I still remember my first time fighting Red as a kid. I was playing Crystal at the time and when I went up Mt. Silver and saw Red I didn't know it was him at first and thought he was a normal NPC who will give me some cool item. When I went to talk to him I was surprised that it became a battle, then the music kicked in giving me chills as it played the champions music and not fully understanding what I got myself into. When I saw Red I was speechless then became very excited as I couldn't believe that I was about to fight my player character from Red and Yellow Version. I send out my Lv 65 Feraligatr thinking I was going to destroy his team but when he sent out his Lv 81 Pikachu time felt liked it stopped as I became slack-jawed of how OP he was as Red proceeds to destroy my team when I battled him.

If i rember correctly there is a glitch in the sequels that can get you all starters. All you do is save before choosing your starter play the game without saving till you catch a pokemon. Catch the pokemon and put your starter in the pc. Change boxes and when it says saving dont turn off the power reset the game and you should still have the starter in your pc. Reatarting puts you back to the point of choosing your starter so you can do it another time and get all 3 starters

Is the gold and silver Red really more difficult than in the remakes? HGSS Red's team is 7 levels higher, has permanent hail, half his team can spam blizzard in said hail, his Pikachu holds a Light Ball doubling it's offenses and overall has more coverage on each of his mons.

Yes Gen 2 was still Gen 2 not Gen 4. The stat Total of Red's Pokemon is effectively far higher in Gen 2 than Gen 4 thanks to the stat changed introduced in Gen 3 (exacerbated further with Johto's leveling), Gen 2 Espeon and Gen 2 Snorlax are entirely different beasts than Gen 4 Laparus and Gen 4 Snorlax, and the pool of pokemon in Gen 2 that can be used agaisnt Red is a lot less than in HG/SS so the less coverage isn't as important. Basically Red was intentionally set up as a Challenge in Gen 2's mechanics, as the intended Final Fight. Gen 4 Red was a callback and altered only a bit, but not enough to provide as much of a challenge as he was in Gen 2 (the other factors of Gen 4 also effectively nerf him, like better Pokemon/Movepool, far better level scaling, and the fact he was known about from the begining by quite a lot of people means a lot of people prepared for him far far more than his initial suprise appearance in G/S)

Gen 2 (and HG/SS), being a sequel, is why they are my favorite Pokemon games. The revisiting of Kanto in a new light and the final battle of the game being Red was great! I liked how challenging he felt. Having to grind in order to defeat him made beating him feel so rewarding. The grind didn't really feel like a grind because there was sense of determination, which is something that is missing from a lot of the newer games.

It would've been nice to face one or the other depending on if you chose to be a boy or a girl

I would've loved if the BW characters were the League Champion instead of Iris, maybe depending on our character's gender like fighting the one who is the opposite gender of our BW2 character and whose starter is the one who's strong against the one we chose. I was so disappointed when i saw Cheren as the 1st Gym leader too, i really thought if he was a Gym Leader he should've been the last one, not the first one. And Iris as Champion was disappointing too, 1) i was really expecting to fight someone else like Alder, Cheren or Hilbert/Hilda, 2) she was so weak, that was not even funny... and 3) in gen 5 a Dragon Master only having like half her team as Dragon types was a let down too.

I don't know why everyone thinks you have to grind for Red. The game is designed in such a way so that you never have to grind. People have this misconception that the way you beat Pokemon is by over-leveling your Pokemon to be strong rather than actually developing a strategy to help you come out on top in the end. It's kinda sad because this mindset lead Gamefreak to stop encouraging this kind of gameplay and just let you over-level easier in later games.

I think Red is so strong in GSC because presumably "Red" has completed the pokedex by the time you battle him in mt. silver, so if you the player also went and completed the pokedex, you would have a bunch of extra battles, elite four grinding, etc, and by that point you would probably have lvl 70 pokemon at least, so it makes sense that Blue's pokemon in the viridian gym are only lvl 58, and then it's up to you to go the extra mile and train for Red. I always loved this battle, and it was a total surprise when I found Red for the first time playing when I was a kid. I'm glad with the gen 8 games pokemon brought back a little more of that wonder and mystique that I missed from the early games

So I realised that the level system in Gen 2 would've been fixed if Lake Of Rage could only be accessed with a Strength puzzle (there because of Gyarados' thrashing or something), make beating Jasmine unlock Strength (taking the Strength puzzle out of Chuck's gym), then bam. It means everything from the Lake Of Rage onwards can safely be a good 7-8 levels higher, making the elite four end up at lv57-ish. Know what this means? Kanto's gyms can all be about 7-10 levels higher, same for the wild Pokemon. Keeping Red at lv73-81 would also mean he's easier to grind for but still not too easy. If the level pacing was normal, HGSS would be my all time favourite games. It's the ONE thing that puts them behind Gen 5 for me.

