Nobody in this comments section knows the significance of this camera for its price. Not blasting anyone who doesn't know, because not everyone is a photographer. But every other 100+ megapixel medium format camera is twice to three times the price of this one. On top of that, it has more features AND is more portable. Also in-body stabilization is crazy for a sensor this size...

3:20 or so, the battery's capacity rating in miliamp hours isn't the only factor that matters. Battery voltage is also important. In phones it's prettymuch universally a single cell, so it's always 3.7 volts, and more miliamp hours means more capacity, but if you're thinking "Well my phone has a 4000mAh battery what gives?", the difference there is voltage. That battery is running at least 2 cells, more likely 3 given its size and capacity. Voltage times miliamp hour capacity gives you watt hour capacity, which is the actual amount of energy stored in the battery. A 1300mAh battery at 11.1V stores 14.43 watt hours of energy. A 4000mAh phone battery at 3.7V stores 11.1 watt hours of energy.

As far as i can tell this is a nice camera to have. Medium Format is a very big deal. IBIS is making a huge difference and Phase Detection AF is much better than contrast-based AF. But the only thing that is bothering me is that it has SD card slots. I mean you can shoot redundant. But 102 Megapixels and 4K 10bit video needs real write speeds. They have already been doing that for years, the "4K" and option is actually about the same resolution as 4k laser and vastly superior to your run of the mill 2k digital IMAX, as they are using the same 8K Red cameras Hollywood does. What he was talking about was the value sentiment due to the fact the purpose of the camera is for shooting still images and not video but they included it anyway, as LTT has already been running around with better cameras that set them back $20,000 USD a piece and for the whole setup for one camera over $100,000.

That is a brilliant customizable medium format camera and its cheaper than its competitors. Medium Format are best for Large studio and billboard photography applications. Their sensors have always given colour accuracy and were the benchmark back in the day 2001 their photographic printers were fully digital and had in that time CCD 20 megapixels (in 2001 ) to scan and print from film, every pro-photographer I dealt with then insisted on having their pictures print on the fuji printer. The GFX50R (that is the older brick style body) can be had for about 2k used now. It is the same sensor size, smaller, lighter and takes the same lenses. And if you want to adapt lenses, the Fujis all have a built-in mechanical shutter. If you want to get into medium format, that is the one to buy right now.
@JokingJay4 жыл бұрын
It's pretty common that a camera with a USB-C port will need a charger/battery pack that supports Power Delivery in order to use it while accepting power at the same time. In fact, a quick Google produces this handy tidbit from the GFX 100's "features" page on Fuji's site: "the camera can be powered and charged by connecting an AC power adapter (optional) to the power plug input connector or a USB Power Delivery device to the USB-C port." FWIW, most laptops with USB-C charging won't charge at all if you're not using a USB-C PD source that also supports the specified wattage delivery, and I'd expect LTT/LMG to have a better handle on that reality. Likewise, there's most certainly a USB-C PD charger or battery bank floating around there (Anker makes plenty of them - shameless sponsor spot time?), so the battery criticism is actually a case of Fuji listening to consumers but consumers not listening back...

It's interesting to watch videographer review a medium format still camera. I rarely hold my medium format camera when shooting. Not even touching it to release the shutter. High res digital is very costly to get into. When I started shooting in 5x4 in large format, my camera, lens and film backs set me back just under £500 the tripod I already owned. A digital back to fit my camera is about US$30,000! Making it prohibitive to buy and play with.

Phase Detection AF faster and more accurate for photography than Contrast Based AF? For video, yes. For photography this isn't much of a given. Actually, quite the contrary and Panasonic's G9 with DFD on board might just be the fastest focusing camera.
@Bayonet18094 жыл бұрын
Exactly, and this is also the reason why Nikon's mirrorless cameras for example use a second contrast detect step when in single point mode, and even offer a "pinpoint AF" setting that relies on contrast detect entirely. Phase detect's biggest benefit is the lack of micro pulsing in continuous video AF that so often plagues CDAF implementations.
@Bayonet18094 жыл бұрын
Also, the GFX100's use of PDAF has meant that it has visible banding in shadow areas when the exposure is boosted in post, which ruins the usability of those 100MP files for landscape shooters, so it would have been far better for Fuji to keep using CDAF for their GFX line.
@alexanderzweifel97624 жыл бұрын
@@Bayonet1809 And since I presume the target audience for this type of camera is mostly interested in photography... Looks like CDAF or some hybrid solution (Sony and Nikon - like you pointed out) would have been the way to go. Too bad the CDAF=SH*T stereotype is still propelled in a (otherwise comprehensive and educated) video from a proffesional.

IBIS on such a high megapixel count sensor should be a must due to the amount of motion blur you could potentially introduce when shooting. I have used the GFX100 as I borrowed it from a friend and got to try it, it`s a beast, but you only need it if you are doing commercial jobs, those are the ones allowing you to pay for it. Agency clients demand certain resolutions. Also, without going into too much details, I wanted to mention that an aperture of F4 on a medium format produces a way more blurred image than a 2.8 lens on full frame, so the point he makes about shooting video with it is kinda false. :)

For a professional in extreme resolution... if you want to be able to use 100 Megapixel you have to use an aperture of max 5.6 and a lens which is sharpest there (diffraction is a bitch and the lens need to be physical perfect to use 100 Megapixel at aperture 5.6). With aperture 8 you can only use 50Megapixel. If you are in the field of high resolution it is better to use the older 50 Megapixel version because you don'T want to and are often not able to do focus stacking images to get a better depth of field. In real high resolution when you are not focusing at infinity it you need more depths... We are already at a point where we give malus points with wrong camera settings, because we need real high resolution images and not at the sensor interpolated images because of diffraction.

You should definitely try the 110mm f2!! Great fun, absolutely beautiful and really shows off the autofocus upgrade :)
