hahahahaha Edit: just so people are aware, I'm 100% pro-Wordle selling to NYT. He doesn't owe anyone anything. It's just funny when people think "oh finally, something millions of us can play and there's no ads or product placement". Internet doesn't work that way, unfortunately. Someone has to pay to make this all happen.

I think it's a great way to make your vocabulary more versatile, because you have to creatively think of words. It's also both small enough to be played casually and big enough to not just be a cookie clicker, perfect for the subway or a lunchbreak

I disagree… for starters the words are limited to five letters and then your guesses are limited by your correct letters from your first guess. Lastly the answers are generally common words like “favor.”

I bet it generates the word using the date on your phone as a seed so it probably doesn't have any server bill. If you have it, try changing the date on your phone and see if the word of the day changes. Not everything needs to be online connected. The most elegant designs are the simplest ones.

If you have 3 greens, it shouldn't be too hard to get, but with more limited info, it does make sense to make a word that you know isn't the answer just to gather more info. For example, if you put the word plate as your first, and nothing is yellow or green, and then thoft as your second, and h and o are yellow, then putting the word horde is reasonable for a casual player wanting more info, even though it can't be the correct word, since e was gray in the first word plate.

So basically Wordle is like Lingo, a Dutch game show where you guess words by spelling it out. If a letter is in the correct spot it turns orange, if a letter is in the word but not in the correct spot it will turn yellow. So on so forth. It used to be crazy populair in the Netherlands until it was cancelled.

@Andrei Salvaleon Unless there’s another variant of the mastermind board game, then the mastermind board game is nowhere close to being as difficult as Wordle. There’s only seven different options for making a code in mastermind (six colours and an empty space), you can identify all the pieces that appear at least once in the code within your first two guesses. I’ve actually play tested mastermind and found that with the strategy listed above, it’s almost impossible to ever exceed 4 guesses in order to crack the code.

Here in Cuba we play a variant of this, but with numbers and it's call caws and bulls, in the sense of if you guess a correct number in an incorrect position is a caw, and if it's in the right position is a bull, I think the level of difficulty is somewhere similar as well 'casuse while it's true you only have 0-9 characters for each position instead of the whole alphabet you don't take into account the cohesion, 'cause number could be random, words you now after some letters is likely to be .... etc, number for each position should nor repeat and must be a 5+ figures number
