It seems like every generation challenges the status quo of the generation before it and then ends up realizing there's a reason that status quo exists. I'm a first year Gen X. I watched the Boomers as a kid go through the same thing in their own way. Sex, drugs and Rock and Roll gave way to "Just say no." My generation grew up in the middle of the AIDS epidemic, so we were a little subdued because of that, but Millennials came along and went through the same growing pains. What's different about Gen Z, is that they got to that point a lot quicker. I believe, not just `social media' but online life in general contributed to that. The major difference between when I was kid and now, is the internet. There's no doubt about it. Just me posting this comment, even if no one reads it, is night and day over what was possible when I was 20. It has proven itself to be an incredibly sharp double edged sword.

The concern would be if the lack of action was a corollary of anxiety disorders, or that you'll have broader social effects like observed in Japan with hikikomori and soshoku danshi. The concern from older people is that gen z are - rather than dealing in conformity/rebellion or conservatism/liberalism - demonstrating large-scale dysfunction.

that's the whole thing though... we grew up without the internet, in the "real world". Gen Z has been using ipads and smartphones since they were old enough to crawl. It has had a profound impact on their entire development as human beings.

It's the porn. I'm 25 and I'll say it right here: me and my husband liberated ourselves from our addiction (I started at 11, he at 9) and it saved our marriage. Together since 17 and quit porn at 23. We look at each other with desire again and we lost our wandering eyes. Neither of us cheated, but the willingness to drool over others caused friction, not to mention the side effect of a dead bedroom. I pray to God nothing ever happens to him because I don't think I'd ever be able to find another man willing to only come to me for his needs.

"There is no better way to live" sounds like the motto of trying to survive post-2019 economy. there *IS NO* better way to live, no matter how you try to live it just sucks and you can't ever make any progress towards a better quality-of-life. You do nothing but eat, sleep, and work, and you're perpetually hungry, tired, and broke. there's literally no way to win, every aspect of the system is rigged against you to rob you of any of Life's Joys. the more you try to do things the right way, the way you're _supposed_ to, the more you dig your own grave; while people who broke the rules get ahead, find success, and actually get to move on. just kill me now and be done with it.

I'm a millennial and I can still recall my friends suddenly being obsessed with having sex and their first time and all that crap and asking me when I was going to find someone and 'do that'. And me calmly telling them that my interest is not in sex, but in finding a partner. And if someone's focus is sex they would not be the right person for me. I waited until I was 27 and am still with the same man today at 41. It wasn't a specific religious principle or fear that necessarily made me feel the way I did. Rather, it was knowing who I was and how I felt about certain things. A man (person, in general) can come and go at any time of their choosing. The person you can never outrun is yourself. So, I view it as wise to never do something that would knowingly make ME be disappointed in me.

Hookup culture is dumb and unsafe, I don't personally like the idea if, "hey I just met you let's do this thing" took me almost a year to get comfortable enough with my now ex to have that kind of relationship and even then it was tenuous and we weren't used to it at first. Ended up getting her pregnant (we used condom/birth control) we just happened to be really unlucky, and she was told both her and baby would die in childbirth so we got the abortion. We break up a couple months later and 3 weeks later she's hooking up with another guy already. It's just stupid and has honestly just turned me off of relationships in general

They basically just hung out when they got to know each other, sometimes not even just the two of them, but with friends. They got married without much ceremony and my mother never even had a ring. They're probably the most peaceful, stable couple I've ever seen, and they followed basically _zero_ of the typical "mating rituals" of the modern age. Gen x doesn't understand why as a generation, we don't delight in debauchery. It's why companies like Dave and Buster's exist, we prefer to recapture our obliterated innocence than get plastered and nurse a hangover. Same goes for sex scenes, if I wanted to watch porn, I would. It doesn't need to be forced into every ad, show, and movie. It's readily available, and some of us have had enough. As a genZ (2004) honestly I don't understand why people are so invested in our sexual lives. I think the leaving hookup culture behind is good, even if it's not for the right reasons. I never liked sexual scenes in media, and I find it very weird how important people make them out to be. I've seen it especially in books lately. Now it's difficult to pick up a popular new release ya book that doesn't have explicit sex scenes in it. I'm a virgin and I don't plan to lose my virginity until I get married, and a lot of people, especially older, look at me weird because of that

