If I recall correctly, Indy, Ontario, and Pocono made up the Indy Car “Triple Crown” in the 1970s.

Vandoorne was incredibly underrated, sadly he had to race two of the worst McLarens ever seen. Very clean driver as well, watch 2018 crashes and you’ll rarely see him

Formula E is where I first heard of Nyck De Vries as I'm a regular viewer of the sport over the last decade. And him winning the 2020-2021 FE World Title was a slap to F1. Seeing inexperienced drivers on the F1 grid with deep pockets for years when genuine talent was given no chance is the reason I watch FE and WEC over F1.

Imas also has The mustang challenge, Porsche Carrera cup, mx5 cup, and Lamborghini super trefeo. IMSA doesn't get the respect it deserves. The amount of classes and different championships is flipping awesome. Highly suggest the mx-5 cup. It's seriously some of the best wheel to wheel racing you'll ever see.

Switch over to Formula E, bro. Hi, I'm an F1 viewer from the early 2000s. I completely feel you; spoken the truth about the decay of the sport. The sports always was about glitz, social media hype, rather than the actual racing in the past at times, but it's worst now when you bring people who have no knowledge of racing be advertisers. When F1 tried to cater to an audience like that, they've lost it. People tend to forget sports isn't scripted. The Formula E Unplugged documentary series is far better and free to watch on their KZbin channel. It's raw, unscripted and the producers let the sport play out itself. The organizers care about the necessity of competitive racing; no pay drivers and the electric cars are built for overtaking. The results? This 2024 season saw 8 different winners in 14 races. You can relive the 2012 F1 moment here. Plus, it's more friendlier to viewers.

They sound even better in person. Also, the Indy 500 should be on the bucket list of any motorsports fan. Ive seen lots of different types of racing but none of it comes close to the 500

Unless it has changed in the last couple of years, iRacing just isn't a financially modest enough outlay for me, and working my way up the ladder, buying tracks and cars, is why I quit. I wish it wasn't so. I ran IndyCar in rFactor and had a lot of fun, but I don't know if that or rFactor are viable options anymore. Sure wish the solo game had come out. Was it only going to be for consoles or would it have run on a PC too?

I definitely agree with you on the Ovals. One thing that really sets Indycar apart from F1 or Nascar is are the top speeds. Lacking any big ovals other then Indy takes away the opportunity to showcase one of the things that makes the sport so special. As a fan and an Indianapolis native, I'm really hoping they get this figured out. I'm not sure what it would take (Andretti getting in on partial series ownership?), and I'm really hoping the new deal with Fox sports is a net positive, but only time will tell.

Not sure why the Michigan 500 start crash is seen as such a big deal to everyone... only because Fernandez screwed up the start. I remember watching the race that day and just thought... well what an idiot... and moved on :-D btw... We were watching CART over here in europe for the super racing and the drivers. IRL had nothing for us when the split happened.

At the start of this century, Eurosport aired every main motorsport event. I loved Champcar and IRL way way better than F1. Better tracks, more on track action. Everyone who is watching DTS think F1 is about the on going b**** fight between Wolff and Horner. Or the, kind of lame (trying to be provocing) attitude of Brown. I think no one has any real interest in watching a race. But there is a simple test for that: Ask if they can mention the driver who finished fourth, fifth of sixth. I think they would fail.... Too bad it is very hard in Europe to find any other Indycar race that is broadcasted live, other than the Indy 500.

I would imagine the massively increased popularity of F1 in the US (thanks largely to DTS) is going to push an increased interest in IndyCar. a lot of fans who tune into F1 don’t seem to understand that it is a constructor series and/or they don’t appreciate that aspect of it - and I can’t imagine somebody preferring F1 to IndyCar if they’re not into that side of it. I love F1. I love the racing, I love the cars, and I love that there is so much that goes into making a team and a driver successful, I love that it’s not a spec series, that different cars have different strengths and weaknesses, and how that makes a difference at various circuits, and in the hands of different drivers, and how the teams adapt the cars to different circuits and develop the cars as the season progresses. I don’t watch IndyCar nearly as much, but I do enjoy watching it because there is more close wheel to wheel racing, more battles, more overtaking - but I don’t find it as interesting because they’re all driving the same car that never changes (and yes, I do know that there are actually some differences between cars and they do have different set ups for different tracks, but it’s not the same as the differences you see in F1). So if a person is more interested in those battles and doesn’t really care about the technical developments, why on earth would they be watching F1 and not IndyCar? Tl;dr there are an awful lot of people watching F1 and whingeing about the lack of overtakes, etc., who should be very easy for IndyCar to win over if they can just get their attention for long enough.

The last time I was still interested in a full season of F1, the cars had V10s (a million times better than the overrated V8s) and there was a genuine title fight between Schumacher, Montoya and Raikkonen. IndyCar and WEC are far more enticing, exciting and enthralling these days than I can genuinely believe F1 could possibly be

It's the month of May again, time to get excited about The Brickyard again. I've got my checkered flag with the indy logo hanging out in front of the house for the month. I'm getting excited for Kyle Larson this year. He might be the best chance ever with a legit shot to win 'The Double'. Even McLaren have been able to get out of their own way recently, which is cause for optimism.
