@OneByteAcademyOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Hello Lainy, restart your Mac and try to make the update once more from system preferences. The update files are just waiting in your computer to be used. Don't worry about the taken storage. It will be automatically deleted afterwards. Nevertheless the updates itself surely cannot take 30GB, because the whole MacOS installer has around 12 GB maximum, so it must be something else which is taking 30GB of your storage.

@OneByteAcademyOfficial2 жыл бұрын
It’s actually very simple. Mac is using free storage to cache files in order to make them easily accessible👨🏼💻 And Ram memory is also offloading some data to a storage, it’s called ,,Swap” I am just working on the video explaining this I will let you know when it’s shared. But in general don’t worry about it. It’s taking the storage only temporarily. If you restart the computer it will be automatically freed again 👍

@OneByteAcademyOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Well the problem is that you can’t really count each folder separately 📁 they will not add up together the storage what is actually used. I’m afraid you really have only 10gb left, so you should review your files and delete what you don’t need and archive other files on external storage.
@arsenalz44002 жыл бұрын
@@OneByteAcademyOfficial yeah, u can actually count and add them up, it takes a while, I checked using cmd+I and wait the data to load, it takes a while like 1 or 2mjnutes to appear the storage used by that folder

@@arsenalz4400 Yes of course you can show the folder info. The point is that you can’t find all the folders to count them together, there are hidden files or even folders which you can’t calculate manually. But the system knows about it. Thanks for the video this helped me find what was eating up almost 100GB of space. Apparently a 4 hour screen recording file somehow got recorded and saved in the library!

omg i didnt know what was taking all my gb and i had a 6 hour screen recording!
@OneByteAcademyOfficial2 жыл бұрын
@@cyupiid screen recordings are quite large files. When I’m making these videos it takes a lot of storage. I always need to find all the recordings and projects in final cut and manualy delete it 👨🏼💻

My system has only 245.11 GB. Is there a way that I can increase the total system storage? I see that you have over 400GB
@OneByteAcademyOfficial2 жыл бұрын
You probably have the 256GB version. I bought a Mac with 512GB of storage. I believe you can get a new disk with larger storage, but these upgrades get very expensive.

I am really happy you find my video useful! 🙏 It is always a struggle with space. I used to have 128GB MacBook Air and I was perfectly fine and now I can hardly fit in 1TB 👨🏼💻
