Ikr it happens to me every day it’s so sad cuz I rlly love her but she is afraid of my whole family. I just want to play with her but when I came close she lets me pet her then after that she just runs away and either goes under the bed or outside. The only time she comes out is to go outside or eat. 😭

My cat Millie was exactly like that. She wouldn’t even attempt going to the couch, she was constantly under the bed. After a lot of research I’ve learned that the best thing (for the cat and the cat owner) is to “treat” this behavior. Cover the bottom of the bed or anything where they like to hide and give them “designated hiding spots”. I was skeptical but when Millie realized no one was gonna hurt her and started to explore (maybe looking for a place to hide) she figured is was much more fun to be out. And after 2 weeks I removed the blockage from under the beds, tables etc and she doesn’t even wants to hide anymore. No cat should spend their whole life hiding. Plus, quoting Jackson Galaxy, imagine in an emergency, your home is on fire and you can’t get your kitten from under the bed.

I have a female cat like this. She has a lot of fear and I suspect she may have been abused before we got her. I've been very very patient and kind and loving toward her. She has been coming out of summer for fears but she's very timid. I spend time with her quite often and she's responding to me better now, even purring. She's beginning to enjoy it also. In the beginning she wouldn't even eat food if I was in the room. Now she will. Sometimes I wonder how long it would take to help her get rid of all that fear. Yet I'm encouraged because she is making progress in the presence of me showing a lot of loving-kindness toward her.

It's a bit of a relief seeing this video. I occasionally take care of a cat that is just like this. Runs and hides in the closet... Will only come out for meals and to go to the bathroom, and won't come out unless I'm completely out of sight.

A stray cat has moved into our woodshed. It's taken all summer, but we've gotten him somewhat socialized. We can't pick him up yet, but can pet him. He gives lots of head bumps and even purrs. He needs to be neutered and checked out for any health problems. He appears healthy, but I'd like to have a vet look at him. I'm worried about catching him as he may become traumatized, but we need to do something. We'd like to bring him inside, but don't want to expose our indoor cats to him before we know he's healthy and neutered. I feel sorry for him being out all the time. I think he wants to come inside. I especially worry about him at night and when he goes for walks and is gone for hours at a time. When he's out of sight we're concerned. He seems quite content in the wood shed, but I don't want to leave him there all winter. He's not nearly as shy as your Kate Moss, but it's taken months to get him to the stage he's at now.

I just want to share my experience with my shy and scared cat. So I got Minerva (Minnie for short) a week ago, and at first all what she did was hide underneath the couch and would rarely come out. What I started to do is just sit on the couch and read or go on my phone, being quiet and just acting normally. Then I lured her out with treats. Slowly progressing through the week she started to get more relaxed and confident. Now she loves getting petted! She is so obsessed with me now. At times I almost lost hope and though she will never let me pet her, but I never gave up! Just remember even if your cat is very scared of you and won’t come out of hiding just be patient! ( I would like to point out that Minnie never had human interaction before she came to me, I was the first human she trusted)

My sons cat is like that..i saved him 8yrs ago from under my porch. His head was stuck between a cement wall & cement block. He is blind in one eye but doesnt stop him from running round early morning which is his time. He wont come 2 me but if my son calls him he goes running to him. He likes being alone in his lair also. After my first boy was lost to cancer I adopted another a few months later. He tried to hide at shelter but his tail was very long. It took almost two weeks before he came out from under the bed. One night I didn't even notice he got on the couch with me. He still is afraid of any sudden moves and bails under my bed even after a year and a half anytime anyone comes to the door. Including my grown children and girlfriend. My daughter cat is cool around anyone. Love them to bits.

I know of someone who has many rescues and one ended up having a litter of 5 kittens, which were born in his house. That was about 13 years ago and he kept four of them. A few years after he homed the one, he took him back. The one which got rehomed along with three of the others ended up very sociable, whilst one has been very shy for most of his life. He will always run off when the guy tries to go anywhere near him even though he’s always been around the guy since he was born. The one which was rehomed and two of the others are very sociable and love attention and affection. Two will give signs that they want to be petted, with one giving love bites. The other one was also friendly, but didn’t like too much attention.

