you know one of the things that makes Sega so cool these days is how cool they are over fan games and rom hacks and stuff. Even if they don't seem to know how to make a good Sonic game lately (shots fired... okay I haven't played frontiers yet so I can't judge) they're not stopping other people from trying. That's why them delisting all of these games feels like such a slap in the face for long time Sega fans. Welp, I have most of those games anyway, I still S3nK from Steam so that's good.

Sonic Origins is inferior to the actual classic games, thanks to the different physics engine not suited for the old level design, and replaced music. It's not as horrible as the GTA Trilogy, but it's still the same dangerous mentality; delist the old to make way for an inferior re-release. No game is safe from this.
@PikangsFutaba12 күн бұрын
While I like Sonic Origins, I DO know when others are right, and that statement of being inferior to the actual classics is totally true, but as you said, is much better than the GTA Trilogy, still that doesn't excuse to prevent other people playing the older versions (like in my case for example, I still find myself playing the original Sonic 3... & Knuckles more than the Origins versions... especially if I don't want to play as Amy).
@sonicmaiden28718 күн бұрын
I miss the time attack mode for the special stages in Sonic CD. Why the Sonic Origins version of Sonic CD doesn't have that?! Also MJ Sonic 3 music is superior to whatever the new songs in Origins for Sonic 3 are.
@PikangsFutaba8 күн бұрын
@@sonicmaiden2871 Funny enough, the Origins songs are actually from one of the Sonic 3 Prototypes/PC Sonic & Knuckles Collection, yeah, is baffling that unless people go to "questionable" methods to play the old versions, they are forced to use the re-releases (which usually are worse than the originals, in this case it could have been worse as is still good enough to not fully suck, but still), sure, the PC version of Origins can be modded to fix some of that stuff to some extent (like having limited lives in both normal and mirror anniversary modes which are in widescreen AND in Sonic 3 the MJ songs in the 3 zones that are featured) but it would take time to make them feel very close to the classics (I doubt they can do a 1 to 1 recreation)..
@sonicmaiden28718 күн бұрын
@@PikangsFutaba true and I know. Sadly I have the ps5 version so I can't mod that but I also have sonic mega collection on ps2 as well so I have a Sonic 3 version with the og music as well. Mega Collection is also on PC so you could pirate that since it's technically abandonware (aka i doubt Sega will ever rerelease that collection with the same name and that's what it makes it abandonware). I heard the best way to play Sonic 3 is Sonic 3 air which does require the rom file. That is a nice unofficial way to play it since it has lots of customisation options and plenty of mods released for it as well. Bit yeah thankfully we have plenty of options to play sonic 3 at least.
@PikangsFutaba8 күн бұрын
@@sonicmaiden2871 Oh yeah, A.I.R. , I'm lucky that I was able to get the delisted rom file from steam and I can play that version of Sonic 3 (and recently it got a mod to add Amy with her Origins/Superstars moves... and extras if you want to enable that while keeping the original physics, also giving the option for both the Prototype/Origins and good old classic MJ's tunes for the 3 Sonic 3 zones (let's be honest, unless if it's for curiosity or for a change, the MJ's tunes are what most players are going to use because obvious reasons)... oh, and also for good measure adding to Sky Sanctuary Zone in Sonic's route the Sonic 1 and 2 boss themes for the throwback boss fights), funny that I have the option to use GCN vanilla Mega Collection, Ps2 Mega Collection Plus, I still have both Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles to combine them in the full experience, A.I.R., the official emulation on Steam (that I got before it was delisted due to Origins release) and Origins, of all those choices, I go A.I.R., then any OG version related methods like Sonic Mega Collection and the actual Sega Genesis carts (special mention to the Sonic 3 Complete hack... which probably inspired A.I.R. , only difference is that if you have an Everdrive, that's the closest thing to A.I.R. you can have on an actual Sega Genesis or Emulators like Genesis Plus GX on Wii), and finally Origins (yup, again, the kinda worst way to play it... but compared to other non-emulated re-releases is still a good experience, especially if you have the PC version to axe the Prototype tunes in favor of MJ's tunes, while this is specific for Sonic 3, in general, while it's not a 1 to 1 experience for all 4 games, we have to admit they really did their best to make the games behave as close as possible to the original deal, sure, they failed in the long run, but they made sure the games worked almost 100%... I say that because there's a collection crash bug in Sonic 3 if you use the sound test code to remove the "& Knuckles" legends in Sonic 3 and enter the Slot Machine bonus stage, as soon as the game is about to make the bonus appear, the collection dies on you and it closes itself, on consoles you get the error message of course).

Some people don't have those same older consoles anymore either because they're not working or just wanted to upgrade. Some don't have PCs and such. Sure, these games have been in other previous consoles, but not everyone has the finances to go on ebay to get a lot of those classics and hell, I wouldn't wanna buy a lot of older games from randoms who juiced up the price and main devs aren't even getting money from it. Accessibility and preservation should be important. Especially when, even some consoles don't have backwards compatibility or support certain games.

Maybe under Nintendo's definition of piracy, Sega is in the wrong here. If those games remain in stores, they would be in violation of the law, according to Nintendo. To stay safe, they have to delist every classic rerelease that are emulated, including Sega Ages and the Nintendo Switch version of Yakuza Kiwami removing the arcade games is part of that first step. It sucks, but Nintendo has the power to strong-arm anybody who goes against them. As for Jet Set Radio, there could be a soundtrack dispute with the original composer as he and Sega don't seem to be in good terms, and Crazy Taxi once again is experiencing licensing issues with the music, as some of the indie rock groups in the rerelease may be indie no more or now require royalties that Sega no longer wants to pay. In addition, Sonic Origins will have its Plus DLC delisted for the Game Gear games in the near future, unless Sega can release a stripped-down Plus DLC that only removes the Game Gear games.