I would think it’s a good thing that most people my age aren’t having sex. That means they are less likely to get pregnant too early and then have an abortion because they didn’t think it through. What if you’re an (actual) Christian, and cant have Sex until after Marriage?
@jessekimxx
@jessekimxx Жыл бұрын
@@Salibascored with reverence and respect for God on the cross, you choose not to have sex because of your faith and relationship with Christ. In Christianity, God teaches us that sex always opens up unholy and unfortunate soul ties to those you sleep with, and at times there are unclean spirits that come through sex through an unbeliever. It's important to choose the right marriage partner who has been cleansed in the blood and has asked God to deliver them of all principalities, and who has thoroughly cut their soul ties and forgiven others before beginning a relationship with them, especially a sexual relationship. Unclean spirits can be transferred through toxic relationships and cause spiritual bondage, this happens most commonly through casual sex. Some people end up wondering why their lives changed for the worse after meeting someone and sleeping with them; that is an example of an unclean spirit being transferred through sex. Women get raped and aside from their mental trauma, they begin to feel like an entity has taken over the identity wheel in their life, they lose all control and don't recognize themselves even though they had it together before. This is another example of unclean spirits being transferred from a rapxst (a rapxst has obviously lost control of their life due to principality spirits, just as an example, these unclean spirits may enter due to watching porn and using weed.) forcefully put into a victim through rape (rape is considered to be sexual witchcraft), and the victim suffers spiritually and is scared they have gone mentally insane due to their identity being erased by the unclean spirit. Some rape victims without knowing it, begin to take on the same unholy activities as their rapist did due to the transfer of an unclean spirit, except it will be worse than if their rapist did weed and porn; the rape victim may become hypersexual because of the hurt & may begin a lifestyle of hard drugs, even though they had a detailed, organized, and put-together life before. This is an example of how an unclean spirit enters a man through portals (weed and porn usage), if the man ends up committing sexual witchcraft, the unclean spirit enters the rape victim and she becomes hypersexual (a coping mechanism to get control back), then all the people she casually sleeps thereafter will have the unclean spirit enter them, and possibly make their productivity go down, and they feel like their life has been changed for the worse ("I haven't been the same since I slept with that random girl, my productivity is gone, it left with her"). Be MINDFUL of unclean spirits if you meet a woman who admits she has been raped, she may need deliverance ministry, so be considerate of her spiritual state; unclean spirits will ruin your life and change your identity, this is what happens to rape victims. Unclean spirits change your identity, usually into the person who transferred it into you. The transfer can happen through the deceit of an enemy that you believed, through trauma, sexual witchcraft, sin portals (that you willingly opened like weed and porn), and through casual sex with strangers (human agents influenced by unclean spirits). Some people don't understand the concept of unclean spirits. If a bad taste in the mouth happens around you, then the unclean spirit is the identity change that happens within you; you have an overwhelming fear that you are not the person you were before and you'll never get that identity back. This unclean spirit is just an illusion projected over the poor victim & can just be removed with deliverance ministry in Jesus Christ. HIS blood was emptied and poured out in full representing the forgiveness Jesus has toward us, and HIS blood has the power to separate us from principality spirits that were forced upon us, or we opened ourselves up to willingly. And because HE forgave us much, we are healed and delivered in Jesus. Through HIS example, we are able to forgive/love our enemies the way Jesus did, so they can get delivered and separated from principality spirits as well! Going down with the principality spirits is not worth going to hell for! Especially when Jesus, YAHSHUA paid the bride price with HIS life to separate us from them! Amen.

@@Salibascored I'm a Christian. Sex was part of God's good creation. Nowhere does the Bible portrays sexuality itself as sinful or dirty. We have no reason to feel guilty about our sexual drives. Second, the Bible commands self-control (1 Corinthians 9:24-27; 2 Peter 1:6). Don't let the desires of your flesh overcome you but overcome the desires of your flesh with discipline and wisdom. And that is applicable for everything. To make it short, discipline your mind. When you stop focusing on God, there comes sinful thoughts that lead to sin. It's not easy. But nothing is easy in life.

Obviously, you're right, they're not abstaining because they want to, but out of fear of becoming parents; although I am glad they've realised that's the only real way. I myself am a older Gen Z, and I was raised quite traditionally by boomer parents who were also raised very traditionally. So the value of family, integrity, responsibility, honor, humility, and duty runs pretty deep, along with a dash of chivalry, courtesy of my mom. That all under the teachings of the Lord. So more often than not I find myself at odds with Gen Z *and* Millenials, because I'm kind of a boomer soul, to the point I can't physically keep on with most trends, I'm always behind or out of the loop, and at some point I stopped trying to. Even just a few years ago it wasn't this bad - granted, I was still in high school then and while there's a lot of meaningless sex there, everyone's a bit younger and most people aren't super experienced so it seemed to trend closer to casual dating and relationships before sex got involved. Where do I have to go to just meet a normal guy - nowadays dating apps are for sex, going to bars is for sex, nightclubs, parties, etc. etc. etc. It's too much and it's going to leave our whole generation so deeply scarred in years to come.