We have four cats, we say 4-1/2 because of the outdoor stray. Two are big males and hide when company comes over. Otherwise they are out and about all the time and very affectionate. Two others, a female and male, are outgoing and don't hide when strangers come to the house. Our female is the oldest cat, about 12. The other friendly one is about 9 months. Thanks for your videos. My 5 months old tabby hides and sleeps all day in the closet and comes out in the evening only. He is active and playful all night while I sleep. It's been a month since I adopted him and he still does that. I still can't pet him, but he will eat treats close to me if I don't move. He is not aggressive. He will be neutered soon. Would it help if I closed the closet door? I once tried it for a few hours and he hid in another spot instead. He was taken in by a shelter at 4 months of age. I was wondering if once he is neutered, I should simply release him outside. He doesn't seem interested in sharing his space with humans. He only meows occasionally when he's looking out the window, but never at me. He is very afraid of visitors. He urinates and defecates on my bed if they step into the room he hides in. So now I make sure they don't go in there when I have people over. He is my first cat and I wanted a cat I could bond with. It is just not happening with this one. Having this cat is only responsibilities and frustration with no reward. :(

Nuno Soares maybe. But even cats who have been around humans since birth are shy for some reason. I know of a guy who has a group of four litter mates who were born in his home and one has been shy for most of his life. For some reason some are naturally shy even when always around humans.

I found this video while trying to find out why our cat acts scared of us. We got her (Misha) and her sister (Totoro) when they were 12 weeks old a few years ago, and their personalities are just like night and day. Totoro is friendly, outgoing, and confident, while Misha is so shy and scared. If anyone walk near her she will crouch down and her pupils will dilate with fear. If people get close she will run away, and if for any reason we need to touch her (eg, for fleaing) her ears will go flat and she will fight to get away. She will play with toys, but after that she just goes back to being scared. It breaks my heart that she lives in fear all the time.

@@amgadhegazy8998 It's interesting to note that in this video Caroline talks about how Kate Moss will rarely come out, but only when everyone is settled and watching a movie. Misha has "progressed" a little in that she will come up to be petted, but only when I'm sitting at the computer or lying down in bed. She will also comes for treats, but again only if I'm sitting down. I think she feels a little more confident when it's on her terms, and if people are at the same level as her. If I, or anyone else, come towards her, she will still either crouch down with a fearful look, or just try and escape as usual. I guess it's scary for her to have people towering over her or approaching her.

We took on a one year old feral and we just let her decide if she wanted to be social. She is not a lap cat and probably never will be but she knows she is loved and cared for. She will bump heads and allow herself to be petted on occasion. As long as we are sitting down we are not a threat, but if we get up from were we were sitting we become threatening and she runs and hides. She doesn't hide for very long because she is always interested in what is going on and has to investigate.

I love the name Kate Moss. Katey girl, you are a model kitty, even if you are shy. I think sometimes some beings are just shy no matter what we do. I think you accepting Kate for who she is is the best you can do for her. Most of my cats, except for one kitty, have been very social and friendly. I've always treated all my babies with gentle love and kindness. So who knows? My current companion, Mage Magdalene, is probably too friendly. Everyone who visits me is always greeted by "Maggie" with repeated head buttes and purrs. Maggie also happens to be a very photogenic calico Norwegian Forest 12-year-old girl. Men who profess to not like cats always wind up falling for her wiles.

Update::my second boy died from cancer and I adopted another shy boy. But he is far worse, 2 months hiding and staying under the bed. He stays in a couple boxes all the time which is no life for a cat. When the vet saw how scared he was running around the exam room she prescribed buspirone. Which takes about 2 months to work. He is a gentle boy with a good heart. As scared as he was he never snarled, bit or clawed. He loves pets and chin scratches but in his box. I hope the buspirone works. He deserves a good life-not in a box.

@weadeeweajue Oh yes,, soon after the busiprone started he came up to a middle bedroom and after another month or so he explored the front room. It's been a year and his favorite spot is stretched out on my legs, he moves for my lap before I even get sat down. And he likes to be held like a baby purring to each other, Eskimo kisses and head bumps. I stopped the transdermal busiprone shortly after he started coming to front room, slowly weaning him off. He came from a home of elderly couple that never socialized him and was a bad environment. I gave him love, patience and time. So worth the time for my boy.

I'm on a breathing machine, and have a trach. My sister brought her cat over this weekend, because her house is getting sone work done on it, and it's going to be unavailable to them in the daytime, so we have the cat this weekend. I try to be friends with the cat, but He doesn't want anything to do with me. Plus the noises from the breathing machine connected to me, doesn't help.

omg kate sounds exactly like my willow that i've had for almost two years! as a little baby she was attached to me, now i'm lucky if i see her a couple times a week. I leave the living room closet open for her to have her safe space. I miss her cuddles and i was worried i had done something wrong or scared her, so it's good to know that some cats are just like that. My Bella, who presents as a more independent in charge of everything cat is the one who craves all the cuddles and attention, their personalities and actions are so different lol!

