After looking into this a bit more, I've managed to discover something that I think would more place each region more accurately and that being the Pokemon, Shellos and Gastrodon. If you don't know, Shellos and Gastrodon have two different forms depending on which side they appear on Sinnoh's mountain ranges aka. Mt. Coronet, the West Sea and East Sea Form. However, Shellos and Gastrodon have appeared in the wild in other regions with their unique forms but what's interesting about this is that since then, only one form of the Shellos line has appeared in the wild. And because of this, it pretty much confirms that Sinnoh is in the middle of the Pokemon Earth if you flatten it out on a map and should be somewhat straightforward to roughly pinpoint where each region is based on that fact. In Kalos, you go to the Friend Safari, you'll be able to only find West Sea Gastrodon which does fit where it appears on your map. In Alola, if you go to Poni Island, you'll be able to only find East Sea Gastrodon where if you move every region on your map to the left, then would fit as well. In Galar, throughout the region, you'll be able to only find East Sea forms of the Shellos Line where it would need to be moved on the map in order the fit. And in the Pokemon Ranger games, Shadows of Almia and Guardian Signs, you can find only the West Sea Shellos Line and I think putting around where the Orre Region is would make it fit a bit better. Now the interesting ones are where they can be found in Johto and Hoenn, regions where they didn't exist prior to Gen 4. In Johto, you can actually find a West Sea Shellos on the Pokewalker (which is likely somewhere around Johto/close to Sinnoh) making it fit on your current map but then we get to Hoenn that's more difficult where depending on which version, you can encounter both forms of Shellos which would seem impossible, but I think the way we can make this work is like what you said where Groudon or Kyorge managed to destroy a good chunk of Hoenn in the past so much that it potentally moved it slightly to either the West or East or maybe the simple way is that Regigigas moved Hoenn it slightly further in one version compared to the other. Now of course, this is just a bit of an observation that was just made for fun, but it would be cool that maybe when you do another revision of the map in the future, potentially when Gen 9 comes out, then you could take this observation into account.

I always assumed that Hoenn was directly south of Sinnoh. Also, Hello from the future! Apparently both forms can also be found in Paldea. However, East Sea is apparently decreasing in number, while West Sea is increasing. To me that says Paldea is East of Sinnoh, but West Sea is expanding its range and displacing it

Now that Gen 9 is out, we have a problem with this theory. Both forms of Shellos/Gastrodon can be found in Paldea, and they are distributed with respect to the Paldea region itself. West Sea is found on beaches on the Western side of the region, while East Sea is found on beaches on the Eastern side. Pokemon appears to be just as consistent as it is inconsistent. Hopefully, at least, Paldea's DLC area will clarify it's position relative to Kalos. It lies in the same part of Paldea as the area Spain and France are located, which are the real world locations they are based on. There's also a lot of speculative evidence that the past Paradox Forms found in Scarlet are probably the source of the forms brought about by Mega Evolution. So having these 2 regions tied closely together would make a lot of sense, given the 2 disperate mechanics.

There a reason why developer go to the real world area and use that as a template to creating their games. In fact, the game itself even show us the actual planet Earth Map that is similar to ours, which contradict everything you say.

@@DaiMie Considering humans in the Pokemon world are slightly superhuman (Some have psychic powers, use aura, fighters can break rocks, see spirits ect.) It wouldn't suprise me that some swimmers can swim REALLY far.

@@revolvingworld2676 Well, according to one of the myths in the Sinnoh region, there "was a time when there existed no differences to distinguish the two," referring to pokemon and humans. So, if that is taken very literally, this could mean that pokemon and humans actually diverged from a common ancestor over time. I'm not sure what they would call this sort of real-world evolution in the Pokemon universe, since evolution is obviously something different to them. However, the Pokedex does also have several entries that implies natural selection. For example, in Pokemon Sun, Chinchou's entry states that "its two antennae were originally fins," and in Pokemon Moon, the fossil pokemon Tirtouga's entry states, "reputed to be the ancestor of most turtle pokemon, it lived in warm seas approximately a hundred million years ago." So, the fact that there are certain humans with special abilities might actually be the remnants of ancient pokemon powers. Sort of like how snakes are very rarely born with tiny legs, because their parents happen to be carriers of the ancient, degraded gene for legs.

