MultiVersus has had some controversial changes made since the beta, a very notable one being a slower gameplay speed. I recently did a deep dive review of the game, and this was one of the more interesting areas to look into.

Tf are you even talking about. Slowing the game down was a horrible decision and the player base proves my point in that there is no freaking benefits from this trash decision. Not only has player count dropped by nearly 145k players as now it only has a peak of 5k players in 24 hours. Rollback was cool but that wasn't added because of speed, rollback was gonna be added either way This sh*t is trash until they fix this dog crap a$$ game. Until this sh*t is what it used to be, this sh*t is trash. Rollback is the only good feature added on launch. Reducing camera size makes it harder for players in general to see what's going on as it was much easier to see what was happening when you could actually fuc*ing see what was happening These changes are trash, I hope this game keeps dying just because of how badly they changed the game into dog sh*t

I honestly didn’t liked multiversus before cuz it was extremely slow for me, but now watching this, it just makes me feel it was normal before

I don't get the rollback argument because melee has rollback with slippi and that works perfectly?

Melee is also a graphically weaker game. You could see the individual polygons of some models. Throw on the fact that Melee is also built to be a simpler game compared to Multiverses, and the gap of effectiveness that roll-back has between two gets wider and wider.

​@@soulcyclone360what are you talking about? The graphics have little to no impact on the netcode itself. The entire purpose of the online mode is to take your inputs and broadcast them to the game's servers, while also taking your opponent's inputs and bringing them to you. The inputs then get translated natively, by your own system, along with the graphics. You also claim that Melee is a "simpler game" which is an empty statement. Simpler in what way? There's more options in Melee than in MV. Having higher end graphics has no effect on the online functionality itself. Melee is much harder to program rollback for, because of the high APM, meaning the game has to very quickly register inputs from both players, and also make more "guesses" via rollback.

@@soulcyclone360yeah, sure buddy, a game where you dodge (and that’s it) is a lot more complex than a game where there’s ledge mechanics and a meta formed around them, teching when you hit surfaces, ASDI, crouch cancelling, edge cancels, grabs, shields, and actually has multi-stage ground movement Look I enjoy both, but don’t kid yourself that melee is “simple” compared to multiversus. Compared to Melee/smash, Multiversus watered down the system mechanics and turnt up moveset wackiness. Just because you need to know what every characters moves do and their weirdo game plans doesn’t actually mean it’s a more system-rich game than something like Melee or PM. This games meta is going to heavily depend on blind picks and counter picking, matchups tend to be on the extreme side

@@soulcyclone360 then what is? Dodge cancels? Instant airdash? Every tech derives from the dodge. I’ve played the game plenty to know you’re lyin through you’re fucking teeth this game isn’t mechanically deep at all otherwise people other than brawlhalla players would be playing it Combos rely entirely on on-hit cancels, but the devs don’t even tell you which moves have this property in the movelist, or give you any indication on what frame your character could cancel. These ohcs are the only other thing MVS has going for it mechanically besides dodge, and it’s STILL completely half baked, most of the playerbase doesn’t even know it exists. Wanna know why? Because they don’t expect players to use them like trad fg cancels, they expect people to mash buttons like casuals because that’s who it’s designed for. These stupidly designed cancels are the reason iron giant had (and still has) braindead loops and TOD combos. They could be used to make a somewhat interesting combo meta but unfortunately player first games don’t want that, they want a mashy campy casualfest and the way they’ve changed the game makes that apparent to anyone experienced with platform fighters on a level past “I beat all my friends”

It’s not just the speed. It’s the controls now feeling clunky and unresponsive IMO.

I actually like the slower pace now. There are matches where it feels like my opponent can just dodge everything I'm doing constantly. And if I'm having that problem now, I can't image how bad it would have been if I played the beta.

That's just the strange game design choice of being able to cancel everything with a dodge. It's really weirdly non-committal

Imagine watching over a multiversus match with 1.25× speed or more lol. Also seeing gameplay, the low ceiling does seem like an issue...

i like the slower pace in doubles but in singles mode i definitely wish it was faster

as a smash bros player im not a fan of this gameplay. i like the art direction and the roster. i personally dont find it fun though. i dont like the slow, floaty feel of everything. its like pulling out your shoestrings entirely and then trying to go for a jog.

The speed has been nice to get used to, i wish there was a bit more tech to speed some actions up like end lag

I honestly prefer this over the beta.But my biggest problem with it is the levelling up system it’s slow and feels clunky some quest requires to have a specific character like “hit with jokers bazooka 6 times” I don’t even have that character so that’s 4 weekly quests that I can’t do (I have 4 of the same quests that I can’t do)

With everything thing being slower i think that they are trying to go for a more defensive type of fighting game. Personally not for me but i like the option that it is there.

Beta players refuse to believe the game was dog shit before because they spent a lot of hours getting good at a game where disadvantage didnt matter. So now that the game requires more skill to be good at, they think the slower pace is whats making them lose 🤦🏻‍♂️

I'm happy I'm not the only one who likes the pace and size of the game compared to the beta, it feels like you go online and everyone wants it to be smash or rivals fast when that just doesn't work well for the game it's trying to be. Not evrry game has to be the same speed, look at tradtional and 3d fighting games, they've got drastically different speeds to fit their design and gameplay style, and people don't complain about it, they go play a game they like.

Reason it’s slow if you have up to date internet: your strategic movement is out of order in other words go to training and practice movement

Beta was horrible. I don't want 2 fast speedy Gonzalez rats running across my screen. This game isn't slow either it's paced pretty good. I wouldn't mind a faster speed, but definitely wouldn't want the same pace from beta.

i stopped playing when discovered the game was slower. But it still cracks me up to see youtubers still have the eyesore color enemies forced to their games almost a month after release lol
