Another point I can add to this: he also has really good meterless damage, or at least he gets good damage without needing to spend drive. He has some combo routes that use an EX move instead of a drive rush cancel into level 3 and they do the same amount of damage as the cash-out combos of some other characters while spending less. For example, on punish counter, he can do cr. hp > heavy jinrai > EX dragonlash > level 3 and it will do the same amount of damage as a full cash-out from someone like Cammy or Juri that requires 6 bars for the DR cancels. You could argue that shotos are meant to do more damage than rushdowns, but even Ryu and Akuma still have to spend on DR cancels to get over 5k damage. Ken can do it with just an EX move extension. His corner carry BnBs also take basically no resources to do, and in a game like Sf6 where the resource war is a huge part of the gameplay, this is a pretty big deal. Bison is considered top-tier for this exact reason. The fact that Ken has all the things you listed PLUS the ability to win the drive gauge war just drives the point home.
@shaunmcisaac7823 күн бұрын
Not sure what you mean on the 5k barrier. With level 3 and OD? Akuma gets to 6k off (Whatever) -> OD Adamant -> B HK -> Fireball -> LP DP -> Lvl3 and that's not even fully optimal, just simple. Or are you saying without Super at all? If so genuinely curious what the exact combo is.
@ChiitanMcCampbell3 күн бұрын
@LuigiG145 You're actually crazy. Do you know that Ken's MAX damage on level 3 requires a punish counter 8HK or Punish counter KK>MP overhead to START with, THEN it REQUIRES a during one of the DRC so you can get 3 Drive Rush Cancels, and even then the max (without critical art) is like barely scratching the high 6100s. There are a dozen characters that can get easy 7500 damage combos on punish counter without ANY mircrowalks. You don't know what you're talking about. Ken's max damage is actually not even in the top 10 or 15 in the cast. Also, I've extensively labbed all of his meterless but using OD combos and the max you can get is like 5800. No where CLOSE to like half the cast's cash out level 3s. Actually I'm gonna boot up right now and prove you're crazy for thinking something so asinine. ... And we're done. Your suggested Ken EX dragonlash combo/ 5150 on PC. That's nothing, yet it's like 80% of ken's MAX combo damage period without critical art (which all characters have). Terry can get that much with a maxxed out level 2 off of a single HP hitconfirm and shit. And then AKUMA:
@ChiitanMcCampbell3 күн бұрын
@LuigiG145 Also, you're just completely insane. Your combo? it's 5150 with one OD move and no drive rush. Okay, well how about Akuma? Punish counter Heavy "hashugeki" (whatever Akuma's version is called), so PC 236 HP > cr. HP xx OD Tatsu > Light DP xx Level 3. Wanna guess how much damage that does, without even optimizing? As in I'm a master rank Ken, and have never played akuma in a match. But in 10 seconds, juming into training mode to prove how stupid this comment is, and instantly did that combo, and it does *5500 damage!* 5500. Off of a much easier combo, INFINITELY easier than your 5150 Ken combo. Also cammy and Juri doing a full cashout into Level 3 does FAR more damage than 5150. You're just FLAT-OUT lying. Stop lying, it's gross. Stop spreading misinformation, you're everything wrong with the FGC. I'm not a Ken downplayer in the slightest, I think he's top 5 all day long. And he was top 2 or 3 before that. But you don't need to make up false information that's easily refutable to try and get your point across. It's so annyoing. You know Ken's max damage without Punish counter. It's like 5735 and requires a full cashout into level 3. His max damage cashout combo without a microwalk is 5900, and it requires a punish counter tatsu which is so rare to ever get. Stop lying.

Ps: one thing I’ve never been able to wrap my head around when it comes to Ken is how he’s able (in some combos) to do TWO crouching light punches and still link into standing medium punch. That just breaks all logic of the game. Maybe one counter light into a medium would be normal but two? And he does this after a special…..not just directly off counter hit. How the F is that allowed?

Also, H dragonlash isn't annoying by itself. It's the fact that he has an advancing plus move _on top_ of all the other nonsense. It's one of the few special moves that are actually great from a Drive Rush because it messes up most check options from other characters and still retains your turn even if they don't bite. Being +5 on burnout is also just as silly, even if Ken can't exactly make an infinite blockstring out of it like Aki or Cammy can.