In Sword and Shield, there’s a hiker in Stow-On-Side that speaks Spanish. So that hints at Spain, Mexico, or other Spanish speaking countries. Also, Copperajah is directly based on an Indian elephant, but is stated to have come from “another region,” not India. Which ties up the loose end of the "indian elephant" statements made in the Pokedex, since Copperajah is based on an indian elephant and so should be from India, but is from "another region," implying there is a Pokemon world equivalent of India. Also I have to say, the idea of Kanto being close to Alola because people from Kanto settled it doesn’t make sense. Plenty of places throughout world history have been settled by people from very different countries.

The only real world places where that happens is the straight of dover (and possibly some other places, but that's easily the most famous), but those connections are still really close. And all of that is still really exhausting and a roughly half day swim.

In the first ranger game, Sinnoh is described as "somewhere far away" In the second ranger game, the egg is "returned to its habitat" and "drifted from a faraway sea" In Guardian Signs, the egg is to by sent to a "trainer from another region" None of them mention Sinnoh being the closest region. Bulbapedia claims that the games mention this but... perhaps it is the Japanese versions that say it? Because the English versions don't.

I agree with Toby that these 3 regions are likely close to one another but my point is that nowhere in any of these games does it mention Sinnoh being close. 2. The only screenshot is @14:56. He displayed it once. It isn't even the "faraway" quote. He mentioned Sinnoh being the closest region @3:13 and @6:30 but again, there is no quote from any of the games that explicitly states that Sinnoh is close.

I'm pretty sure Galar is close to Kalos. There's a very high chance that the darkest day happened because of AZ firing the ultimate weapon, since both events happened at the same time. That wouldn't make sense if Galar was far from Kalos.

The swimmer saying he swam all the way to Kalos from Hoenn is most definitely a hint to ORAS considering the couple in the hotel saying different wedding anniversaries are the Ruby and Sapphire anniversaries. So I don’t think that the swimmer is anything of a hint as to where Kalos is aside from a hint at the next games

I love that you made the connection between Alola and the Orange Islands. That just annoys me that noone counts it, it's clearly Alola's predecessor. Ash won the Orange League, and Alola The Orange League 'gyms' have puzzles, like Alola Alternate method of traveling, Ash uses Lapras

@@bastionsea2829 The orange island location on the anime maps are in the same location as the sevii islands in in game maps. Both of which roughly line up with the real world Izu and bonin islands. To argue that the Alola in some way connected or are part of or a stand-in to the orange islands in the Anime you'd have to ignore either that the map in the anime is wrong on the location of the orange islands. That the location of the sevii islands is wrong in the games. And ignore it's real world counterpart. (on top of that the whole "Kanto is close but far away" of in-game text makes sense if you look at a real world map of Hawaii and Japan. Kanto is the closest known Pokemon region to Alola, if you use the real world as the goto, but distance wise still really far away. If the Alola was an orange islands stand in Kanto would simply just be close by when looking at maps from the anime) Or in simple terms what is the orange islands in the anime are the sevii islands in game

But the only connection the orange islands and alola has is that they're both largely tropical group of islands and there are gym challenges that aren't just battles (but rather something else and a battle). The last being already present since the first gen games, and arguably the orange islands were just showing of that idea rather than just showing the battles. Which really just leaves them both being a tropical island group. The sevii islands are also tropical however and have far more in common with the orange islands.

