I get the design, but not the real execution, of most of Mac’s aerials. Fair makes sense because he’s not used to punching in the air. There’s no form to train. Bair too. But Fair? Up Air? Those are proper punches. Those would HURT. It would make more sense for Fair to be good and up air to be good but the other two to suck. His air mobility would still be trash, and he could have an interesting side to his limited aerial combat other than Nair frame traps.

not to imply that it's a smash killer or even a platform fighter (fully), but have you heard of this game called Your Only Move Is Hustle? It's kind of a mix between platform and traditional fighting games, except it's also step-by-step, so I guess it's too niche to even (directly) be called a fighting game... nevertheless, I think your perspective on it would be extremely interesting to see, as time has shown you know fighting game design much better than you probably give yourself credit for!

I don't think you can really say that this game's downfall was based off of if a character inclusion was good or not, I think that's a little cringy, and I'm saying this as someone who HATED eighty percent of the dlc, especially FP 2. That being said, I think the debate between Min Min vs Byleth as the worst character is hilarious, as pyra and mythra are so much worse than both of them it's not even funny.

Using Ryu as a rep for fighting games as a whole is kinda stupid when they are all very different games it’s not like every fighting game character is from street fighter as I keep watching the video I’ll point out more problems Edit 1: Cutting villager is very stupid yes I believe Isabelle is the mascot of new animal crossing however villager is far more important to the series legacy and the series in general he has been there since the beginning she has been there for 2 games Edit3: I agree with that comment saying it’s unfair to cut banjo because of moveset Edit4: my bias about to show here but I completely dis agree calling meta knight and dedede sakarai picks is wrong I believe they have made a very big impact on the Kirby series you never have a game without a classic dedede fight I believe they are just as important as the tri force trio just because Kirby doesn’t sell as much as Zelda doesn’t mean it’s not important I know you didn’t even cut them but still Edit5: Snake reveal was so big and made an impact of course he doesn’t fit in but that’s the point that’s the novelty of having snake in smash Edit6: Joker. When it comes to Smash-original characters, one I really wanna see is Primid. All of the different variants that they had in Subspace would give them a fairly interesting moveset, and you could even include some of the other enemies as part of the moveset. I was expecting them to be added as Mii Costumes given how all three of the classes were variants (there was the basic one that attacked with punches, the swordfighter with a green beam sword, and a gunner who had a large cannon).

Im sorry you have to find out this way but Orcane 100% DOES have a terrible move, perhaps the worst of all. Orcane DA is minus on clean hit until 60% on zetterburn weight. The move has 11 active frames and 20 endlag frames meaning a clean hit would leave you with a full half of a second of pure inactionability. You can be *punished* for successfully hitting DA up until 50% and not get any conversion from it until somewhere like 90%. Even on shield, the move is -25 frames, allowing the opponent to wavedash oos -> wavedash again -> grab before i even enter actionable state. Orcane's DA is 100% his worst move.

The lack of tutorials for Rivals 2 was painful for me. Trying to learn how the pummel system works after not following the game at all and not knowing where to look for information was really discouraging; attempting to pummel at all against a CPU would just immediately break the grab, so I just had to play like the whole system wasn't even there (and no, I am not making an account for online). Honestly, even now, I'm not really a fan of the current system; I get that required mashing is generally bad design, but I'm also not particularly keen on the 50/50 system in play now. I'm also glad that I'm not alone for not liking the current R2 cast, though I dislike it moreso because I don't think anyone in the game is fun and not from the characters being frustrating to fight against.

the term "smash killer" has always really turned me off from even trying these games. the community vitriol is just not something i want to associate with. i was ecstatic that not only did rivals 2 finally show some self respect to me, it's also incredible. while i am one of those people who hopped off bc i don't really get it and i'm not competitive, i'm actively following the devs and supporting them as well as playing with my friends. hope their attitude and vision serves as the template every one of these "smash killers" should act like.

As a Brawl ZSS main who's tried to use her in every game since, Ultimate ZSS honestly feels like the most boring iteration of the character. I get that they had to nerf her grab from 4 but most grab centric characters like DK and Mario had theirs changed but they remained functional. ZSS conpletely lost hers and its not like her grab is Luigi tier of speed. This basically turned her into a character who really only has mobility which is... disappointing. Throw in unreliable hitboxes and now you understand why "ZSS sux" is a meme. Shes in a weird spot because her moveset aside from paralyzer is largely Smash original, mainly based on her being agile. If anything the best thing to do might be to lean more into that, give her more whip and jet boot attacks. Ive always been sad that since 4 most of her whip attacks from Brawl are just gone, I much preferred the more fundanental based design in Brawl to this rather aimless one. I disagree with the item spawns though. In order to balance that they'd likely weaken her or have her be an item dependent character which I personally dont want. Honestly something between PM ZSS and Brawl ZSS would be best for her, a fundamental based agile character that isnt so dependent on down b/up b for kills. Oh and please give her the old fsmash, the one from 4 doesn't work properly and it just looks really weird. Her old one was basically a pseudo sword slash which was a lot more distinctive not to mention functional.

You brought up a topic I hadn't really thought about. How critical are 'back jump animations'? I'm working on my own game and using pixel art, but I had never thought about 'back jump' animations being a neccessity, not even something I had thought about, just jumps that looks reasonable in any movement direction. Are they really critical for all games or is this a 3D game thing?
