wow, i remember voting for scishow psych for which type of channel you should make. i was thrilled when you all decided on psych, and now just as sad to see it go. this channel has enriched my life and meant a lot to me. i would have liked to hear more about why, it feels very abrupt.

This channel has never been nearly as popular as the main channel, and perhaps after 5 years it has not become the money maker they'd hoped for. Only they know for sure though.

Thank you so much for all your work. I'll miss this channel very much. In part, it was thanks to content from this channel that I got into neuroscience so much that I plan to pursue it as my second major besides physics. I'll be looking forward to enjoying all the content over in the main channel, but SciShow Psych will keep a special place in my heart 💜

Wow, has it really been 5 years already? Feels like just yesterday there was the vote on what topic to cover for a new channel. I'm sad to see the end of SciShow Psych but I guess it just didn't grow enough to become self-sustaining. I think I recall hearing somewhere Brit moved away from Missoula so that may have been a factor as well. Thank you to Hank, Brit, Anthony, and everyone else on the Complexly team that made this a wonderful 5 years. You've taught me a lot and I look forward to new episodes on psychology topics on the main channel. DFTBA ✌️

This is and will be my favorite SciShow branch ever! Discovering you all through 2 Teachers, (Scishow only) from High School, and bringing that curiosity home to discover the treasure trove of academics the KZbin Algorithm has curated from your channels presence. Psych, Space, Show, and more- all of them digital lexicons on The Evolution of Knowledge. I'll miss all of the wonderful faces. Thank you all for being apart of the success in my Life.

Our Sir used to say "When you can't decide what the right decision is - JUST TAKE THE DECISION AND MAKE IT RIGHT!" But every time I take a decision, the 'other one' that I did not took turns out to be right P.S. Gonna miss this channel though, it had a dedicated community that followed it. Anyways posting all the future videos on SciShow makes more sense as it's 6 Million+ subscribers will provide more reach to the videos. HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS!

The specific plan approach might work with cigarette packaging labeling regulation. Many countries mandate the packaging to have scary pictures of lung cancer or messages that cigarettes cause cancer, but maybe having specific action items on how the buyer could stop or reduce smoking today would be more effective.

I have found it transformative to my life to try to lean more and more into not allowing my brain the time to processes decisions and just taking SOME kind of action. Practicing mindfulness watching myself in the present moment choosing to do the action maybe even while my brain is screaming at me to stop and think about it more. It's freeing.

I like Canada's in between system for organ donation. Whenever you renew your license or health card, they ask you. So you have to answer the question either way and neither option is inaction. It also means you have affirmative consent for everyone who's registered. Our registration rat is 43% which is in between.

This is imo why visualization is important in order to get something done. If you cant even think of a concrete action plan, even if flawed or tentative, it is much harder to get the motivation to do the first step.

The study about the demographic rates of organ donators as a function of the state making each citizen a donor by default or not makes me think of a marketing strategy employed by, among others, accommodation companies. When booking a place you are told that you will have days or even weeks during which you can change your mind and get a full refund. What invariably happens to me is that I make the reservation thinking I might cancel it later on, but I never do!

I think that the problem is not deciding to become an organ donor, but plucking up the courage to make the arrangements. To many people thinking about their own death is something that they prefer not to do, so to actually make an effort about something associated with that is a step that they prefer not to take. Here in the UK that action has been taken from me. I know that, unless I opt out, my organs are available for transplant. Now I am not concerned about thinking about my own mortality; 17 years ago I was given 48 hours to live because I was suffering viral cardiomyopathy. Since then death is something that I have thought about a number of times, so signing up to organ donation should have been easy. However, I still felt that it was a step I could not take, tempting fate and all of that. The reason why people do not opt out is not an inability to make the decision, but unwillingness to think about it, with possibly a slight fear of looking bad if you do opt out.

The reason why "opt-in" is better than "opt-out" is the principle of self-ownership. You can't assume consent, it needs to be expressed. It doesn't matter if we're talking about sex or harvesting organs. It always baffles me when people seem to think that respect for consent is subject to context or consensus rather than an absolute. Everyone needs a government issued id, right? Just make it a routine question when applying or renewing a licence. But being like "buddy didn't say no before he died so we're gonna mutilate his body" has all kinds of problems attached to it. Consent needs to be the line, or else there's no principle preventing you from harvesting the organs of brain dead people, or the terminally ill, or the poor. The second you decide that you have the right to choose for another person, the metrics you use to determine that choice become arbitrary and subjective, and oppression will always ensue.
