“Why Is She Not Publishing It?” Angela Rayner Under Pressure Over Council House Claims

Angela Rayner said she would not publish the tax advice she received on the sale of her council house, as Sir Keir Starmer backed his deputy’s decision and expressed his “full confidence” in her amid fresh scrutiny over her living situation a decade ago.
Ms Rayner said she would only release the “personal” information if the Conservatives calling for her to do so publish theirs.
It comes after Greater Manchester Police said it was reassessing its decision not to investigate allegations she gave false information on official documents, after pressure from Conservative Party deputy chairman James Daly.
Labour’s deputy leader has faced questions about whether she paid the right amount of tax on the 2015 sale of her council house due to confusion over whether it was her principal residency.
The senior Labour MP on Thursday again insisted she had “done absolutely nothing wrong” and took legal advice that no rules were broken.

Has it yet been proved she illegally evaded her taxes or is your natural bias simply assuming she did ? I prefer to wait for the facts before reaching a judgement. Taking tax advice in order to avoid paying a penny more tax than absolutely necessary is very sensible, I recommend it.

Most of the people who are paid really well evade tax. She has not been proven to have. All have offshore accounts tax avoiding accountants. Sports stars and their agents. Tv and radio stars not just politicians. Billionaires who avoid tax. There would be no room in prison for them all. I do not believe her other property was her primary residence, especially as they were close together and children were registered in the other house. More realistic is that her brother was living there, she was living with her husband. And so what is she worked her way up?! TAX POINT I am a tax adviser in public practice and I would advise any client in Rayner’s position that she may have Capital Gains Tax to pay on the disposal for the period after her marriage, depending on whether she made an election for it to be treated by HMRC as her principal private residence or not.

As I understand it, a married couple cannot have two primary homes legally when it comes to tax. They have to pay 28% tax on any profits on the sale of their second home, which was reported to be £48,000 - so the CGT would be £13,440 (not £1500 as claimed here). Secondly, many councils will charge much higher council tax on a second home yet not only was she paying council tax as though both homes were their primary homes, she also supposedly claimed an additional discount for being a single person living there according to this video? Thats a whole load more wrong again and not only alot of tax evaded but even fraudulently claiming for discounts not due. Even worse if her brother was living there...! And lastly, she says that she wants to close the concession that allows people to buy their own council home at a discount because its an 'unfair tory policy', whilst both she and her husband were happy to profit from it! I suspect she may have got legal advice saying its OK, but that advice would have been based on the facts as she presented them to the advisor - which might have had incorrect or missing information in them. Advice is only as good as the information you give the advisor...

Capiitol gains tax on around 50k is 5 grand not 1500 quid trust me I know because I had to pay mine recently. 5k is a lot of money to some people. if the profit on the house was 50k or more it will be a significant amount of capitol gains tax to pay and you have to declare it to the tax office yourself if you dont you can get in a lot of trouble and for every day it is overdue it goes up and the debt builds and builds rapidly.