I adopted yesterday a 4 months old kitten, she’s so scared of me. I have the two opposites, my older cat loves attention, loves to be picked up and loves cuddles and being around humans, he hides with some humans but otherwise, he'll be happy to be petted by mostly anyone, he was adopted and spent the early months of his time on the streets, he is scared of going out, he hates vet visits but overall he is super loving, always cuddling, on the other hand, I adopted a kitty from someone who received a box with kittens to be killed, I saw a pic and right away told the person I wanted him, he was well cared for and I adopted him as soon as the vet thought it was safe, he was friendly when he was little, sometimes he would even sleep on my bed, now he rarely sleeps on my bed, he much prefers to hide in my closet which since I noticed he liked I made a little bed so he could be more comfy, he spends most of the day there venturing to get food or water, I can't even think of walking his way because he runs away, but he loves bathroom pets and the sometimes evening pet on my bed, the other day he even slept on my bed with the other cat, I've been worried for the longest, I don't want him to feel scared or unsafe so I try to be very careful with my movements to make sure of this. This made me feel a bit more settled, maybe that's his personality and he is happy hiding on his closet fort (I can't close that door ever now)

My cat will come up to me, rub against me, but will only allow me to pet her when I'm putting food out. I've only had her for 2 months, she's about a 1 year old and was feral before I took her in. She's terribly afraid of being picked up and anytime I move my hands quickly, she gets scared. It could be anything, grabbing my phone, or a water bottle and so many other weird instances. I don't think she'll ever adjust to domesticity the way a kitten would have.

See that's what bothers me with cat owners. I'm a recent cat owner and I have been searching online to help my cat adjust to his new environment with me. He is still a kitten and I could tell he was more shy than his brothers and sisters. Guess what? I chose him anyway because I knew how impatient and shameful human can be. Especially that he is black and some idiots are still suspicious about this sort of things. Are you ok with Kate moss because you have two cats giving you affection? I took my cat out of place of abondance inside of me, I wasn't seeking affection from him, I wanted to help his situation. So it was easier for me to be patient with him. He is almost like Kate Moss. Very shy and coming out to eat, play and do his business. I see that he seeks my presence but doesn't know nor understand how he should be, because his natural instinct is to be cautious. It has been 3months now. I'm not addressing you personally saying this but that frustrates me to hear people giving up on their cat because it didn't give them affection. Find some affection yourself instead of pressuring a cat to give you some. See it as helping an animal adjust to the world you are contributing destroying without its say in this.

Hey there, you are SO awesome for adopting this kitty. I bet he will come around to you after some time. The cat in this video, which was made a few years ago, has become a lot friendlier since and comes out to hang out with us, even jumping on the couch to chill. Just let your cat take his own time, but don't be afraid to touch and pet him (unless his ears are back and he's hissing, you don't want to get bit!). Gently put him in your lap if you can, or next to you, and scratch under the chin and ears. Little by little, I think you will find you have a very devoted, if still a little shy, friend for life.

these shy cats are usually abused early in their life. Glad you leave her alone and don't force her to "love" you. I once took care of a cat like that, it was not fun for me (I got literally nothing from her), but if it's what the cat wants, I have to oblige. Cats first, humans second.

Most likely it's a Siamese mix. Siamese cats are a certain type of albino and are born white. Their color is temperature sensitive. In mommy's warm tummy, they stay white. The color is starts to develop when they are exposed to cooler temps, and is most pronounced on the cooler areas of the body: Tail, ears, legs and face.

Sounds like she has a medical issue. Not wanting to hang out with people is one thing, but only being in one place day after day? Maybe she's in pain and doesn't want to leave the one place that comforts her? Have you asked the vet about it? *(Just read the description... maybe her eye(s) hurt?)

Hi there! Kate Moss has been to the vet regularly over the years and physically she's fine. She's just a very shy cat! She does come out when we are hanging on the sofa but I wasn't ever able to get video of her (it was dark, or if I got up to get my phone she'd scoot off). But she has a very healthy appetite and comes out to meow and pace the kitchen as soon as I start making the cats their food. She also snuggles with a couple of the other cats when they go to the bedroom to take a nap. One vet said Katie just might be sort of like an autistic person...her brain just works different. We love her anyway and always feel honored when she decides to grace us with her presence. Thanks for the comment!

I was skeptical but when Millie realized she couldn’t hide under/inside anything but no one was gonna hurt her, she started to explore (maybe looking for a place to hide) and she figured is was much more fun to be out and about. And after 2 weeks I removed the blockage from under the beds, tables etc and she doesn’t even wants to hide anymore. No cat should spend their whole life hiding. Plus, quoting Jackson Galaxy, imagine in an emergency, your home is on fire and you can’t get your kitten from under the bed.

My roomies cat is like that, for some reason it makes me Soo angry and very very chill. Seems like cats like these can't stay indoors. These cats are probably suffering inside cuz for the slightest sound they feel scared. Imagine feeling scared for 15 years common......