Additionally if we are to use moving continents as a tool then we must use real life equivalents like tectonic movement. For example: South America and Africa were once part of the same landmass but split millions of years ago and drifted apart through millennia. Now Madagascar and Africa were once connected but so was India. India, after splitting from Africa, floated around as an island before colliding with Asia and forming the Himalayas. But because of their shared time as one landmass you can find animals that look similar (and are from the same common ancestor) as well as fossils. But they aren’t close to each other. So using Regigigas as an example it is possible that the borders Kalos shares with Hoenn and Johto look like they line up perfectly because they were probably once on the same landmass but were torn and moved by Regigigas to their current location. It also makes more sense for the Regis to be found in Hoenn if it was closer to Sinnoh as Ancient Peoples may not have had been capable of traversing such long distances such as having Kalos and the continent south of it creating such a huge distance between Sinnoh and Hoenn.

I believe it said mew was found in the rainforests of Guyana in South America. What I found interesting is that that rainforest in the real world is called the Iwokrama Rainforest. It also goes through a place called French Guiana. That area of land is part of France even though it's in South America. So it wouldn't be too far of a stretch that in the Pokemon world Guyana is a disconnected part of Kalos.

As far as I am aware, there are none of them present in the games. But it wouldn't really help unless you knew the geography. The only time that idea was ever used is Detective Pikachu in the game on the ship. Because the Nosepass couldn't move, he couldn't see the pokemon who stole art.

The way I personally address all of the in game references to the real world, or to real animals, is that they are simply place holders until a future game introduces a region or Pokémon that is it's equivalent. As you say, any Diamond and Pearl remakes would likely refer to Fantina as being from Kalos, and likewise if a future game includes Raichu's Pokédex entry about being able to knock out an Indian Elephant, I suspect it will instead refer to Copperajah. If we apply this retroactively we can also eliminate a few other references to the real world. Lt. Surge who is also known as the "Lightning American" could perhaps be the "Lightning Unovan", which is hinted at by dialogue at the World Tournament in Black 2 and White 2. Even if he's not from Unova he could be from a different, currently unreleased region, set on the same landmass and based on a different part of the USA. As far as placing the regions is concerned, I believe there is one major piece of evidence missed out here: Shellos and Gastrodon. In all of the Sinnoh games, the distribution of these Pokémon is obvious, West Sea Shellos on the west of Mt. Coronet and East Sea Shellos on the east. However, in other regions Shellos and Gastrodon are not distributed in the same way. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, both East Sea and West Sea Shellos are available on Routes 103 and 110, though only one form in each game. What is more interesting is the distribution of Shellos and Gastrodon in Kalos, Alola and Galar. In Kalos you can only catch West Sea Gastrodon in the Friend Safari, which is notably on the EAST of the region. In Alola, East Sea Gastrodon can be cought on Poni Wilds, the most WESTERN point in the region. And in Galar only East Sea Shellos is native, though they are spread fairly evenly east to west. Therefore, I believe that Shellos are perhaps distributed not depending on which coast they are on but which side of a global east-west divide they are on. By looking at their distribution within each region, they are most populous in Sinnoh which could imply that they were originally from Sinnoh, and the presence of an east-west divide (Mt. Coronet) could explain the existence of two different forms, which then spread across the remainder of the world. If we take this to be the case, we could then place Kalos, Alola and Galar on one side or the other, while Hoenn would perhaps be in line with Sinnoh, seeing as it is the only other region home to both forms of Shellos.

Alola and Galar are east of Sinnoh with Unova being in between them, while Kalos is west of Japan (But its Eastern border touches the west of Japanese regions). This way, both Alolan and Galarian western borders face Sinnohs eastern border. I think the world looks like this as we currently know it. Kanto and Johto connected. Kanto is in the East and Johto is in the west. Hoenn is too the South of Johto, West from the Sevii Islands Sinnoh is to the NorthEast of Johto and NorthWest of Kanto, connecting them via the Sinjoh Ruins Kalos is west of Johto and Sinnoh, Northeast from Hoenn (So basically the starter town in Kalos touches Water going to Hoenn) West of Kalos is Galar (As such, its east from Sinnoh) Alola is West from Kanto. Unova is west from Galar and east from Alola. This is basically the only explanation you can make about the East Sea and West Sea Shellos appearance in the regions.

