According to Playstore, over 5000 users have downloaded Solo, so as an Android user I'm honestly disappointed to not have an update after two years or so. Besides, in this update there is still not chord drones or edit custom changes (two of the most requested features).
@DaveDurango11 ай бұрын
Very disappointed. Maybe sales would be better if they actually advertised their product on KZbin. I think it's been 2 years since they've made a video about it? I could be wrong. I just don't understand why they don't use the Solo channel to do daily or multiple uploads per week. They could film a months worth in a day. Just playing through changes or quickly running through programs on the app. Perfect for shorts.
@rodolfoamaralguitar10 ай бұрын
@@DaveDurango The truth is that we Android users have paid the same for the app as iOS users and we have been left aside. So far we have not received any solution or alternative, such as the possibility of changing our current Android license to iOS (not even a discount coupon). The only thing I know right now is that if I want to use the new version I have to (apart from buying an Apple device) spend 18 euros again (which I honestly don't plan to do).

I love Solo, such a great app. What would be amazing for a future version would be, in the chord changes section, to have the option to make the app play a drone of the root note of the current chord. There might be an issue with the mic picking up the sound from the speaker, but if you set the volume correctly it shouldn't be a problem.
@icarusi10 ай бұрын
I've always used the whole/half interval system for diatonic modes, so apart from the multiple note intervals, I'm always thinking in an interval based system. I was recently considering what are the fewest notes, of any diatonic mode, need to be played before its mode is defined. I think it was 5-6. You need the octave notes plus the 2 halftone intervals. If the halftone is next to either octave note, 5 notes will suffice. I think it will also work for melodic and harmonic minor scales & modes. If there's other than a 2 or 3 wholetone intervals between 2 halftone intervals then you're no longer in diatonic scales. A single wholetone between the halftones and you're in melodic minor + modes, and 1.5 wholetones for harmonic minor. More than 4 whotones in a row (or sequence using those intervals) you're out of melodic minor and in wholetone scales, more than one HWH interval sequence in an octave and you're out melodic minor + modes and into HWH multiples, repeat HW and exotica!

This sounds great, I love the philosophy of this system you’re presenting. I remember learning about intervalic functions back in my college days but I was never able to apply it to the fretboard and can 100% relate to the frustration you’re referring to! So I’m keen to check out the course and the app! In my context I’m playing pretty much entirely diatonic pop/rock stuff. I assume the course and app will be great for that? I know it will cover a lot of jazz and non-diatonic stuff so I’m just curious if they would be a bit overkill for my context. Perhaps the concepts alone are worth the price of admission!

Hey Tom, dissapointing that you've dropped support for the Android version. Is it purely that there's not just enough of a return vs the cost of development? Have you considered partnered with other popular guitarist channels on like Rick Beato, Paul Davids or Nik Nocturnal to showcase Solo? I feel like there's a pretty large untapped audience of people outside your circle that would love the app/course. I found out about you from my Dad who already has a wealth of knowledge on many guitarists that he shares with me out there but not everyone has my Dad. I hope you consider it because your teachings deserve to be seen by more people and hopefully Android users could have a bit more of a chance if it proves to be successful. Appreciate you sharing what you have with us either way.

If you transcribe by ear, with time your eyes matches your ears and you learn all of that naturally, i don't understand why on youtube there is so many lessons on visualizing the fretboard and so little on transcribing by ear. ( i don't mean to critisize anyone). Maybe i am missing something that i don't see?
@menamgamg11 ай бұрын
I always transcribed everything i learn myself, so for me with improv it was more natural to take the samd kind of approach but really it's also because of a lack of another option. Kind of trying to learn to connect myself to the instrument so it becomes like singing.. so i can improvise and play melodically but i still dont know what in doing because im just using all the shapes as a map basically and nothing else. The way i see it, if i can understand the harmonical context of every single note im playing that would open up tons of possibility of experimentation to consciously focus on certain note choices i find interesting which would help develop my ear to intuitively play those notes as well.
@adrienblancke482611 ай бұрын
But I don’t see how you can transcribe by ear and not consequently realize and see the intervals that you are playing and their relation to the root.Oooh wait I understand now it is because I did a lot of interval ear training on the instrument that I had this knowledge even before I started to transcribe by ear, I guess you can call it two points system. I get it now but still I think there’s always a big risk of emphasizing to much an app like this without talking a lot about transcribing by ear , which ends in a very mental, calculating way of improvising where playing the chords changing becomes more important than playing what you hear. That’s what the huge difference between a guy like Guthrie govan for ex and a lot of jazz/fusion improvisers. For a lot of them when they improvise, it sounds way to mental and not enough comes from what they hear…
@menamgamg11 ай бұрын
Yeah that's exactly it i think! Ive played for a long time and im technically very advanced but never knew even basic theory stuff until the last 2 years or so. Ive recently realized the importance of practicing hearing intervals and being able to identify them by ear, but it's very difficult for me even though i can transcribe pretty much anything. It's two completely different things and it's just another one of those things where i have to start from scratch and feel like a total beginner who knows nothing lol.. Ofc i have a big advantage already and will probably learn fast, but still been a bit overwhelmed with learning all that but i'm going to try to make it a daily habit to practice it.
