Any time the budget for a major project is announced, double it. Same with the time (they claim) it will take. Then it might actually come in under (double the) budget. They give the cost (and time) that they think will get approved, then rely on the sunk-cost fallacy to get you to provide the extra cash once it has started. And it works. When have you ever heard of a major project being cancelled halfway-through because it was running over-budget?

The great irony, of course, is that costs would get a lot more competitive if the government actually WAS willing to cancel a project

But that would be “admitting defeat” and would get you crucified, and we can’t have that. Almost as bad as taking responsibility for something!

Ah yes the episode with the old guy who everyone including Nat and Tony liked. He almost fixed this entire issue and made things better only for the budget to cut the second start program.
@Ben-ee6hr Жыл бұрын
This was genuinely the episode that made me that saddest. The old employee comes in and comes up with fixable solution based on years of experience and it gets tossed out anyway.
@g-forcemapping8454 Жыл бұрын
@@Ben-ee6hr exactly before this I was able to put up with most of the shit the show through at me. However, after seeing Nat just light up at him calling her sweetie and Tony genuinely feel hopeful and upbeat about his solution I was so happy...until I am pretty sure Jim and Rhonda teamed up and convinced the minister to cut the second start program and continued to support the third party contractors. I mean it made me depressed for days and I also came to like the old guy. :(

Thanks Working Dog. I am loving these shorts on KZbin. I’m finding can’t even sit through one episode due to the frustrations the characters go through. Maybe it’s bringing up some undiagnosed PTSD from previous workplaces I’ve worked in. Haha Byway, as many have said over the years, Utopia, Hollowmen, etc, some of the best writing out there.

The thing is though, the building authority is competent. It's the pollies that constantly stuff things up in Utopia and probably IRL too.