Thank you for recognising Plymouth, when I first played through the game and got to Hulbery I was so excited to see my childhood city in a pokemon game! Hoenn has to be near Kanto’s Sevii Islands, when considering the event islands for Ho-oh, Lugia, and Deoxys. It also needs to be near Sinnoh, because of the Regis being in both Hoenn and Sinnoh. Or it’s all just a wild goose chase for a map that can’t feasibly exist, but eh, whatever.

Hoenn is Kyushu Japan, while Sinnoh is Hokkaido Japan. Sevii Islands are islands to the south of Kanto. Just go west from the Sevii Islands & you should find yourself in the waters of Hoenn.

While some cities could just be districts of existing cities like the place from Hypno's Nap Time being part of Celadon City for example. Then you had the crazy route mistakes between Cerulean City & Vermillion City. That's just early Season 1 wait until you get to the Orange Islands, Movie Locations & later seasons. The Games though Kanto is literally just an underdeveloped poor man's Tokyo (Kanto of Japan), Johto is Chubu & half of Kansai. Hoenn is Kyushu that was likely rotated by the battle between Groudon & Kyogre or Regigigas. Sinnoh is Hokkaido & the real world Sevii Islands exist as well to the south of Kanto. Unova is based on the area around New York City. Kalos is based on France, Alola is Hawaii, Galar is UK. Orre is supposed to be the Southwestern States with Phenac being based on Phoenix & Realgam Tower having similarities to Las Vegas. The Western Parts like Gateon Port, Pokemon HQ Lab, & Agate Village are supposedly California. It should be noted that we never see the Chugoku or Tohoku regions of Japan in the Pokemon World as well.

I don’t remember seeing this land anywhere in the Pokémon series, but there’s an island in the north part of the map which looks the sinnoh region. I am a bit of a geography and worldbuilding nerd, so I've been trying to estimate where the Pokémon regions are based on things like climate, species distribution (especially Shellos), and in game lore. What it seems so far is that it roughly lines up with the real world, but with differences. Some differences include Hoenn seemingly being just south of Sevii, land being more evenly distributed between "Eurasia" and "North America", and then the horrible enigma that is Galar. Galar seems to be located off the West coast of Pokémon's "South America", close to the antarctic, which is evidenced by the formation of deserts around the region, the fact that Shellos implies it is east of Sinnoh (and seemingly Hoenn, where both forms occur), the fact that in the south, it is below freezing year round at sea level, the abundance of Unovan Pokémon, and the existence of Stow-on-Side, which seems to reference Andean culture. As for the swimmers, they could either be lying or they have been able to swim around the world by taking breaks on islands/coasts, and by being supehuman by our standards. This wouldn't surprise me, I mean we see swimmers doing laps in the ocean on water routes for Pete's sake! And to add to the idea that humans are just tougher in the Pokémon world, look at Kukui, who constantly lets Pokémon attack him! Also a minor nitpick, according to Bulbapedia, Sinnoh has been said to be an island, and Sinnoh was actually said to be fairly far from Fiore. These might be wrong or only apply to the anime, idk, but that's what I read.

I love the work you put into this, and it all seems to be correct, but I think you're forgetting one important factor, which is Shellos and Gastrodon. I'm basing this on Bulbapedia, but in every pair of games which are based in one region, only one form of Shellos and Gastrodon are available in the wild (except for ORAS where both, and Unova where neither are present in the wild). If you take a look at which form of Shellos and Gastrodon appear in which games, then you can get a rough picture of which region should be located East and West of Mount Coronet, therefore Shinnoh. Based on this, Galar should be located East to Sinnoh, since you can only get Shellos's East sea form in Sword and Shield. Maybe Hoenn is exactly South of Sinnoh (with Johto and Kanto in between), and that's why you can get both kinds of Shellos there, maybe routes 103 and 110 are directly South of Mount Coronet, since those are the routes where you can obtain Shellos in ORAS. A different thing - where do you think Pasio from Pokemon Masters would be located?

