I was so glad when I've discovered these videos of you guys. For me, it's always better to learn vocabulary from the context, always from the context, never the words isolated from the rest of the language as a whole. So it worked out pretty good for me, and I think I've been improving well seeing your videos with both languages, English and German altogether. I mean, it's not those big and complex texts. It's short and nice and with interesting themes.

I agree with your thought. Its so beneficial learning words from context. If i understand true, did you learn or learning two languages? I just wanted to say, i know english like b2, but also i'm trying to read, listen etc. Also, i wanted to learn german for get a job and work. Which website or book or other devices are you using for learning german ? Thank you.
@leotgawa
@leotgawa 5 жыл бұрын
I've learned some languages, because I really like it. I think, moreover than any reason you may have in your mind, you have to really like by heart these different systems of languages, and to appreciate them equally. If you really have this pleasure, than things get easier. Otherwise, however, it's hard and exausting. I can't give you some specific material to learn languages, because I use always texts which I have really pleasure reading, and that's it, that's enough. If they're too hard to read, on the other hand, I give up quicklly (that's normal) and start reading these youtube's videos, which probably have some texts of my own level. And they prove to be very good after all, because, as I've said, they're short and concise and precise, with a kind of vocabulary that native speakers commonly use, and with which you can get their meaning simply by getting used with them, exposing yourself to this or that language's world every day or every week. The most important thing is to get into the world of the language. How? I think you'll have to look for something that you personally like.
@interstellar7823

@@leotgawa Thank you for your reply. You tried to explain your reason and your passion why and how you're learning many different types of languages. And if i understand true, your advice is about read, listen and use which i like to do. You're right cause if i try to read or watch something that i'm not pleased then i cannot keep going. But if i'm happy to view, follow and read some article or videos, then the learning process is good for me. I guess i can find article, book, videos which i like to watch, read etc. Then maybe this process can be more efficient and fluent.

I’m happy that finally someone realized that there’s something lacking in the falsh card apps which is learning in context, most of them are just cards with a word and a meaning which doesn’t take you anywhere. I checked the website and it is absolutely practical! Thanks a lot for all you’re doing.

I read another research 'how to keep words in long-time memory' and it simply recommended to review the words 6 times in total and in different days. For example, I use the following method and it really helps: I make a list of words to memorize every day. I try not to exceed 20-25 since it's harder to memorize more every day. Then I read em again for 6 consecutive days. Now I almost reached 5K. P.S: I watched 'each and every episode' of Easy German videos as my #1 vocabulary source :)

Yeah, I'd actually seen some research that compared several spaced repetition algorithms and found that the differences in the spacing had almost no difference in long term retention. So that seemed to indicate the act of reviewing was more important than the specific details. I think the main benefit to increasing the spacing with each review is being able to manage more reviews at once.

There's an App (For Android at least) called AnkiDroid. It's an app that has you quiz yourself on the words, and mark them based on how you feel you did. Words you guess right away get moved to the back of the queue, and words you struggle with come up until you get them right. The guy from "Abroad in Japan" recommended it, and I keep meaning to make it an every day task like I managed to make my Duolingo.

That's correct. I do the same. Everyone who's learning a new language should keep that in mind! From my experience, I can tell you guys that to learn vocab you should learn a useful one. Just look back at your native language and you'll notice how many words you don't know, and yet you're fluent. The reason why you still don't know something is because that thing isn't a part of your daily life.

@@MrCagnacio True, I don't believe you need to know 3,000 words to be fluent. I speak English as my native language. I don't know 3,000 words off the top of my head. Yet somehow, I'm still good at speaking English.

I did 3 summers at a German immersion program in Middlebury, VT. One thing you notice off the bat are peoples strengths and weaknesses in learning a language. My strength in this regard has always been 'aussprache' and accents. Weaknesses were writing papers and getting my 'hausaufgaben' done as well as my ability to use the language properly in the spoken word....grammar. That said I find that typically people or students whose weakness was pronunciation or making the effort to sound German, were amazing at actually speaking the language with virtually perfect grammar. That said its one of the ugliest 'accents' if you will when you hear an American speak German WITH an American accent IMO. Its as if those that sound 'UH-mER-ihcan' make no effor to sound as if they are speaking the language correctly. I can say as a US citizen that we are lazy speakers. Thanks Easy German for all the content you produce to help us learn the language!

There are ways to organize the learning of German words (and the articles along with them), by creating a city in your mind where you can locate the words. This is covered in Dominic O'Brien's book "How To Pass Exams". The idea is that you take the words and put them directly into your long-term memory. I wouldn't say that no review is needed, but this method makes it easier to remember words the first time. I just looked it up on eBay and the O'Brien book starts at $4.25 with free shipping.

Hello Kari! I just purchased Pro Version on Seedlang. You and Jeremy did a great job already. It is really made for user! My only question and suggestion. 1) How often do you add new cards to the content tree? 2) Do you think about creating also a Grammatic tab, where you can see all the German Grammar in a nutshell? Some tests with your approach there as for A1 - B2 level would be also useful :) Thank you! Alex

Das ist ganz wunderbar! Ich verfasste ein paar Tage vorher eine Magisterarbeit über die Online-Möglichkeiten um Fremdsprachen zu verbessern; es wäre super, wenn ich dieses Video schon gesehen hätte (aber klar unmöglich). Wenn ich im Februar meine Thesis erörten werde, 100% werde ich über diese Software sprechen! Danke!!!

OH MY GOD! YES. So i have a memory disorder that is a little complicated to explain but on top of that i have dyslexia and ADHD. All of which effect the side of my brain that process writing, and readings. However i have no issue with math. I'm depressed since i don't have very many friends here in Germany so its hard to focus on learning german to the lvl i want to. But the hardest part is learning Vocabulary so i can understand teachers trying to describe to me the grammer. I find it so frustrating when the teachers go over grammer in vocabulary we never cover and so i get lost easily and can not retain it. This app is going to help me so much! Thank You!

Easy German: I’d be happy to help with that project! I’m a native speaker and a Spanish teacher by training. I’m learning German with Seedlang and with this channel. I love it! John

I think trying to remember verbs is harder for objects. Because if you see an object you sort of remember it but it's harder to remember an action.

Hallo!! Ich bin Sonnenschein Alpha!! Wie gehts?? Well, that's about all I can say when introducing myself. My name is Sunshine Alpha (my online nickname), and I really, really want to learn German. America is my home and I wish to visit Germany one day. German can be a hard language to learn sometimes but I won't give up!! You guys are a very nice channel to watch so I can learn to speak better German, learn more about German culture, and even just to watch for fun! I love your videos!! Ich wünsche dir einen schönen tag/nacht !!

There's Anki for that, same concept/method, it has from beginner to mid advanced in the case of German and English, not to mention it has other languages combinations. It's available for android iOS PC etc. They even have great decks for other things too like medical and law students. Just so you don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Just try Seedlang yourself and you will see the difference :) Jeremy used Anki for a very long time. But it doesn't have videos or any other authentic content. That was one of the reasons why Jeremy started building an own vocab trainer :)

Anki is great for your own studies, but apps like these take it to a whole different level, which is great. But the good thing about Anki is, if you have the time and energy, you don't have to wait for a company to make an app, you simply create your own content with as much media as you like. E.g. I use Anki to study Japanese, by creating cards from music videos
