We all know that Jay Gatsby and the Buchanans are important, but Nick Carraway, the narrator of 'The Great Gatsby', holds the key to a lot of insights into all the characters in the novel. In this video, I discuss why Nick is a likeable narrator despite his unreliable narration. Detailed analysis of quotations, stylistic and narrative techniques from throughout the novel. Don't miss out if you want top grades on your next Gatsby essay or assessment!

this was so helpful!!! I really wanted to learn more about narration to apply it to essays and i cant' wait to try it out. Do you have any other videos planned for Gatsby, ahead of the alevel exams?

Not ahead of, but definitely open to creating more Gatsby content in the next year, if you have any topics to recommend!

Thank you for the lovely feedback - I appreciate it! Have you seen my other LOTF close reading video where I analyse the opening paragraphs of the novel? (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH_VcniGlNpkbbc) I will probably get round to doing more LOTF videos at some point this year, yes, so stay tuned / subscribe if you haven't already! Are there any skills / general lit-related topics you'd like to see videos on? It'd be easier for me to work on those because more people can benefit from them :)

What are some the poets you're studying for Love Through the Ages (Keats...?) I have a long pipeline to get through right now ahead of this year's exams, but if you join my Membership Program (see 'Join' under my videos) I can prioritise your requests! :)

Why does Gatsby turn out alright in the end?

For me, it's the fact that Nick had always been alone be it romantically or platonically. He seemed to have been an only, we never heard anything of his mother (so she may've died early in Nick's life) or other, more immediate cousins (just aunts and uncles). Then WWI came about and, if you've heard of "All Quiet On The Western Front", it was RUTHLESS with the vets. There's also the fact that Nick was supposed to have had a roommate until something happened that led Nick to live alone with his Finnish maid (who he seemed to have had a hard time conversing with due to language barriers). His own dog even ran away! Mix all that along with that girl back in the West, that secretary with her over-protective brother along with Jordan and Gatsby, Nick's life was mess. A lonely mess.

I think people also forget the fact that in the beginning of the story, Nick is writing this account of his life, while he is in rehab for alcohol addiction…