Aside from me looking forward to your take on Paldea, there are a couple other regions I think you should mention. One of them being the Ransei region from Pokemon Conquest. The other being the Mystery Dungeon games, because I am honestly curious about where you think those are located. Also if you take notice of Guardian Sign's region, Oblivia, it looks oddly similar to an upside down version of Alola. With the way it is, this could represent the missing 4 islands of Hawaii. I would love to hear about your take on this outlook in a future video.

In the Pokémon anime it takes about a day to reach Alola from Kanto. I think the two are still too close together, and Alola should be moved further East. Also about Alola being the in-game version of the Orange Islands: I would say that whilst they probably had a lot of inspiration from Orange, I don’t think they are the same thing. Again in the anime, the characters visit both areas and they are clearly separate. And we know regional variations exist not just in Alola but Galar, too, so the argument that they are the same based on their closeness and the regional variants doesn't really hold up. Best to keep them as separate territories. Anyway, I think Orange is still classed as Kanto anyway.

To your country thingy, remeber that the National dex implies all of those regions are from the same country. The only regions that don't have a national dex are Alola and Galar, we know that Galar is because of the cut but what if we swipped places of it with Hoenn and that explains everything. Alola and Galar are diferent countries but Kanto, Jotho, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos are in the same country which also fits geographycally with your map.

No, Kanto Johto Hoenn and Sinnoh are all based off various islands in Japan. Unova is US (which is why its specifically stated that it's so far away from the first four regions and is only accessible by plane, and has no pokemon native from previous gens) Kalos is france, Eiffel Tower- Luminous city, many French references in game. Alola is obviously Hawaii, and then Galar is based off the UK, the expansions based off Isle of Man (Isle of Armour) and Scotland (crown tundra)

For me the pokemon world is a variant of earth that lines up close to our geography with some differences like England being upside down. Fiore is based on the Aomori prefecture of Japan, Almia is the southern tip of Hokkaido, and I believe Oblivia is based on the island of Nishinoshima. It's possible for Fiore and Almia to be switched, im not sure.

Well....there are Swimmer in the real world who literally swam across the world before. So having him going from Sinnoh which is based in Japan and going to Kalos, isn't entirely impossible. Also, if he swim inland, like rivers, he have a lot of places to take rest and will get there quickly. But if he go coastal of the main land, it would take awhile.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but this may help stabilize certain theories. In Log Horizon, when the map of the in game world was being explained, they mention how the distance between the towns is half of what the real-world equivalence would be. They referred to this as the “Half Gaia Project”. If we were to take the in game designs of the towns in all prior Pokémon games, replaced a single house with about 2-3 city blocks equivalence of buildings, it would help to visualize what it would look like as an actual town/city. Pallet Town would be more than just 2 houses and a laboratory to study Pokémon. It would help fill in a lot of gaps in the continents or help shape the size of the supposed planet that this world resides in.

Want a simpler to pronounce example of a country with part of it separated quite a bit? The US. Alaska is separated from it by part of Canada. Hawaii is pretty far off the coast, enough to not properly fit on a map of the US in the right area. Then there's the interpretation of them including colonies, thus part of the country but at the same time not. Like until a colony earns recognition, some people will call it part of the country that owns it, some will consider it separate. But that's a harder to prove option

