I love how much attention this game is getting. It’s clearly a project of love and passion. Not so much concerned about making a profit like other platform fighter games, it’s more concerned about the characters and their stories, and user experience. If there’s any platform fighter game that deserves a bigger fanbase it’s Rivals of Aether.

All I need is for his power ups to be incorporated into his moveset. The power ups are arguably the most recognizable thing about Mario. I feel like they could make his down special spawn a question block above him allowing him to choose between different power ups that change his neutral special. Maybe if he takes a certain amount of damage he loses it, like with Kirby.

Steve started to heavily fall off in competitive recently. Honestly right now competitively that if you are amazing with a character you can go far in a tournament.

The video covered was essentially just a summary, but I kinda feel the sentiment. I was never really a serious Smash player, but the game and its community in 2019 specifically led to the most fun I think I ever had as a gamer. The game felt well balanced and fresh, and I wish I could experience the naivety again, but it is sad to think about now. It is better that the truth about all the top players came out, but I've never been able to look at the big tournaments in quite the same way since. That initial period after launch will just never be replicated again, and between the circuit controversy and not knowing if Sakurai will be around or if the game will ever be this ambitious again, it feels like there is a long uphill climb ahead.

Rollback net code was still very new even on Smash Ult's release. Not many fighting games didn't pick up on it until a few years later which I give Smash ult a lot more leeway with not having it. It would have been amazing if they added it towards fighters pass 2 but I am sure they already spent all their budget on the fighters and dev work to put into those fighters.

My biggest irritation with the whole Hero thing was just the amount of disrespect he got based on him being a sword fighter. Honestly Hero has just as much right to be there as Link does. Heck I doubt Link would even exist without the Dragon Quest franchise.

Docs dair in melee is like a drill yeah and you show the combo stuff with the smash 4 iteration But in melee even tho its basically identical to smash4, you get a lot of mileage off of just throwing out full hop dairs Its a lot to do with it being stupidly disjointed but also cause all the foxes are spamming full hop nair. Theres probably less of that in sm4sh and also fox is less centralizing even if he has full hop nair there

I'd love to see Little Mac really emphasize dodging and whiff-punishing. Maybe make him build Star Punch faster for how many attacks he can land before getting hit.

I think the most interesting thing you could do for Samus/ZSS is let them transform into one another at-will. "Tanky zoner" and "speedy combo fighter" modes would work well together.

9:04 this is coming from a Sonic main, but I am glad that they gave wario the shoulder bash for his running attack. The shoulder bash was his side Smash in Brawl but then they replaced it with that uppercut in Smash 4 but he never had a shoulder bash in that game so any remnant of the wario Land games besides I guess his alts was just not in the game at all so I'm glad as a running attack they gave in the shoulder bash bringing back his main killer move from the wario Land games. And by doing so they still kept that side smash uppercut anyway so he would still have the longer range in his side smash so I think it worked out pretty well

Can you make a video we’re you make a move set for a character that isn’t a playable character also I find it funny that most if not all the smash 64 characters have that nair or maybe a video on the most nerfed characters or an overview video on Bayaneta also also did peach and Greninja trade down tilts neat

for a while I kinda disliked playing ult, but then I came back and just tried to recapture what I loved about ult from the start, I began playing the game items on, all stages and every thing I disliked or would nitpick just disappeared, for me competitive play just lost a lot of enjoyment over the years, since retiring I have bern happier and having more fun

Pikachu not overrated he not even play much in tournaments plus he has nothing like Steve and Kuzuya that breaks the rules of the game like building platforms or heavy Armor on most his attacks

I still think that the Everyone is here line is false advertising when two Zeldas (Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess) and Twilight Princess Link didn’t return as playable characters. Skins referencing them don’t count. The only Zelda characters that returned from a past Smash game are Ganondorf, Wind Waker Link (Toon Link), and Ocarina of Time Link (Young Link). Ganondorf is the same character between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess in terms of story, he just de-aged relative to Smash 4. Toon Link has always been Wind Waker Link due to him having the Master Sword. And Young Link has always been the child form of Ocarina of Time Link. Sheik is just made up based off of Breath of the Wild. Same goes for the design used in Brawl and Smash 4. The game advertised characters, not movesets. There is more to a character than the moveset. There’s also the backstory and the like as well. Three characters from past Smash Bros games are missing, making the “Everyone is Here” line in the advertising a lie and false advertising.

If they bring back custom moves (They SHOULD), Joker's customs should from three different Personas. All of his special moves should be personas. If he keeps his stance change, I think he should be able to have some kind of choice. Maybe depending on how he builds the meter he gets different personas? Maybe bite some of shulk's design? IDK JUST SPITBALLING

To me Mario at his core is about simplicity, not crazy movement. In every game he’s in from Mario Bros to Mario Kart he’s always a super basic, beginner friendly guy with no major gimmicks or unique traits. If Mario’s on the cover of a game people think accessibility, not “I’m gonna do the craziest stuff with this guy”. The one exception to this is Mario Odyssey (and Sunshine in some ways) where they go wild with the movement options, but in general Mario is meant to be simple.

Something I have to say is that if a rivals character was in smash ultimate all of them would be at least in S tier, all of their moves are good and have a use, even the niche moves are good.

