It's not only Putin. Aggressive Imperialistic mentality is characteristic for most Russians, thinking that all their smaller neighbor-countries must be obedient to Kremlin is common. Russians are escaping from Russia only because they are seeing that victory in regular war is impossible. I have an important and very honest question. Considering the unprecedented nature of the aggression perpetrated by Russia against a United Nations member state, flying in the face of the very reason of existence of that organization, and against its very charter, Would the expulsion of the RF from the UN be a possibility? Could the Russian be expelled from the UN? Would such a move pave the legal grounds for the independence of current subjects of the RF and their recognition as new members of the UN? This would prevent a probable Russian civil war, extinguish the Russian Federation (paving the way for its denuclearization), and end the war in Ukraine.

Excellent interview and very thoughtful and articulate guest. Your guest rightly notes that the Russian threats of nuclear weapons use has successfully prevented direct Western involvement in the conflict. This has forced Ukraine to resist without direct help and with less material support than they otherwise might have received, but I wonder if perhaps the Russian military failures in spite of the limits of Western help may make the unexpected weakness of the Russian military and political system look much worse for them then if they were suffering losses due to direct Western involvement. I think it makes it much harder for the Russians to maintain an aura of great power when suffering so much damage from the Ukrainian army even in spite of the limitations the West has imposed on itself in its support of the Ukrainians. It certainly appears that the obvious signs of Russian weakness are gradually degrading their already limited international support. It's much easier for small countries with some dependence on Russia for weapons or other types of assistance to criticize the invasion of Ukraine once the weaknesses of the Russian army and state become more and more obvious.

The rate at which the domestic landscape for Putin is changing is sure to culminate in his removal from power soon. In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind. - E. B.

Um - no, they really don't. What those types control is a relatively small percentage of the "minds" - such as they are, ahem - of the entire population. The rest of the people are willing to "play along" as long as their daily lives are severely disrupted. So now we see a perfect example of how NOT to be a monster dictator taking place in Russia. Bwwwahahahahahahaaaaa.

"Then, that deterrence goes..." Well, _everything_ goes. Unless NATO is somehow capable of hitting every land/sea/air based launch platform before they even have time to react.
@robinlillian94712 жыл бұрын
NATO is NOT going for a first strike. That would just start WW3 when all Putin's bluster is BS. Ukraine has already almost pushed him out. Ukraine is getting the fast track into NATO, and those troops will KEEP him in his own country. IF he wants to commit suicide with a first strike, his own people will have to refuse if they want to live. Retaliation would be automatic. as soon as the missiles were detected in the air.

Russia's "deterrence" cuts both ways. It has kept NATO boots out of Ukraine, which boots may have not much support in the West, since no NATO country has been attacked. But, it has also shown that Ukrainian solders alone are superior to Russian soldiers, which is very humiliating to Putin.
@blackcatdungeonmastersfami53112 жыл бұрын
Why do you think Ukrainian soldiers are superior? They outnumber the Russians three to one and are taking higher losses. What didn't the media tell you that?

When Russia agreed to be in the UN they agreed to abide by UN standards of behavior. There must be a penalty for them having ignored and making a mockery of the UN. At the very LEAST Russia must be removed from the Security Council. Beyond that they must continue to be sanctioned if Putin’s autocracy continues.

It is possible Mr Putin feels an obligation to the indigenous Russians in the area. Not something that could gain easy credibility in the profit motivated West, but Russia has had over 100 years of post revolutionary life, and the current Kremlin is clearly a product of that evolutionary period. Which explains why Russia is so obsessively and irrationally hated in America

Listened to Putin's speech. He didn't seem to know who agreed the un charter. It was stalin, FDR and Churchill at yalta. I thought he might have known that, being an international statesman and all.