Ive always considered they phased out the real world locations, a very long time ago. They also startign doing other stuff in merchandising with phasing out what food is and being more obscure. Remember the remakes of Leaf Green etc also renamed that shuttle. I do think Earth and real life do fit into our system somehow though. Pokemon GO existing 20 years after pokemons initial inception. We also some sort of links to the Giovanni in the game , could this tie in with Sun and Moon which were kind of celebrations of the pokemon history at the time. every region has been based on their respective real work locations, putting them right where they would be in the real world. yes pokemon plays with the geography a bit, but i can tell you now there ws a man irl who attempted to swim from france to japan. it was a thing. that aside each region has routes, gen 1-4 had continuous routes where every other region in other parts of the world all start from 1 again cause they arnt connected. if you are going to ignore some stuff just to make other stuff work then might as well throw it all out and stick with the pokemon worth just being regular earth but with pokemon and an alternate history

I’m not sure if this is game fact or fiction, but I believe at one point in the development of RSE that the area around Fallarbor was going to connect to Johto’s Claswood like how Kanto connects to Johto This was supported by the fact that these games were supposed to be the last and Sinnoh wasn’t supposed to exist. Not sure if this was true or not, but I remember a PokeTuber speak of it from an interview or something

Take a look at a map of real world Japan & compare it to maps of the Pokemon World, you'll notice Hokkaido looks exactly like Sinnoh. Kanto region is likely based on the geography of the real world Kanto region, only Tokyo never became a Mega City in Pokemon's World. Hoenn is Japan's Kyushu Region rotated 90 Degrees. Galar is an upsidedown UK from what we understand. We can only assume that either Galar views the world upsidedown with South being where North should be or something in the Pokemon World is capable of rotating entire islands. It should be noted that there are 2 Japanese Regions that Pokemon never really gave us according to Wikipedia. Honshu the main Japanese Island has 5 real world regions Chugoku, Kansai, Chubu, & Kanto from West to East & then the Tohoku region to the north of Kanto & Chubu. Pokemon's Johto region is based on Eastern Kansai & Chubu. We need to someday visit the region based on Chugoku & Western Kansai as I suspect we'll find routes 49-100 there & in Northern Johto. Route 200 is probably a route that connects Sinnoh to the mystery region based on Tohoku. Because of how many small sets of Islands surround Japan I have no clue what the Sevii & Orange Islands are supposed to represent. Wikipedia claims there's the Izu Islands directly south of Kanto & then the Bonin Islands further south than that. bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_world_in_relation_to_the_real_world is a rough estimation although even then there's some question as to how much of Kansai is included in Johto & how far north Kanto & Johto of the games actually extend for Honshu. To be honest, I just think the real world exist in the Pokémon universe and that's where human come from but it is a diferent planet. probably conected by the Ultraumbral and such, it makes so much sense that way. It also explain the indian elephant thing when we have Pokémon inspired by indian elephants.

Humans are clearly stated to have evolved from Pokemon in Gen 4 and that make sense considering they have humans that can use psychic abilities which can't happen in the real world. And humans are known to be able to turn into ghost Pokemon after dying like Yamask and Phantump.

@@wintersong2266 No, it is not clearly stated to evolve from Pokémon. It is stated that Pokémon and humans were treated as equals which is a diferent thing. They do say they once were the same but this could mean just both being considered people in a classical manner. Also, not all humans gain psychic habilities and these are absurdily rare, and the evidence for that is kinda loose. It could also have alternative explanations like technology that allows for slight levitation of items which is not cheap.

We know based on the anime that Unova Alola are probably the farthest regions from Kanto so that probably means the map is probably based on the real world with slightly geographical differences but in the same locations Galar is definitely near Unova and Kalos just look at the pokemon in the Galar dex

In Xatu's gen 2 entry it mentions South America. Kanto Raichu's in S&M mentions India Ponyta's mentions Ayer's Rock (gen 2). The Pokemon world is clearly supposed to be Earth but slightly weird Also, as for Kanto people settling Alola is based on real life, where a very large population of Hawaii is Japanese.

You need to remember the maps in these games are inconsistent, and does not always HAVE to be the same size as the real world.