I'm an older millennial. I think the view/perspective of Boomers and even Gen-X is a bit romanticized. My generation and the ones before mine were hooking up, it was that social media wasn't around. People, especially women were much more discreet. Also, dating apps weren't a thing until my late 20s. The swipe phenomenon further commodified the dating market. As it pertains to adult entertainment, that's more of an issue of both technology(access) and premium television going away from soft core. When I was in my teens(90s), we had shows like Red Shoe Diaries and Love Street. They showed nudity and sex but no genitals. It was much more romantic, had simple plots and introspection from the characters. Even Matt LeBlanc was on the first season of Red Shoe Diaries before he got the role on Friends. In film and television a "graphic" sex scene can add to the story and plot, look at Basic Instinct and the first season of Game of Thrones. Overall, I think parents need to have more balanced and in-depth conversations about sex with their own respective teens/young adult offspring. Not just whether or not to have sex and when, but to give them the tools to understand the meaning behind their choices to sleep with someone and what their specific actions during sex might mean. Years ago, the porn industry came out with a PSA telling parents to teach their kids about sex before they do.

@@KainBooks Can't see what the other guy posted (thanks KZbin), but your explanation is just cynical. What changed between ancient and modern societies, is that we decided to forgo casual sex as acceptable and vigorously promoted child-bearing marriages. That explains the shift between the pre-modern "I don't care" to the modern "I do care" attitude, generally.

I am ashamed to be apart of "Gen Z". My fiancé and I are both 21 born in 02 and don't fit in with almost anything my generation does. We both have our own cars, we just moved into our 3rd apartment together, we are on top of bills and insurance all on our own, and we both have pretty decent career style jobs. We feel pretty put together in the modern world but seeing our friends from high school and seeing online the state of most people in our generation it is just sad. I try to not claim to be apart of Gen Z because of how embarrassed I am of the cultural decisions they all tend to make. It is nice to see and know that there are still good people our age out there trying to get life done the right way.

Another side to that coin is that more and more people my age are becoming Christians and becoming more traditional. The third, kind of a sub-reason of the previous, is that more and more men specifically are buying into “the red pill” and not having sex with promiscuous women, becoming higher value, and self improving In short, people are realizing porn is bad, people are becoming Christians, and most women in this generation aren’t wives anymore and men are waking up

Tbh the only ones saying that they find it creepy are women. And it kind of irritates me since it really seems like women slap the label of "creepy," whatever that means, to anything that makes them slightly uncomfortable in the moment. I'm gen z and I think it's because the older generations remember what it was like to be our age and question why we aren't exacty like they were, but at the same time, there were just different external circumstances around them that allowed them to be a bit more promiscuous. Basically they're doing the same thing that older generations always do to younger generations about everything. "oh back in my day, we actually went outside and rode bikes and stuff. all you do is play video games and stay in your room!" The fact that they're doing it to our sex lives too isn't especially unique, or different, or creepy. Stop labeling every little thing creepy

Yes, precisely. Look at what we've taught men and women to think of each other: To Women we say: Every man is a rapist. All he wants is to fuck you and forget you. And he's a chauvinistic twerp who would put a dog collar on your neck and have you walking on all four in front of his friends if he could. You're a strong independent woman. You don't need no stinking man. He's not worth your time. You're better off without him. And the truth is that a human newborn and an albatross have at least one similarity: their essentially a noose around your neck. To men we say: Stop looking at her, creepo. Quick. Stop now. She'll see you. And if you're a student she'll get you expelled. And why wouldn't she. Everything about you is toxic, worthless poison. The very testosterone that makes you different from her is a disease. Look at how pathetic you are, unable to sit still in class. How worthless you are, not worthy of scraping dishes at the McDonalds. Oh, you got past thump. Well, now that you have money your "betters" want you. But only for a night, or until they can find a way to strip away all you've earned for their own leisure when they find someone better. And kids. Forget about kids. You're a man, you're not supposed to care about anyone or anything. It's gross. The entire freaking lot of it is gross. People hear all of this shit day in and day out, they breathe it in directly or indirectly without realizing it. And they compartmentalize the idea that the other gender is thinking the same things that they are and are plotting in accordance. And then we wonder why people are avoiding each other? What else are they going to do when everyone, man or woman, thinks the opposite gender are a bunch of psychopaths out to rip the throat of the opposite gender at any given opportunity. It's incredibly sad.

