Good on you for doing these. I think you have a unique niche among the full-time KZbinrs in that you boot-strapped yourself and show these entry level tools. There are way too many folks who have dream shops that intimidate regular folks. My shop now has some significant investment in it, but I started with entry level tools and learned a lot. Nice to see someone who uses some Festool also discussing these entry level options and is honest with findings.

Good job with this video, Matt 👍👏 Just like when you review and recommend Ryobi for value ... I'm now in the Dewalt, Bosch, and Milwaukee range of tools, I too started out on basic tools like this B&D ...

I got my orbital sander from Harbor Freight (the Bauer) when I first started out and I’m still using it! The dust collection is meh but with my shop vac, it works great and it’s variable speed!

Im pretty sure Black and Decker, Stanley Fatmax and DeWalt are all made by the same company. I found out when I sent my Stanley cordless sander back for repair and it went to a DeWalt service centre.

Even with a bare bones sander everything about a sanding project will be better if it's hooked up to a vacuum. There's at least 5 good reasons using a vacuum is a really good idea.

I’ve had 3 of these in the last 12 months. Second one lasted a week, last one only survived 18 hours. Bought a dewalt and it lasted a year before it needed new brushes. The B&D also vibrates way worse in the hand than the DW. 🤷‍♂️

On a regular basis, the Bauer orbital at Harbor Freight is $19.99. I have a couple of them. Had no problems. And it is variable speed. Hooked up to my dust collector or a shop vac, it clears dust pretty well. For a hobbyer, it's hard to beat.

I have the 125/3 and love it. I was a Porter Cable fan but was starting to have tingling in my hand from the vibration. There is no vibration with the Festool and it stops instantly. I have it connected to a Festool dust extractor and there is virtually no dust. It’s a lot of money but if you do a lot of sanding it’s worth it.

I don't know why they'd lie and say everyone is buying this sander? I didn't buy one, my dad didn't buy one, my mom didn't buy one, my brother didn't buy one, my uncle, who is dead, never bought one, my friend never bought one... As a matter of fact.... I don't anyone who bought one... Besides Black n Decker sucks .. anything I've ever bought from Black n Decker has sucked.. I'm old enough to remember when Black n Decker was a great product but now adays it's just a name... Probably made in China now. Anyways.. I wouldn't touch it with a 39 and 1/2 foot pole.

Had one, it lasted about a year, did a decent job for what I needed it for/what I used it for. However the vibrations through the handle limited the amount of time I could use it. Gloves helped, but hand pain is not a great experience. Not nearly the same issue with my Bosch.

Save your money and just get a good 1/4 sheet orbital sander, it doesn't require you buy special sand paper and can get into corners. I own four of them, three Dewalt, and one older Black and Decker that I've had for decades. Anything you save buying the cheaper Black and Decker homeowners model will soon be made up buying the more expensive sandpaper it requires.

It sells so well because it's so inexpensive and it just works. For the average hobbyist like myself, there's really no need to spend $80-100 or much much more for a sander we might use a few times a month. I've had mine for 2 or 3 years and it works great. When it dies, I'll probably buy the same one again. You are right though, definitely hook up to a shop vac. My little Stanley 1 gal vac hooks right up to it and cuts way down on dust.
