testers and programmers to work creating battlepass content. When 3D modellers and texture artists are being redistributed elsewhere, it's going to be into creating more weapons, armours, decos and blocks. The anxiety that they're being put to bazaar content is a fair one, as before the BP and Bazaar Funcom were exceptionally reluctant about putting new outfits/deco/etc into the game for free. Before the Age of Sorcery update, what was the last free new model put into the base game? What was it before the Wine Cellar and Warmaker's sanctuary? And let's not forget the old, consumer-friendly DLC model was abandoned in favour of this horseshit, of the overpriced bazaar. I'm glad the BP is gone, but it's because the BP is predatory as shit. Their bazaar is still predatory, but when you're poor you at least know something you like will be coming back *eventually*.

How about releasing less EXPENSIVE BAZAAR ITEMS and leaving the battle pass if they dont have time? oh yeah... THEIR PROFIT would be gone... The bazaar was content to work on to make no profit since people used to complete it and get their money back. Wich means they are throwing the free content into the trash, now launching updates every 6 months instead of 3... In my country, if you cannot follow the rythm, you hire more developers... instead of deleting the only good prized cosmetic content. Before all of this you used to pay 10 dollars for a full set of themed arquitecture, with 3 armors (light meduim and heavy) and lot of more things like saddles, weapons, decorations etc. They are turning it into a full profit system where they give you 3 saddles for 15$... We all should stop buying funcom bazaar content until they relax a bit and lower their exagerated prizes

battle pass sucked ass just because if you weren't a slave to this game (pun intended) there were no way to get stuff you missed at season 1 or whatever....and other than few good items included, most of the rewards are crap anyway. like million emotes, or those freaking trebuchet balls. why ? I mean to grind one level just to get stuff you will not even want to bother to salvage, is beyond me. now - if they were obtainable after battle pass was done....that would be other story, but since this game is only a money grab excuse for a finished game, no thank you! No game deserved a bigger boycott than this piece of unfinished s....also mate, i never took you for that naive until now. you think they will finally give us something good? nah man. they will just stuff bazaar with cr@p and harvest this until there are no more sheep to play this game...or until dune is released :)
