What makes Ed top tier is his unrealistic range on his normals. Because he essentially has "wind" strike normals, it exponentially lengthens his hit percentage and counter situations, which he can then convert to DR to then carry a good distance away from him. It really comes down to that. With all of his abilities, if you took away his "wind" strike range from his normals, he would be way less on power level overall.

It's not just his range, it's more the fact Ed has the ability to convert basically every hit into really good oki and he rarely needs to DRC for that. And in situations where you do DRC, Ed gets premium access to safejumps anywhere on the screen.

"Wind strike normals?" Are you high? Almost all of his flicker normals have 2 active frames and extend his hurtbox throughout their range. A few months ago everyone was complaining about how punishable he is. Now suddenly no more, just because a Korean and a Japanese player are extremely skilled? 🤣 In a few months everyone will be punishing them consistently and the comments section will demand buffs.

I love Ed, im doing really well with him online just abusing 3 things: corner carry, on block damage to drive gauge, and his amazing cr.lk. However he has 2 major weakness, his gameplan is particularly susceptible to Drive Impact (yes, he can play the mental game with that, but its still there) and he just crumble versus good jab pressure. Cammy matchup is a nightmare if the rival knows how to jab properly for example. Delay buttons and jabs mixup make him suffer a lot. Another thing to point is that, while he is not an easy character to use mid screen (i mean, he is no dumb as Bison or Akuma) he is super easy to user while cornering the rival. His corner pressure may be the easiest of the game after maybe Ken (and im not sure).

Flicker is bullshit, shouldn’t be able to control that much space while also having option to cancel out to set traps. Also reward for use is silly, huge reward on hit and maintain offense on block.

His walk speed is also above average so he has an easier time setting up his pressure or avoiding yours. He has faster than shoto walkspeed, compared to "similar" midrange button characters like AKI or Manon who have lower than average, not to mention actual zoners who are even slower. Imo walkspeed is one of the unmentioned sources of DLC powercreep, Ed Akuma and Bison all have better walkspeed than most of the cast. Rashid is slower but it's Rashid, Terry is even faster than Ed but he's doing his best rn.

I agree. I have Ed as a top 4 in my tier listing. I mainly play on the asia server with Ryu. More or less everyone agrees here that Ed's flicker is broken and needs to be nerfed, badly.

Ed is just above average imo. He has really good tools but the lack of an overhead and slow af dp is enough to ground him.

Ed is definitely stacked, but I don't see him as the best character in the game. He lacks an overhead, meh anti airs, and isn't autopiloty. Otherwise, he gets good oki everytime he touches you, great normals, and has good SAs across the board. His jabs are also lackluster. Overall, he's top five, but not the best.

I beat Ed more often than Akuma, as well. Then again, I'm an Aki in Master rank and I know for a fact that Akuma just mauls me if their fundamentals are solid, more often than not.

I think Akuma and Bison are just overall better but Ed is def top 5 for sure, absurd normals, decent walk speed atleast forward, flicker is a top 1-2 special in the game, amazing oki, very resource efficient, dumb level 2, Ed is absurd