Here's a theory based on episode 15 of the Pokemon Sword and Shield anime: Gou's father is also Ash's father. Here's my explanation: Ash's father hasn't been seen in the Pokemon anime at all so far. I think that Gou's father at some point got Delia pregnant whilst still together with her and either got Gou's mum pregnant before or after this, depending on who out of Ash and Gou you think is the oldest. This would have happened whilst he was still travelling and training. I think that Gou's father came to some sort of agreement with Delia after Ash was born and then went to live with Gou's mum. He also could have just as easily not done that and just left Delia with no explanation. Then when Gou was between the ages of 0 and 2, Gou, his mother and his father moved to the city they now live in to live in. Of course all contact with Delia was lost. I think Gou's father took the first few years of Gou's life to find his feet then maybe got a few jobs before settling with the one that he has in episode 15. Then when Gou was around 3 or 4 he met his new best friend and her father the professor (don't know their English names). I think that this is the time that Gou developed his love for research and Pokemon on a whole which is why he spent so much time looking for rare pokemon. Not long after, Gou's father enrolls him in the education program with Professor Oak seen in episode 1 which is where his love for Pokemon and Mew grows stronger. Of course, he never meets Ash but I do think that Gou's father intended for them to meet due to their similar personalities and love for Pokemon. Skip forward to episode 15 and I think that the reason Gou's father didn't react in such a way in front of Ash is because he didn't want Ash and Gou knowing that they are brothers. He may have also told at least Gou's mum and watched Ash during his league matches, reminiscing of when he used to be a trainer himself. Apart from the obvious facial differences, Ash's hair colour, Gou's hair colour and Gou's father's hair colour are all the same. However, Ash's hair style is different from Gou's and his father's. They all do feel the same (if you know what I mean) and their personalities are also similar-ish, especially Ash and Gou's. So feel free to elaborate on my theory and extend it, criticise it etc.

People seem to give Johto flack for being connected by Kanto which I find crazy; gen 2 was designed to be a sequel it wasn't supposed to be standalone like the ones after it to begin with Also, I don't actually mind the fact that levels don't scale as high; considering how legendaries are between level 40-70 I doubt many people (canonically) would really be able to reach such heights of strength (gyms 5,6 & 7 could be challenged in any order)

I really wish I'd gotten HGSS, because I never got the chance to experience the pokemon master as a kid. I would've gotten absolutely destroyed, not a doubt, but it would have been incredible finding him and watching my team fall apart, before I kept running up there to try and beat that mute punk. Would have had less of an impact cause the LG copy I got was with Leaf at like the second gym, and smoll boi never reset progress.

So thanks to Pokémon Masters, we now know the canon trainers are: Red Brendan Lucas Hilda Rosa Not sure if the Canon trainers for Johto can be figured out through dialogue since I haven't unlocked any of them. And since Calem is the only Kalos I'm tempted to say he's Canon, but I just couldn't find any evidence.

Pokémon Masters actually has nothing to do with the main canon. The caracters that we see there are clearly from different universes as this game is just a spinoff.

If I remember, his pikachu was also holding a light ball in that battle

I beat red with 20 levels lower Pokémon. I felt so proud as a kid. When I saw that pikachu I swear my face went pale. Snorlax was the only Pokémon I had issues with since my team didn’t have any fighting type Pokémon.

Was it just a rumor that Red's Pikachu had a Light Ball that boosted its stats? Feels so long since I battled Red in Crystal, just trying to recall my team. I must have had Tyranitar, I remember spending a lot of time training him up. And I think that I remember finding his Snorlax a huge problem since it kept healing itself, and had to think of ways around Rest.

I was able to beat Red back in my Crystal version with my highest level pokemon being a level 61 slowbro. As long as you play it smart with super effective moves and status conditions, the battle is relatively easy
@SirDanwal4 жыл бұрын
I managed to beat him with a level 50 to 60 team of typhlosion, crobat and poliwrath so u just have to use the right moves.

I beat him in Silver version, Hands down the hardest battle i have ever had in a Pokemon game.

@@alucard8433 ultra necrozma was more difficult imo
@alucard84334 жыл бұрын
@@alchouinard6090 The difference between them for me was in Silver version you are at a major level disadvantage when you come across Red and this is back when the games first came out and the internet was still relatively new so you could not look up guides to games like you can now. So you were not expecting to just have a fight against Red at the end of the game. Ultra Necrozma was a hard fight but i beat it first try mainly because the Exp Share. Had it not been for the Exp Share i might have been at a major level disadvantage at that point in the game but i never felt under leveled in USUM.

Some hard counters can be caught early in game. Magneton for blastoise and archanine for venusaur poliwrath for charizard and snorlax and to finish tyranitar for Pikachu and espeon

What would your team as a gym leader or a champion be?

My first time playing silver, I had no idea red was up there so I was just in the low 60s after beating the Elite 4 a few times. I barely managed to win first try thanks to a few lucky crits.

Hi Bird Keeper Toby, not sure if you’ve done this or not but could you make canon teams for the protagonists based on story and the characters’ personalities?
@vinniequick3 жыл бұрын
What if the console scanned your gen 1 game abs took the team you have/had you at that time levels, moves and name that would have been epic Also if you had the same name on both then would be OG whatever name and just normal your old save name if different

I never knew that Red was the father of gen 3's weather hacks. And how tough he was back in the day. Cause Cynthia was the toughest for me by far aside of Whitney. And then also Wallace (but that was because Milotic and Ludicolo and a very tanky Wishcash were on his team. and all the sheer amount of double team spams in gen 3. Particularly with Sydney and Drake leading to Wallace. Wally, Drake, Sydney and Juan frustrated me because of double team paeticularly on Kingra because it's only full weakness back then was dragon. Also I wish it'd let me play Masters.

I love all about the battle against Red, against your past self, you have to beat the wall that you yourself build, you have to go beyond yourself, idk is so poetic... P.D: Sorry for bad english :c P:D: Happy #PokemonDay Toby, and to you guys

Is that Esepeon serebii? then i do correct not to trust their mistakes. oras did the same with rebattling gym leaders, unova games did the same too. it's common in older pokemon games to have a hugelevel gap

I found out about red kind of late so when I finally battled him it was kind of easy only problem I had was with snorlax because he kept spamming rest and regained health then hit me with snore. I had my feraligatr around 70 something when I first battled red and don’t remember the rest of my team