The thing is if we get a smash ultimate port I doubt we’ll get almost any changes aside from standard buffs/nerfs. I feel like they’ll just save that for the next game but I hope I’m wrong

My biggest problem is the mechanics. Smash 4 was the slowest imo in all the entries of Smash. But to me there was a lot of tech skill that made the movement options feel way more of a gap of the players level of skill, where I feel we're just all thrown together of the same skill level and all the top players who have the bust level of skill in mindset and thinking end up winning. Even back in Smash 4 when Bayonetta was kicking everyone into the dirt after she was already nerffed, I feel like Smash 4 never died for me. There was Perfect Pivoting, Bidou and cool new Footstool Tech to learn with characters, and Smash Ultimate has it's own input buffering where things are meant to feel to have way more control over, but they ended up being way too out of control do to the Smash Ultimate buffering system due to auto short hop canceling being built in the games, jablock windows being ruined though we were supposed to have enough time in between each jablock, the overall clunkiness and awkwardness of character collision and overall character movement, than my favorite thing I hate the most "random air dodge buffering" when I press the tech button to tech a stage spike but since shield is shared with air dodge, the game naturally punishes me for trying to make the right option, even if I wouldn't die from an early stage spike the smart thing is to get back to the stage, and incorrect input buffering and the small windows for the smart inputs and the huge windows afterward for all the defensive options like rolling or air dodging. Smash 5, I want to see Air Dodging finally go. Smash Ultimate controls very uncomfortably and bad compared to any game in the entire series. It's engine is awful. There's too many incorrect input buffering and I feel like I'm more often being punished naturally by the game for making a good decision makes a very overall frustrating experience. I've heard some good and bad about HDR, but I'm finally almost saved for a hacked Switch OLED, and think I'm gonna try it out. Smash Ultiimate has so many good characters and it's a shame I couldn't enjoy it. When it comes to talking about "Smash is a game for everyone, and unfortunately bad people too" I really feel as though Tournaments should be organized by age, take VGC for Pokemon for example, to me to was awesome seeing 14 year old Spargo kick Leo's Arse even if it started off online, and as a kid it's a dream come true being able to beat "The Best Players in The World" that happen to be adults, and it seems less hype and these kids can't live a dream, and I've had people disagree with me and I've seen both sides, but at the end of the day Smash will continue to have this horrible representation of bad people in the community or people being rightfully called out or wrongfully accused of something they didn't do, or constant new predatorial actions against innocent kids, unless something like an age division happens. It's such an awful thing that the Smash Community won't consider, less allegations and less danger being allowed in the community. Kids aren't just a targetted group, other groups are also of prey, but it at least eliminates one of them. Thanks for the video and sorry for the long comment. To be honest, I'd rather we don't make Latest Generation Gimmick stuff like the cat or the hat the big *thing* for Mario. Would be better to make him as evergreen as possible. Give him his hammer, his ground pound, fire powers, and better platforming physics, and keep him that way so that we don't end up having the same discussion in Smash 8 when all the new gimmicks from the Switch generation are dated and we're talking about how to rework him around Robo Mario or something.

I'm surprised G&W's fair came out over up air. G&W's up air is by far the best up air in the game for being the easiest juggling tool in the game. And even though it doesn't kill like the old toot toot does, a non negligible number of characters straight up take 100% from just up air once they're launched in the sky.

A couple things for me: a) It's a bit sketchy whether it actually counts as a "new move" considering it's the same source material. b) Losing the ability to kill off the top in the air like that isn't trivial at all, he'd actually still be able to do dthrow -> uair kill confirms on some characters if it hadn't been changed c) As annoying as it is, those colossal juggles opponents just can't get down from don't happen constantly in practice. They _can,_ sure, but whenever I need to find a clip of G&W uair looking REALLY good, it often actually takes quite a bit of digging through vods to find. The most common outcome by far is that he'll hit you with a handful of them, maybe finish it off with a Fire for a bit extra, and then things reset. None of that makes it bad by any means, don't get me wrong lol, but I do think the tradeoff is harsher than with fair.

I largely agree with these takes, but there’s several things I want to mention and some slight and more drastic design changes I’d make to improve some of these moves better or change them for the better of the character. ~ To make Pikachu's neutral aerial more in tune with its archetype and be more accurate to its game of origin, we're gonna make it a single, relatively strong hit that paralyzes opponents before sending them upwards. And because of that we're renaming it Thunder Wave. Now Pikachu actually has to work for combos but can now use the paralyze effect to set up an entire multitude of different follow-ups by attacking from different angles, making it a more interesting combo starter after all. Also remember female Pikachu are playable now. ~ Nothing to replace Doc's down aerial, just wanna say that I love how it separates Doc more from Mario. Personally I would change the down aerial of every single main _Mario_ character plus Yoshi and Wario to be the Ground Pound, and Doc is one of three characters (the others being Bowser Jr. and Piranha Plant) that I wouldn't change. As for that jab at Doc being mean, I mean hey, his opponents are viruses and eliminating viruses is what he does best. ~ I'd keep the new up tilt for Luigi, the application is still the same but I'd change the animation to be an upwards hammer swing, basically being the Hammer Uppercut from _Mario & Luigi: Dream Team's_ Giant Battles. A bit more endlag would need to be added, but it's not like that'd completely break its use. Make more sense than that pathetic uppercut he actually does.

15:50 while it is true that there are no real follow ups after suplex, the move still puts your opponent directly under the platform at 0. This sets up for a tech chase or a reset that forces your opponent to guess if they have to shield or not. Also, it puts your opponent at the perfect percent to get the maximum reward (usually a kill) off of both weak and strong nair, which is an incredibly valuable tool because brawler has very few options to get frame advantage until that percent.

Not to mention it directly synchronizes with dash attack at zero because your opponent will also be in the window for dash attack thrupper which does even more damage than suplex
