As someone who has to deal with coworkers talking about absolutely nothing but sports and bets 5 days a week, I'd rather not see it in the FGC. People probably take gambling less seriously as an addiction because there aren't the immediately obvious physical symptoms associated with it and they always assume it could never happen to them. Actually just had one of said coworkers go to a gambling treatment facility about 2 months ago after his wife "suggested" it.

I've seen how people talk to athletes online in regards to losing their bets. It would be unhealthy for a much smaller community where players are more engaged with fans. SF6 was an incredible game at launch, years and years ahead of where SFV was at launch. However, we're a year and a half in now, and I'm not really liking the progress. System mechanics that people were complaining about at launch are mostly untouched, there's a concerning lack of character costumes and stages being added, and (although this is highly subjective) I'm not really liking the DLC characters for the most part. SFV, even at the end of its life, was not a perfect game. However, its roster is awesome, it has tons of costumes and stages, and it's become a lot fresher in the time we've been playing SF6 (no throw loops or drive rush lol). I think the disappointment in SF6's live service support is partially what's fueling this renewed interest in SFV.

I don't see the issue with having more EVOs, although it would be nice if they were more locally branded. The negative side of EVOs is that it's very US-centric. I know it's fine for you guys in the US but for everyone else it means expensive travel, accomodation and visa pain, things which have just gotten worse with time. Too many local EVOs could be an issue tho. Would be neat if it could move every few years but that's probably too much to work on for the organisers....

Hardcore tekken 8 fan and player here. The game is in a precarious state right now due to a good handful of characters having VERY strong moves / gameplans to where it becomes simply too much to think about, or very hard to play against. This leads to more stress. Also, with Clive's release he has F1+2, a safe mid that tracks if the opponent sidesteps in either direction and reaches from a very far distance. This along with his mix-up potential with his stance phoenix shift and other strong tools, makes him a very strong character that is easy to play. In his current state many high level players and the community as a whole agree that he is a top tier character. Obviously, this issue compounded on top of everyone expecting tifa or a better announcement then Clive has the community in a unhappy state. This recent Clive release along with certain characters being too strong and system mechanics such as certain heat engagers being punishable without heat, but safe AND plus with heat (heat dash) has the tekken community unhappy with the product and are waiting for the next balance patch, with hopeful thoughts that it addresses a lot of the issues with the game at the moment. Essentially, if the next few patches / updates are lackluster the game could see a drastic decline in the player base. I personally do not think that will happen given the Tekken dev team previous patches / updates.

This comment is too late but I 100% disagree with the switch to the convention center. I don’t think I speak for just myself when I say that seeing EVO Grand Finals in person is a main factor in traveling for the tournament - the hype, the excitement and the energy of the room is key. Not only was it a shit show getting into the venue which absolutely killed the hype, the finals stage was not up to the prestige of the event. Seating sucked, viewing angles sucked, having to stand in line hours in advance to get in to the finals stage was a horrible way to spend my time in a weekend, there were only two restrooms, no re-entry, shitty food with long lines. Yes the actual convention space was larger but i just think that the EVO organizers aren’t the best at maintaining the influx of new attendees. Don’t back down Brian! You were right and it needs to be addressed. We need to go back to Mandalay. The fact that we still don’t have an official location is telling that the convention center was a bad move.

To be perfectly frank I get there’s an entire denomination of players that are like “SF6 is the best SF in years” but while I enjoy SF6 to a point I do not enjoy it nearly as much as I did SFV by the time it was in Championship Edition (I’m one of the crazies that actually had fun with SFV since its launch actually) and for sure not as much as Ultra SF4. Personally I would rather have crush counter and/or focus attack than DI, DR and the corner being so highly explosive with the game’s mechanics. People say there’s more skill involved in SF6 than even 5 but tbh I still see 6 as riding this wave of “make the game accessible”. The corner for example has been and will always be a bad spot to be in fighting games. However Drive Impact is “anyone can do it” easy with a single button press and you have multiple hits of armor and a crumple or stun in the corner AND it’s safe. Focus attack in 4 was similar but better imo where you had to charge FA 3 levels or get a clean counter hit in order to get a crumple. If you wanted to FADC to make it safe on block you had to spend meter. It wasn’t as free and you had to pick your spots. Also easier to react to. I get that ppl will tell you DI is “easy” to react to if you buffer but I feel like for the average player. I would actually easily rather have crush counter in 6 than DI. As a guy who’s hit Master with a few characters I would say SF6 for me really does feel like a big guessing game compared to the previous 3 entries im acquainted with (3S, 4 and 5). That’s not to say randomness hasn’t existed in every SF game or fighting games in general to varying degrees but usually imo it’s a problem character(s) with exploitable weaknesses that are really putting you in the blender. In SF6 I feel like the game mechanics themselves help the game feel easier for a less skilled player to beat a skilled player and more RNG across the board which I’m really not a fan of. I don’t really struggle in SF6 but I’m not having as much fun with it as I did the first month. I’ve had to completely change the way I play footsies and approach space management in this game in large part to DI (and maybe I have slow reactions but it is what it is, I can’t be the only one). Corner is like twice as oppressive as it is in any other fighting game because you are one wrong button press (or conversely your opponent is one correct single, armored button press) away from death or crumple into a sequence that will kill you/start the universal guessing game into death. I don’t want to poo poo SF6 as it’s a solid entry but I still don’t get the hype behind it. It does feel incredibly random and easier to get beat in for guessing wrong. I liked the whole drive system at launch but like I’ve grown to feel like while creative, has steered this game in a direction I just find mad cumbersome and chore to play at times.

would have been cool if they added the version select for characters after they retired the game like USF4 and hyper2 in SFV

No. The first Dune (the novel) would be impossible to condense into a single feature length film. Properly, at least. That bish is, like, 1000 pages! LoL

I didnt like SFV when it first launched so stopped playing it mid way through S1. Then played from S3 onwards and enjoyed the game so much. That kind of gives me cope cause I dont like SF6 haha
