Issue is that people in India mostly consider cleaning as inferior work or work that is least appreciated. Homes are mostly cleaned by elder women in home or servent. Even at home it is ok to make the place dirty for some else to clean. At home someone does it as there is no other option. Outside no one does it and Government does not have the resources or will to clean as it is not rewarding and people have to take effort to not make the place dirty. I am struggling to educate my kids to do it, but is loosing. I am unable to impose penalties at home, but expect Gov to impose penalty. Maybe rewarding would work.

China, England and for that matter most countries have areas which are as dirty as India's Difference is that while dirty places constitute less than 10% the rest 90% are clean & neat. As an Indian citizen that constructive criticism is much needed. Urban planning will improve our cities such as people-friendly roads, sidewalks, less car centric areas and more public transit facilities. And also all is not in the hands of govt. as people need to take initiatives, cooperate and support the govt. as residents of Indore did to keep things clean, not spit pan masala as that is ill-mannered, and overall police others who tarnish our country’s cities like that... Both Mentality of people and funds by Govt. will improve the quality of life in our cities #SwachhBharatAbhiyan #PublicHealth

@@TigerWang1101 Your constructive criticism is valid, valuable and will be considered when planning for Cities of the future in India… We will purchase and adopt the best, most sustainable urban planning practices and or waste disposal recycling technology from the world no matter how expensive whether Japan or Europe but when developing our existing and future newer cities and projects we will have to adopt to the best, carbon zero, and 3R practices. Which is what we need to implement and improve on and eventually it will have to happen there is no point delaying that because we have seen the results of bad urban planning, mismanagement of finances for good urbanism and just a lot less awareness amongst people as well… However, the power of internet will take all the best and most sustainable practices of urban planning to create a more conducive, fostering and accessible environment for all its citizens. India can build good cities that are organized such as:- Chandigarh Gurgaon Noida Bangalore City of Delhi is very old to begin with. It was like that even before british. It was depopulated several times by huns, ghurids, timur and nader shah throughout the centuries. Take out the slums in mumbai, it will become another new york. There are billionaire realtors waiting for those slums to vanish to build skyscrapers in it's place Goa can be developed into something like las vegas or sao paulo, given the beaches and landscape it offers New city named amaravati is getting constructed now. India is embroiled with corruption, and s&itty politicians who would create hindrances in every path of its development. Indian parliament is as equivalent as an african parliament, where politicians don't convene for the betterment of its people but to use that venue for verbal arguments to gain silly political mileage causing upheaval in the legislative processes.

Stating organized chaos isn't the solution to the problem. At least sympathy works for the people and government of India that tourists haven't published dirtiness that goes around every parts of India on social media. Let's not compare the dirtiness of other countries, rather try to resolve the dirt of own country. This perception might be helpful to drive forward attitude of every nationals to make the country clean. Keep the motive clear and teach others and influence other by act how to clean the environment rather than comparing the dirt of other countries. The dirt of other countries don't last for long and are very minimal in degree to the dirt the India has. 70% of the surface water is polluted in India. There is a higher degree of dirtiness in restaurants, shops, rivers, and railways in India.
In other coutries you can find garbage in cities; in India you cities in garbage.

Dear sir! You did intellectualize a problem which is pretty much our second nature😂 India is chaos period! And that admission should be the start point of fixing it. Swatch bharat was "half baked" as it did not solve the issues end to end.. it provided excellent optics for the government, yet made little long standing changes on the ground. The problem is this: utter lack of necessary infrastructure for waste collection, disposal and/or recycling. The second part is the citizen responsibility of segregation, cooperating with standardized collection etc. The government used entire media machinary to fix the citizens end of responsibilities without doing anything about the civic / local bodies end. The result is that we are as trashy as we were in 2014, probably worse.

Nice video essay. I agree with the analysis that "organised chaos" is just indiscipline. People should be made more aware along with government investment in waste management and urban planning. But in my opinion another huge problem in India is that "Government is too big" so its hard to keep them also accountable for issues. Government is involved in everything in India from running businesses (PSU's), buying agricultural produce, affirmative action/reservation , etc. A small government is more efficient government, also less possibility of corruption is number of ministries are less, and less ministries mean public officials can also be paid good so that they don't have to rely on corruption to make a living. Government should be limited to only these ministries mainly: - Ministry of Finance - Ministry of Defence - Ministry of Home Affairs - Ministry of Education - Ministry of Health - Ministry of Trade and Industry - Ministry of Transport - Ministry of National Development - Ministry of Manpower - Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Ministry of Communications and Information - Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources - Ministry of Social and Family Development - Ministry of Law - Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth - Ministry of Forest

It’s too bad that India is allowed to degrade to such a level. Individual pride as citizens will be a start, but the government has to have the resolve to lead the way by ensuring all levels of governing bodies are accountable. Corruption has to be tackled seriously so that the average citizen don’t perceive that some privileged people can easily get away with wrong doing. Cleaning up is the responsibility of everyone not just because the old caste system delegated it to the ‘untouchables’. Wishing India to its deserved greatness in the future.

I think as an Indian telling others are dirty doesn't make India cleaner. On the other hand teaching Children in primary classes cleanliness who in turn can also teach their parents cleanliness would definitely help. That is the only way the country will become clean. We on the other hand teach them STEM subjects and problem solving. But does not provide them infrastructure to put their learning in practice. So they leave and India remains what it already is a failure.
