It’s definitely understandable why people are quitting. There is a lot of stress involved in “needing” an upload to do well. I feel it almost every time I upload. At the end of the day though, KZbin is a blessed job that I’m super grateful for. What I find that helps is if I just accept that videos will perform however they do, and once it’s posted it’s out of my control. I can always make another and if it’s not meant to be then I’ll always find another job. Just knowing you’ll be okay regardless of what happens and taking it easy to not burn out I think is important. 😁

There's another reason, the algorithm was massively changed in July 2022 which affected larger creators way more than anyone else, this channel included. I'm sure it was to allow KZbin to level the playing field for the smaller channels that complained that the bigger channels just always got the views, but what happened was that the huge catalogues of content no longer counted for anything. So, before you would have an ever increasing sub count and view rate, all that stopped overnight - meaning if you had poured your heart and soul into KZbin and made thousands of videos, you could no longer rely on those videos to continue to earn. So you had to work harder than ever just to stay afloat. I have much smaller channels that will make way more views on that channel than if I publish it on this channel, but it's exactly the same video. So a lot more KZbinrs are either going to start totally new channels and rebrand, or quit.
@stingray-5379 ай бұрын
Weird because KZbin had a whole new idea: they stopped recommending my videos. I am a small channel. I will probably quit KZbin this year. I don't think it's the style of the videos because KZbin has been recommending videos with the same style and these ppl would get subs and views faster than me. Kinda weird and unfair honestly. KZbin should recommend bigger *and* smaller channels.

Great video dude! I also think the pandemic played a bigger role in all this than people think. Everyone went online and content creation kinda exploded again. Many creators just put their heads down and focused even harder on the grind because it was working so well. So here is my thoughts on this topic. KZbin back in it golden days was so entertaining. People like sml or pewdiepie were constantly making banger after banger. The reason they were is because KZbin wasn’t as strict on what you could do and say. Now KZbin is destroying content creators and not giving smaller channels a chance. A lot of channels back in the day were 100% for fun and I understand we need to make money to survive but at some point you come to realize now a lot of KZbin is plagued with commentary channels who are nothing but negative. "KZbin is destroying content creators and not giving smaller channels a chance" As a small channel, I agree with you. In november, october or whatever tf that month was of 2023, KZbin in all of a sudden *STOPPED* recommending my videos. Then, I got the views back thanks to the hashtags in the description, but now KZbin barely recommends my videos even with hashtags. One of my videos barely hit 20 views and my other one barely hits 90-100. I used to get 100-2.000 views and 6-100 likes. Now I get 6, then 4 and now 1. Now I get views, but I barely get likes. I think KZbin is trying their best to destroy my channel cuz I have been reported by KZbin Team more than 4 times, some of my videos got copyright claimed and I was forced to remove some of my videos, some of my *oldest* videos got age restricted and I was forced to take them down and now they won't recommend my videos. For those that have either made more money than any god or more than enough to live comfortably for the rest of their lives, it's pretty understandable. Much like any job, it sucks at some point at a consistent basis.

Another reason I think could be cancel culture. It's gotten to the point where some rando on Twitter can accuse you of (p-word), everyone automatically believes them and destroys your career and reputation. It also doesn't help that KZbin promotes channels that repeat these allegations and harassing people. Being a content creator/e-celeb is not a secure position anymore.

It kinda feels like a coincidence more than anything. Like, those 5 examples (Tom, Meat Canyon, Joel, Seth, Antpo) all had a changeup for completely different reasons. If anything Joel Haver is making more stuff then ever before

burnout is a consistent reason
@R15Sammy9 ай бұрын
@@burgermind802 That's kind of reductive. Joel's reason was he wasn't challenged by his format and wanted to do something more ambitious. Hunter's was that he wasn't really passionate about the subjects he was making cartoons about and wanted to change it up. Tom Scott and Anthpo had specific long term goals that they had finally met. And Seth Everman just wanted to do something different.

I think the real reason (or at least part of the reason) is that it's January, which means it's A. a new year and people are reflecting on what they want from life and B. that January's just historically just not a very good month for youtubers, as a lot of companies tend to a expend a lot of January's marketing budget in December for the holidays. Because of that it's a good time to take a break or quit youtube as you'll usually get a revenue boost in December, as companies spend more on ads and people are on holiday and thus watching more, and a revenue drop in January, as companies spend less on ads.

In the span of today, a gaming KZbinr I follow named Moo Snuckel quit KZbin and left the internet to detach and have a “real job” A zoo owning youtuber I follow named Brian Barczyk quit because his disease went terminal. And a game dev I follow (name is in a different language my keyboard can’t type) abandoned a passion project along with their channel earlier this day. WHY THE HELL DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING DURING BREAKS AND NOT DURING NORMAL TIMES?!

as someone who quit and unquit KZbin several times, I think the takeaway here is that this site needs to stay as just a hobby for some people instead of relying on it for rent money. also upload schedules work well for starting out, but every KZbinr needs to abandon it eventually to stay sane in the long run

Personally, my main problem with KZbin is that your audience can be so impatient, that if you spend the necessary amount of time on a video then upload it, not many people are going to watch it, because you took too long and they forgot about you, but if you just try to upload as much videos as possible every week or so, your content's quality becomes very poor. So I don't know, maybe it's just me who's slow with making videos. *And the KZbin algorithm is a pain.*

The only way to succeed on social media now is either to be a literal corporation or be so different from everyone else that you can't be replicated You gotta plan all the stuff out before you even turn on the camera, if I ever decide to create content again that will be what I do, and it will probably be on some other site.

I feel it too. On my channel I'm even being told rather frequently by my subscribers that KZbin has been automatically unsubscribing them without their knowledge. They find one of my videos and they're like, "WOW, I was so glad to see that you're back making videos, but then I looked and saw that you never stopped, KZbin just unsubbed me without my knowing. Glad to be back!" I get that all the time. I have NO IDEA why doing things like this helps KZbins bottom line, but I presume it must because they're doing it all the time to me and a few others I know of too.

It’s not just trying to keep up with whatever the algorithm likes, and what the fans want, it’s also trying to keep up with yourself. Even if you are the most successful KZbinr ever, you still need some time for your body to rest and heal. I’m hoping that the algorithm is fixed in the future that way we don’t have to lose sleep, relationships, and the things life throws at us, just so we can make a living and force ourselves to meet expectations or follow the metas.

This is from a way more passionate perspective than the business or money side of it, but here are my thoughts that I'd like to add: From my experience making art in various mediums, I've found that the idea of reaching a mastery (or confidence) in something (a technique or medium) and then doing it over and over for a long time doesn't have you staying the same like I imagine people assume it will. What instead happens is that you stagnate. (read as: You don't "stay the same," you stagnate.) Artists enjoy learning and growing, and if their current medium isn't engaging them anymore, then switching to a new medium can allow them to learn a whole new array of skills from the beginning again. And it's that process that artists can find joy in.
@LetsGoChaseThatTrain9 ай бұрын
I agree with you up to a point, but I think that in the three years since this channel has gone live, the quality of my videos has improved noticeably.
@Katy1339 ай бұрын
@@LetsGoChaseThatTrain Oh yes. I didn't mean in terms of your channel, just any channel. And in the sense of the feeling of not growing, rather than what amount of time passes, that can feel disheartening. Artists learn and grow at different speeds, and I don't think it should be treated like a race or a contest. If a creator spends years honing in on a subject, and they enjoy it and feel that they've improved in that time, then that's not stagnation. That's finding value and joy in the process. I hope you continue to find happiness in your projects the same way it brings happiness to the people who see it.
