The reason why Tesla's can't go that fast is because the motor doesn't have more than one speed. The limit is actually the motor not being able to go any faster (like redlining an electric motor). The 155 mph limit is imposed to prevent damage to both the battery and the motor (usually when going down hill). Source: I work at Tesla

AC off, suspension very low, make sure battery is cool. In-between runs put the suspension on very high so there’s maximum venting capabilities from the battery pack. Then back to very low for the run. Also make sure range mode is off and have the highest charge possible.

Next time: - Start the run with 100% battery (bring with you a super external battery pack :) ) You’ll have a significant amount of extra power for few miles. - And empty your car as much as possible (not extra passenger) you’ll accelerate quicker and thus probably gain extra hundreds feet to get to the 155mph. So the 155 mph/ 250 kph speed limit is due to the motor limitation. Tesla wanted you to get the maximum acceleration with a top speed that matches with the top speed of other cars( Audi,Bmw etc). A electric motor has a rpm limit, exceeding this limit and you will damage the motor or other parts. As you know EV have one gear because they don‘t need more than that (efficiency of the motor). Tesla put the gear ratio to match the top speed while being on the motor‘s healthy limit. That‘s why a Tesla accelerates that quickly but can‘t pull that fast to it‘s top speed. In Formel E there are race cars with 1 gear but also some with 2 gears. The reason they got 2 gears is that they reach their maximum efficiency faster. But you don‘t need that in your everyday driver, do you? Greetings from switzerland.

That also means that if Tesla changed the gear ratio to match 140 mph it would accelerate faster and that works the other way around. I don‘t know if the real top speed (matching the gear ratio) would be 160 mph and they limited the top speed by software to protect the motor.

Peter Reichert I do drive one and usually my dashes are on the regeneration side versus output, two reasons to get it on the top (output) without system failure are running out of charge, or overheating motor components or the battery. At 6:05 you can see in the power meter a yellow dotted line and an exclamation point indicating a power limit caused by overheating of the drive train ( battery, motors) so that's why the acceleration after 130 mph was limited. It is also because it's an 100D and not a P100D w/ the performance motors. And last the top speed is limited to 155m mph because the motors have a single gear and at top speed they are spinning at max RPMs ~16k.

Well, you might want to charge your Telsa a little more and give the batteries and motors time to cool off, that's why it was limiting your power. When you look back on the video, you can see the dotted line, that was the car not giving you full power output. It was limiting it. (6:06 Just one example.) Otherwise, you would have definitly hit 155 MPH. Also to get a faster launch, Press and hold the brake, press the throttle once, it will give you a message, and press and hold both pedals at the same time. Then let go of the brake with the throttle fully depressed.

But the car had a higher top speed measured by police radar the second run! 147 vs I think it was 146. Probably because he went faster through the second curve. Ideally he would be cornering at max g through that corner then pedal down as he unwinds the wheel. Others have pointed out that he should have had a higher charge and "low" suspension setting for best power and minimum drag. All of that done right, might have made the speed limiter at 155.

155mph is a pretty common 'limited' top speed of many European sports cars and luxury saloons. It's about 250km/h, which is plenty fast enough for actual driving as opposed to going as fast as possible for fun. Also, it might be to limit the revs of the motor for durability.

When a battery is drained, even partially, it's voltage goes down. Voltage is "pressure" that the battery can put out. Even at 80%, that's voltage lost. Your best bet would be to have the car at 100% and start. Think about it... if you walk 5 miles and then someone asks you to race, your going to be slower than if you rested before hand. Another... when you use a dremel, a battery operated one, you can tell the battery is dying because it doesn't have enough power or "pressure" to exert to push electrons through the wires, causing it to loose performance. It's a downside to electric cars, but one of the only ones😂. Thanks for all your videos. Hope that helps

The gearing for the motors also give it lower end torque and power but once you get above 100 mph then the motor starts to struggle because the gearing is not a low enough ratio for higher speed.

I believe there are 2 reasons for limited top speeds. 1 is the tyres. A 155mph limit allows for W or Y rated tyres. If those cars could reach their true top speeds much more expensive rubber would be needed. 2. It's a 'gentlemans agreement'. Nearly all the big German brand cars also have this limit (BMW, Merc, Audi etc) and it's said this was made to protect the deristricted autobahns in Germany and also appease green parties due to excessive fuel consumption.

The tires can take up to 165 for around 2 miles before they really heat up. The 155mph was an EU edict for 'safety' reasons. All euro manufacturers are MANDATED to that speed for their cars. Supercars often have a 'legal' switch which does this, or, like the Gt-R, auto-sensing navigation that turns the limiter off when you're at a racetrack. I believe Tesla did this for the sake of battery safety and avoiding increased cases of drive motor failure. Of course, they couldn't REALLY make a difference for those two components unless they limited their cars to 90mph. And considering their sales pitch to rich yobs to sell these things, THAT ain't gonna happen.

Your cars speedometer can be up to 10 mph off by law. Police radar guns are more accurate then your speedo.This is because the last 10 mph of accuracy require very expensive hardware.

Maybe the speed radar thing on the little dashboard where it shows how fats ur going it doesn’t move up because the Tesla doesn’t really go that fast and also u have the 100d so it not really meant to go fast but maybe the p100d is meant to got fast cause it a preference model

having the car at 100% would definitely help, as batteries drop in voltage as they are depleted, also, more efficient tires can also help as well as cleaning brake callipers to make sure the brakes aren't seizing and squeezing the rotors, in general just reduce energy losses, as they are the main limiting factors aside from power that limit top speed

There are limitations of the motors for longevity of the motors life cycle and batteries that is why it is limited you may be able mod these but depending on what i.e. software running gear ratio ect

Sounds like a safety feature to stop you caning your battery - I doubt they can safely provide that much power and even if they could, you'd probably permanently knacker it. Even in normal use they recqiure serious active cooling.