This move, when viewed in isolation, isn't particularly powerful. Its strength lies in the fact that it is wielded by Ken, a super soldier.
@computervision5572 күн бұрын
The most terrifying thing about this move is that it's given to Ken, an all-rounder fighter with outstanding footsies and attack capabilities. No matter how strong Akuma is, we can still take him down in two combos. Ryu, despite his power, can't suddenly close the gap from long range to pressure you. Luke, by Season 2, has become the most honest character among the shoto fighters-aside from solid neutral play, he has nothing else. And Terry... 😔, his neutral game falls short compared to other shoto, and his unga-bunga potential falls behind Ken. He's purely a fan-service character.

You can ask him why Ken isn't the best shoto when literally no other shoto sees as much tournament play as him, and maybe even combined. He'll tell you "But Ryu does more damage." or "But Akuma walks faster." 7 frame actually has a mathematical reason why it's so good, there are a lot of moves that are presumed safe because they are -3, what's 7-3? what's the fastest possible button's start up frame that doesn't even reach when competing with that 7 frame more than half the time?

Thanks, Broski. All those people who couldn't fathom why Ken is way better than Ryu in SF6. Well.... There you go. Ryu players have to work pretty darn hard to defeat a strong Ken player, and that hasn't changed since the game release. The privileges Ken has are insane. I still cannot believe how Capcom hasn't resolved it yet via nerfing.

I’m fairly new and have spent a bit of time on Ken. I actually really appreciate this video. Didn’t realize how I have been under utilizing so many tools. Thanks man 🙏🏼 Edit: you got me good with: Ken, not even once! 😂😂

At 15:00 what you explain is literally a built in part of SNK type super motions. Some old instruction book I read even said "As you do the Ranbu you are blocking so you can hit moves that are still recovering after you block" or something. Wild.

Broski demonstrates how good a character is. I pick them up as a secondary. I get to gold with them. I hit a wall. Broski posts a new video. Repeat ad infinitum.

14:40 I am a strong supporter of the idea that "teabagging does not exist." Obviously, somebody came up with it, and a lot of people choose to run with it, so it exists in that sense, but what I mean by the phrase is that you should not acknowledge it in the middle of a match. It is better to assume they are buffering something, because the action of teabagging has meant other things for a lot longer than it has been used as a taunt. Obviously, buffering supers is one thing, but in 3S spamming down parry attempts also looks like teabagging. Assuming that they are buffering something also takes your mind away from the "he's taunting me! I'll show him!" mentality that is going to make you run straight into something stupid, which is obviously exactly what they want. Most of all, if you are a one and done off of a potential misunderstanding, that's just kinda tragic, because you are walking away mad when the other person was just trying to play the game. I have had people message me after games saying I shouldn't teabag, only to watch the replay and either have no idea what they are talking about, or be like, "oh, I was obviously buffering a DP or super there." I don't teabag, and whether you like to teabag or not, I am just putting it out there that it may be better to assume that what you are seeing is not what you think. This has been my PSA against acknowledging teabagging, have a good day.

13:40 I had to pause here to say this. Yes, you probably should not be bannering this for the world to see. However, so far your analysis is showcasing how Ken is the perfect character for gaining a well-rounded understanding of how to win in SF6. I think this will particularly apply to people like me who are hard-stuck at intermediate level of play.

Dragonlash has some pretty nasty tricks if you have your opponent down in the corner. If you press a button it’s a frame trap, if you block Ken is plus 1. You lose either way.

Could you please do one for Cammy as well? 🙂

I will say that something Dragonlash is pretty good at is baiting drive rush checks. If you think your opponent will check your drive rush you can do drive rush dragonlash and hop over their button for a punish counter. Ken is obviously not the only character with this, but there's not many in the cast who do and it's just one more damn thing to be on the lookout for. He can make you afraid of checking him.

I was playing against my friend last night with Ken and when I warmed up and stopped trying to spam Run Tatsu, I was about 3 Jabs away from a Quadruple Perfect. Run Stop Throw is devious.

Hi Broski. I'm a relative noob to the FGC/SF6 and just wanted to say thank you for making this straightforward and explanatory video. It was helpful to have stuff like this explained in a way I could understand. Does the lack of Jamie in the representation graph you showed mean they're not viable as a tournament character right now? Is there a video somewhere that also explains why?

A way to fix a lot of this would simply be to leave the hitbox of shoto punches up (as it should be). Its just fkn ridiculous to kick low and get punched in the face by a movement whose animation is clearly not touching you. It's already busted as it is, why does it have to defeat logic as well?
