I love when people ask "why x thing is expensive" especially in regards to arts and crafts. Why shouldn't it be? It's a tangible, handmade item that is very much unique and that goes through a long process to finish. This isn't mass marketed products that come from China. Artisans are very much artists, in fact they are the first artists and it takes years if not a whole life to master one's craft. It is only fair that they sell their products at a higher price. It's very much a luxury item, Safi pottery is highly regarded in Morocco and elsewhere.

This is a very wise and thoughtful man. You can see he has learned so much about life just from looking within. It is my wish for this mans son to see how much dignity and value there is in this as his career path. He can modernize if he wishes, but I pray he carries on his fathers fine work.

Btw, we have the same kind of pottery here in India in most big cities at the outskirts you will find a caste of people called the "kumbhar" working on such vibrant and beautiful pottery. We dont value it as it is roadside albeit big makeshift shops.

Enamel or clear glaze?
@tegannottelling2 ай бұрын
clear glaze, the narrator doesn't understand pottery and I would bet his interpreter chose the word enamel. Though you can paint fired pottery with enamel it just won't last as long as glaze and isn't food safe. (Neither is earthenware technically, as it only has about 16% vitrification, but people have been using it for centuries)
