Well, he said it himself, it's because he's "Made in China". This is not a joke. It is China's system that has been pushing table tennis to another level for all these years.

@@wanzgnah, NBA literally does almost nothing to help the current superstars, European players has better fundamentals on average. US stars has been very good before they got drafted and only train on final polish like more muscles and adaptability to NBA tactics and demands. The foundation has to be there, while Chinese system is all about foundation.

Darwin: the survival of the fittest. This summarizes and gives the answer of your title(and also question). Being the undeniable GOAT in TT history, however, Ma long is not a player with the fastest foot comparing to Ryu Seung Min, his forehand isn't as powerful as Quadri Aruna's, his backhand isn't as powerful as Kreanga's or Adrien Mattenet's, his serve is not so tricky as Jan-Ove Waldner's, his In-Table skill is not so complete as Ma Lin's, his chiquita is not so devilish as Zhang Jike's. Ma long is the best because he has all the techniques to win, and each technique level is above, say, 90~95% overall players. He is the most "complete" player in the skill level. Furthermore, he has the best ability as dissecting his opponent, detecting their weakness and strong points, and choose the best strategy to deal with each kind of opponent's play style. His greatest strong point is: adaptability. He has all the weapons needed to destroy his rival, but he will chose the weapon from his arsenal with particular pertinence. This brings desperate outcome to his opponent.

It suddenly occurred to me that this table tennis selection system may be the same system as China's college entrance examination system. The superb problem-solving ability of Chinese students is beyond the reach of Western students. Isn't this the result of vicious competition among students? It is estimated that those Chinese students studying table tennis have encountered a similar situation. This model selects the best through vicious competition, which is a great blow to all players who have worked hard but are cruelly eliminated.

Malong uses NEO 37 - 38 degree rubber for his backhand. Therefore it has spin but lacks in speed. He is forehand dominant. Besides Hurricane rubbers require big swing to generate speed. With backhand mechanics not easy to do big swings. Unless players have long arms like Ovtcharov (most European). For instance Wang Manyu is backhand dominant with her long arms comparing to her teammates. She got selected for that reason with condition she must improve her forehand attack. You never see Malong doing a backhand whipping because Hurricane rubber. He just basically catching/blocking and brushing forward. DHS sponsors Malong thus his weapon is all DHS.

There are a lot of reasons but one imho very significant is the material and the changes that happened in the last 20 years. Bigger balls, no speed glueing and plastic. So the game was significantly transformed from technical and touch to brute force. And this is something that can be achieved in very hard physical training. The more young players are drilled in that way the higher ther percentage of high level players - which gives China an overwhelming advantage. But as we have seen at the Olympics this advantage is reduced to a minimum as "the rest of the world" learned how to play with extra fast carbon and there are several young players that are just half a step behing Ma Long and FZD. I think we'll see changes in the World Ranking within latest 3 years as Ma Long will retire and there are several young non Chinese players to battle for the throne. Let's see if FZD will be able to keep this pace.

very optimistic I must be honest...the magic of Germany is almost over,so outside of asia there is no real competition in the near future...Japan’s harimoto is talented but not that much to overthrow china...only lee sung has a bit potential to challenge,otherwise it's clear sailing for china... And Ma Long can continue because the next Olympic is only 3 years after...
@meklon5
@meklon5 2 жыл бұрын
@@nihanahmed8996 Well there is Hugo Calderano with potential to grow even stronger and perhaps more stable in big tournaments, there is Darko Jorgic and there are several European players on the rise. Question is if they have the spirit similar to Hungary and Sweden in the 70s to 90s to practise hard enough to beat China. And yes there are great Taipeh, Korean and Japanes players that can be very hard opponents for China. It will turn out in the next two years if Ma Long really tries to qualify to next Olympics. Personally I don't think so. There is already the next generation also in China that is eager to replace Ma Long and for sure also Xu Xin. We have seen this in the Chinese Preparation Tournament before. Additionally the loss of the Gold Mixed was a huge desaster for Xu Xin and especially Liu Shiwen. I thin Liu will retire soon and Xu Xin also has to make place for the young players. And this young generation is not experienced in big international tournaments. China has waited too long to introduce them.
@nihanahmed8996

Hugo is not that good to be honest...And the names you have mentioned relies on a big 'IF'...that's why I am calling it very optimistic...To challenge china you have to have a great system and most importantly a huge talentpool to compete with to get better...And no country outside of China has that,Fan can test himself by playing against Chuqin but who will test Hugo in Brazil...So it's very optimistic to say that other teams are very near to china,at least for the next 4-5 years china has no real threat... And Ma Long retirement is a 50-50 but I agree with you...Xu Xin's time is almost certainly over...

I try to copy Japan's Hasegawa forehand loop the strongest ever say forgot the name of British author and championin his 70s book. When he do forehand topspin the ball almost just slipping in the table. I try it extending index finger foreward it's true but need to be perfect.the downside it has a weak backhand that can be solved by micro adjustment.Hasegawa forehand garners spin stronger than seung min ryu.what can you say? I will appreciate much your feedback coach on this matter.

Ma Long could have won a Grand Slam at a very young age. He had a chain of bad luck when he was always losing to Wanghao in many crucial moments from 2009 to 2013. Ma needed a big break in 2015 when he only had to face FangBo in the final. Without this Ma could have been just a top-tier Chinese player whose name would soon fade into oblivion. Ma is an all-around player, probably the best table tennis could produce so far, but he has a big weakness: a tough mentality.

It was not bad luck, Ma couldn’t handle Wang’s more compact and pacey return. He did well against Ma Lin that has more traditional slower return. His backhand swing was too big and slow, he won after he made it compact and involving mostly his arms and less on his body so he can counter Wang backhand 3rd ball attack. His forehand also changes due to Wang kept aiming for his body, very much geared towards making armpit area as small as possible due to the fact that he could defeat anyone but Wang and he’s the much faster player too so he can hyper focus to counter Wang Hao. But his early style was destined to get picked apart and destroyed by Wang Hao.