My uncle died in a car crash which made my mom, his sister, take a different outlook on driving. So, I drive very responsibly and take stock on my surroundings often while driving. The reason that I said it was strange to me when people didn't get there licenses at 16 is more based on my area, there are almost no options for public transit so people have uber, lyft or hope they can get a ride from a friend or a coworker. Basically don't feel bad that you don't have it but understand that it is a freedom and a privilege, but it's also a big responsibility and it can be stressful. I’m 27 and don’t drive. I live right next to everything I need. I actually live across the street from a grocery store, a bank, a cvs, a family dollar and, McDonald’s. I wouldn’t say that I’m in need of a car. Also a car is expensive. From the car itself, the gas, the insurance, the maintenance. I’m on a fixed income and, owning a car would only drag me down further into poverty. I also feel like everyone needs to start walking. The obesity epidemic is rampant and, I keep seeing more and more beached whales behind the wheel nowadays. Where I live, nobody walks but me. You’ll see a 10 mile line for the McDonald’s drive through, but you won’t see a soul taking a walk.

Another problem with some people of my generation, Gen Z: they're too lazy to change themselves. "LoVe YoUrSeLf" they use as an excuse to stay just the way they are. No, accept: accept that not only are you flawed, but you can also change those flaws. Accept the change - welcome it - because most of the time it's an opportunity. Of course, you should love and compliment every good quality about yourself, but don't neglect the opportunity to improve yourself as a person. Don't forget that you can ALWAYS do better.

The healthy attitude toward the "Hays Code" stuff is something like "you can include any or all of these things in your art, but make sure you're doing it because there's a genuine need to include those things, and not just for the sake of including them". The issue is that the pendulum swung from "these things are taboo", to "you can include these things if you have a good reason", to "you can include these things just because you want to", to "if you don't include these things you're a prude". It's the same basic pendulum overswing that afflicts every aspect of our culture. We went from traditional values ruling the culture with an iron fist, to people being understanding of the occasional need for exceptions, to the exceptions being normalized, to the exceptions being glorified, to the original traditional values being vilified.

I wasn’t one for sex even up to when I was a young adult. I’m in the very last of the millennials. I just didn’t have interest in casual sex, no politics anymore. My boomer parents were mad that I wasn’t out getting laid in college. I only really wanted it more after I started seriously dating my husband, and exclusively with him. I’m female, so I knew I could get anyone I wanted if I so chose-I just wasn’t interested. Relationships with people in general are deeper and more stable when sex is off the table. I’m pretty happy for these youngsters taking time to be more selective of their partners.

I'm sixteen, and I'm not driving yet because I am a twin, and car insurance is way too expensive for my parents to afford for both of us. Plus, my father is working hard to get my Italian citizenship recognized, and that's taking up some of our savings. I'm also focusing on my studies and plan on getting a job once I graduate, so there really isn't a place I need to go where my parents can't drive me until then. I do want to drive, but it's not really a priority for me right now, especially with gas prices so ridiculously high.

There's so many reasons people aren't having sex these days. My last relationship pretty much broke me and I haven't had a relationship or been intimate in a decade. It just feels that there's absolutely no one anywhere near me that have my same interests or values. More than likely, all the compatible people are introverted, and staying away from everyone else, the same as I am. 😅

Brett, one facet you didn't mention is the decreasing hormonal sex drive in young men in recent years as well. I don't remember the exact percentage but average rates of testosterone in males within certain age ranges have dropped a LOT. And that could be due to many things, from the food they eat to the increase in childhood shots to the overabundance of chemicals used in everyday life. Yeah, there's a significant social aspect but I think the physical health aspect is important, too. It's the same reason why so many women have fertility issues.

Pop in any 80s movie. I recommend lost boys. Look at the men and the women. Their skinny right ? Of course they are. Obesity has hit us hard as F. I believe it’s the food and testosterone. But also, if men don’t find women attractive, nothing will spark.
@Jml15

This ^^^ I also think this impacts who women find attractive, as we are not going to be attracted to unhealthy men. With the dropping testosterone levels, more and more men get grouped into the unhealthy group.
