*** Apologies. I made a mistake with opening maps numbers, as some of those championships are pre-1929. Also the stadio comunale of Turin isn't the allianz stadium, it's the current Olimpico Grande Torino. sorry for the mistake!!!

Same as England with South and North. It’s economics. Money is in the North in Italy and in the South in England. A pity that great historic teams like Sheffield Wednesday are not in Premier League

To have a good competitive football team you need big money. That happens to be in the north of Italy with the two football team Inter( Owned by the Moratti's family ), AC Milan (owned by Berlusconi) and Juventus (FIAT Agnelli Property).

A city like Palermo, the pride of Sicily, deserves a stable and competitive club but sadly the mentality in southern Italy is chaotic and terrible. 😔

And Juve alone account for over 1/3. It's sad that southern teams like Bari and Foggia have all but disappeared, they enjoyed some good times in the 1990s.

In my opinion Lecce also has an intelligent scouting system (probably even more intelligent than Napoli). They mostly go into obscure leagues in Eastern Europe such as the Slovakian league or the Polish League and unearth gems there without paying a serious transfer fee and they are one of the Southern teams doing it right. Almqvist for example developed into a very capable winger under the Aquile and he was playing for a mid table Polish club before he was signed. Krstović is even more impressive as Lecce took a shot on a forward who played in one of the weakest league in Central Europe (the Slovak league) and it paid off. Even Lecce youth intake is improving as they have quality scouts looking at the Danish market in order to bring talented Danish players. This is in contrast to teams like Crotone or Benevento who get promoted to Serie A (by luck since the Serie B was a joke until recently) with a Serie C squad, loan in half of their entire squad then get relegated and they go on a downwards spiral. In fairness similar things happened to Frosinone in Central Italy last season. Anyway great video and keep up the great work
@BuckFCКүн бұрын
I think when i read something like this i get really excited becuase i love to play the game football manager and scouting in obscure leagues is exactly how to cheaply build a sustainable club and that hypes me up to see lecce do that. Your comment makes me want to support lecce when they play.. so thank you for that. Hopefully lecce can continue that excellent scouting trend and youth development and maybe we could see them in the conversation of european spots if its done correctly. I appreciate the comment thank you

In addition to that, Lecce have also presented the project for a new and modern training center, something that a big Southern team such as Napoli do not have.
@roberw19126 сағат бұрын
In England we do have an over representation of London at least 6 teams in the Premier League (30%) because London has more money. Milan, Turin, Genoa and Bologna are very big cities with money, but AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus have historically generous owners which pumped money into the teams.
@AndreaXVСағат бұрын
Also winning gets you more wins so it's all a big snowball effect that started out when the league was at its start.
@roberw1912Сағат бұрын
@AndreaXV that's true, I think the Northern dominance in England is a result of the league starting there first and there was few Southern teams until 50 years after it's foundation.

Great analysis. You include Serie B images of Palermo, a very important Sicilian city. It was in Serie C in 2022, and shortly before in D. The southern teams, even in C, can get 20,000 to 30,000 spectators. Catania, for example, and like Palermo it was in D, 2 years ago, after failing, financially. Lecce is holding on, in A, for the third year, with a tiny budget, and gets many supporters. Compare teams like Como and Monza, who have come from C, and have a solid financial platform. The south has a strong spectator base, and potential. Catania was assisted by an Australian son of Sicilians (like me, but my parents are from Messina). These teams need foreign investment and management, and also to negotiate the organised crime threat, always close to any financial activity. The differences, between eastern and western Germany, would also be a good comparator.
@mirkrishna4212Күн бұрын
thats because como has very rich owners and monza is in the same city as the monza gp so that makes sense.
@BuckFCКүн бұрын
I like palermo and i hope to see them in serie a.. lecce is holding on and i hope they continue to do so. I would like to see a bit more representation of southern clubs not just in titles. Thanks for the response i appreciate it.
@BuckFCКүн бұрын
I didnt even think of that comparison either! Very interesting
@pierpaoloparisi2049Күн бұрын
@BuckFC The reasons for the comparison are extremely interesting. Football in Europe basically substituted for war. Italy was extremely regional, with fierce rivalries between city states, especially those close, eg Pisa and Florence. Mussolini saw the propaganda value of football, and "nationalised" it. He required players to play for teams outside their home area, as previously they never did. With 2 World Cup wins, and gold at Berlin 1936! Germany too had historical fragmentation, I notice a few of the players in the Eintract team, that played Real at Hampden, were from Frankfurt.

Similar with England. Most the successful clubs come from the north. Also in Spain, the southern clubs haven’t got much between them, except Sevilla 7 Europa leagues. The dominate domestic teams are from Madrid in the centre then further north, or north eastern.

Pretty sure that the Allianz Stadium is the old Delle Alpi, the Comunale is the current Torino Stadium. Also, I believe a lot of it has to do with how much richer Lombardy and its surrounding regions are to everywhere else in Italy, a bit like London in England, you have teams like Monza, Milan, Inter, Atalanta and Como in Serie A, 1 region (there’s 20 of them) making up 20% of the entire league , with a similar story in Serie B (Brescia, Cremonese, Mantova…) despite the Serie C being almost designed to prevent that from happening ( a format made of 3 different Serie C group stages, that represent the north, center and southern regions respectively) . Also northern cities tend to attract more foreign investors, Monza are bankrolled by the Berlusconi Family, but aside from them, Atalanta sold a majority share to American investors, Como are owned by an Asian Billionaire, AC Milan and Inter are owned by Americans too etc..
@BuckFCКүн бұрын
You are completely correct about the stadium thing. I made a mistake on that one. Following up. Thats really interesting. I didnt realize how much it ran into serie b, but playing football manager i do know serie c is three different regions which mitigates this whole thing… very interesting. Youd almost think there could be a way to regionalize the league and then combine it through cups idk.. your comment gave me an idea how to make it better but the idea is still in its infancy

The map at 0:11 isn't correct because even if you use only championships disputed after 1929 (and no one uses those) then inter wouldn't have 20 titles, as the first one was won in 1910. And the stadio comunale of Turin isn't the allianz stadium, it's the current Olimpico Grande Torino
@BuckFC2 күн бұрын
I appreciate that correction. Thats my mistake upon writing it must have glanced over the fact that juventus built a new stadium. The info i found for inter was 20 titles another oversight by me. 3 of their titles were pre 1929. I hope even with the mistakes you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching
@antonellogiannuzzi66092 күн бұрын
@BuckFC yes I appreciated the video. As a Southerner another thing I may add is the monopoly of the support by the "strisciate". Most of the people in the north support either inter, Milan or Juve. Most of the people in the center support either inter, Milan or Juve. Most of the people in the south support either inter, Milan or Juve. Only Napoli, the Roma club and maybe Fiorentina have a broader regional support while the other clubs tend to have a strong support in the city they represent but weak outside, with many having a big 3 as a main club and their local as a second. There isn't a big "support your local" culture like in England and you can see this in attendances. In Italy a stadium half full is normal below serie A while it's considered a disgrace in England
@BuckFCКүн бұрын
