Here's the thing though. The F1 community absolutely gave him a second chance. After he came back and won Macau twice, he was keeping his head down and getting the job done, and the F1 community ABSOLUTELY started warming up to him again. I know, I followed it, I saw the reactions and I myself was looking forward to a redemption arc. And then Mick Schumacher happened. As Ticktum needed to win the 2018 F3 season to get enough SL points to race for Toro Rosso in 2019, Mick's sudden surge in performance started to bring out the worst in his personality. He started to make not-so-subtle accusations that Mick was cheating, and when people started calling him out on it, he and his girlfriend started replying to critics on Instagram, accusing them of having "tiny dicks". He then went on to Asian F3 Winter Series, which ran during the first few months of 2019, before the F1 season started. There, he came in saying that he was "only there for the super license points" and that he "was above that level". He got destroyed, throwing temper tantrums along the way and storming off during podium celebrations, and dropped out of the series after a few rounds. After that, he was put in Super Formula, at Team Mugen which nearly won the driver's championship in 2017 with Gasly. Again, he got spanked, and after dropping to 15th in the standings, he was sacked by Team Mugen. He then blamed his team for his lack of performance. His teammate, Naoki Yamamoto, went on to win the driver's championship while Team Mugen itself ended up second in the team standings, not helped in any way by Ticktum's performance. Joe Saward also alluded to an off-track incident between Ticktum and a Team Mugen engineer which led to his sacking and subsequent dismissal from the Red Bull academy. So yeah, not exactly a case of "people still hung up on his past misdeeds". He's added plenty to that list through his pathetic display of unsportsmanship during his 2018 F3 season and subsequent Asian F3 campaign.

I still remember the blistering sulk he threw after being taken out at the start of an F2 race despite the fact he'd taken a driver out under almost identical circumstances the race before. And that one clip in the video of him in Baku screaming about how he didn't cause anything? Yeah, everyone but Dan is pretty sure he wiped out two other cars in a very predictable, avoidable accident. Dan has caused a lot of accidents and shouldn't be quite so quick to complain when he's the victim of them.

Another thought - the fact that he was dropped from two junior programs makes me think that he's toxic inside the team as well. And that's what is unacceptable. Listen to Lewis - after every win he's all "Thank you to the team, to the guys, thank you so much, you're the best". The team just loves it. Schumi could be an asshole on the track, but he was an inspiring leader inside the team. No team wants a toxic to the team piece of shit inside of it.

Being a good F1 driver isnt just about being able to drive quick. It also means being able to work well within a team. Remember that F1 isnt a solo sport, but a team sport. Given how Ticktum is so misbehaved on the open radio, imagine how he must be behind the scenes with the team. IMO, he keeps getting dropped because he is difficult and unpleasant to work with.

Dan once explained why he crashed into Collard (on some podcast, can't remember which) and honesty I kinda understood him? Especially considering that he was a kid. Dan is a very straight forward fella who is obviously bothered by the unfairness of the sport (and that's fair). To be honest, he really didn't lie about Latifi. Latifi is far from being a very charismatic driver. However, there should be some grace and professionalism in public. Too bad for Dan.

I'm actually his fan. Love his honesty (when he's not crossing the line between being drily honest and disrespectful) and interesing character. There were times when I was one of those who hated him with full force, because that's what media showed about him. Being childish, immature and dangerous. While he's much more than that, upsetting to see his achievements and slowly improving maturity usually are pushed to the sidelines, not showing the full picture of him as a racing driver/person. Ngl for his Latifi comment he deserves to be kicked in the arse and he needs to learn from all the critics he has got since then otherwise I can't see any change he's making into F1, sadly. Also I believe Williams weren't the best in managing him. The lack of support they had towards him this season. He wasn't even on the website, being announced super late and apart from one single birthday post they didn't share anything about him. I understand that he's a controversial driver to say the least but they knew it from the start. It seems to me that Dan didn't get along well with the new leadership at Williams and they wanted him out (obviously he helped this case with stupid takes..). He was highly the best junior driver in the academy, the closest who could've made it to F1. The only thing he needed was (still is imo) a little PR training to make him more presentable and stops him to say dumb statements. Don't understand why it didn't happen if he was a potential possibility for the seat. Disappointing really that even tho he showed progress in his attitude on track (especially compared to last season), apart from the Baku crash+team radio he wasn't in any trouble all season long, yet Williams decided to let him go after his best weekend so far. Majority of the fans only see his flaws and because of his past actions being blinded to believe that he's actually a great and very talented driver. Also judging him by his team radios... hm those people probably don't have access to other drivers' radios... Everyone is and will always be complaining on it. Plus the double standards of finding Yuki's messages (which are mostly very rude) on the radio funny but dragging Dan for the same is just simply ridiculous. I truly think with help and support Williams could've changed him in the eye of media and fans but I guess realising him from the academy was easier than putting a little effort in the whole business (that's why I'm very salty about junior academies. They're not working the way they should be...). Even tho I'm a supporter of him, I admit he's very stupid and dumb sometimes and has to be on top of those to help his career forward. In my opinion, doesn't matter how damn talented you are. There is a certain threshold of bullshit people can take. There are blinding amounts of money in play at this level of sports. Also signing a driver to a seat means you will also have to work WITH them and if the driver has a mental state and intelligence of a prepubescent teenager then it is just not going to happen. Kind of the same with Verstappen in his first year in F1 but even he wasn't THAT dumb and thankfully has changed his ways.
