This upmost “respect” that these singing ladies have for each other at certain times is soo disingenuous and most likely reveal other things. In Mariah’s case she may have been disappointed/ saddened and envious of Celine that she could not step up and deliver, and I love Mariah to bits but cmon, lets be real. She’d be more believable if she had the ability to belt out those Gs like the others did, especially in that period where her voice was not in its best form. This is called devising strategies to maintain positive self-esteem. I empathise with Mariah because her voice seems to be a sensitive topic to her since she doesn’t mention or acknowledge her shift/ decline in her vocal tone quality. That was her second album that sold over 30 million copies. No other divas on that stage did that. Moreover, she was THE headliner of the show. The show was build around her. That’s why she is the one that has the most appearances, she is also the singer that was closing the solo performances. She was also the only one that could invite a guest : Carole King. The latter was not supposed to be in the show but Céline insisted and the producers had to accept. She was at the utimate top on the fame ladder. I don’t think she would have felt like a guest. Spot on. I remember reading some sort of phanphlet that came with the VHS where the producers, or someone else, said that the only reason the show saw the light is because Celine had accepted. Celine Dion was a MASSIVE success during those years. Much more than all of the others. It wasn't until Celine accepted that everyone else said, hey, I am going too. Celine is from a financially challenged and huge family. They were poor, but their home was probably full of love and music (she and her siblings once had a group, and they sang as a family). Celine only had one man in her life and he left her only when he died. Celine had a beautiful family of her own. She’s also open about her own limitations, owning up that she sometimes lip synch and she cannot write songs. She lived a clean life and avoided the spotlight as much as she could. Celine was always kind others and just enjoying the performances in her career. Other people who was jealous to her and maltreated her, we must pray there proper healing and clear mind, for them to do the right thing. Celine is really iconic and legend in her own way as an admirable diva.

Mariah keeps shading Celine because Mariah is an insecure diva. Her voice didn't give what Aretha was asking her, but Celine's did and somehow she spins it into something it's not. But that's typical Mariah. Super insecure. Aretha sees Mariah cannot keep up and moves on. She clearly she says "help me." 😂

“Céline feeling like a guest”. Céline was the best selling artist in the world at that point. She also was the instigator of that show and her and her team helped create it (which is not the case of the other artists on stage). She also was the one with more solo and group numbers because she was the star of the night so I doubt she felt like a guest. At that time, she already sold more than 100 million albums, won many Grammy including album of the year and record of the year, she was invited by the US to sing at the Atlanta’s Olympic games ceremony two years before that because they wanted a voice that speaks to the world, a true international star. They couldn’t find an American that would fit those criterias so they picked a French-Canadian artist (Whitney had done it a few years before that). She had done two of the most successful world tours of that time. She had two albums that sold over 30 million copies, 1 another that sold more than 20 and many more at 5 and 10+. She was the best selling artist in Europe, she released the best selling French speaking album in history. Even if the decade wasn’t over, she was already the most successful artist of the decade. So no, she was not feeling like a guest, she was the queen of the night and she was the one bringing ratings. The show was hers.

celine will remain be remembered as a legendary vocalist with a very massive succesfull worldwide timeless HIT, while the other just relevant and be remembered as a christmas gift, so thats the whole different things😂😂

I love Mariah. But knowing how humble and sweet Celine has always been. I know she simply performed the way she is, a huge diva with a huge talented voice.

Celine didn't see any ill-intent in her singing with Aretha... I think Mariah can over-exaggerate things sometimes (maybe her vocals weren't 100% that evening). but its about showbiz, it about TALENT, its about the TOP divas coming together as ONE and singing!... come one Mariah lighten up - your point was not proven.

Celine participated with The Invitation from Aretha to sing “together”. They did what artists do, feed off each other’s energetic vocals and celebrate. There was no disrespect by Celine. Backing out and backing away to join the back up singers was not where Mariah belonged. The projection of negativity toward Celine was inappropriate & catty. I watched that show live and read articles about that night. I read two Divas formed their private little club that was not inclusive to the other Divas. Music is supposed to bring people together in celebration. It was heart lifting and rejoice full when Aretha took them all to church. Hallelujah!
