Looking at the seasonally low water levels in the Talbot canals portion of the Trent Severn Waterway (TSW). This is done every year, as Parks Canada (the agency responsible for the TSW) purposefully lowers the water level along many portions of the TSW in anticipation of Spring runoff.
Parks Canada offers Water Levels updates online, along with historical levels for that location. You can access it here; www.pc.gc.ca/apps/WaterLevels...

Ya, I wanted to share what it looks like now, but add some summer views to make it more appealing. The marina crew started launching this week and are on track to have all the boats floating by next week - when Boogaboo is back on the water!

I didn't realize that they did this over the winter, but it makes perfect sense. Thanks for showing us something new about your beautiful area of the world. I've been to Haliburton many years ago. My wife and I would love to travel to your area some time (perhaps by boat). Also.. to answer your question, we launched our boat here in Maryland last Saturday (April 6). Had to back the boat (/99 310 Sundancer) into the slip with 30kt gusts! It was a heck of a start to our boating season. Managed to get in the slip without incident. Can't wait to see you and anchor girl (and the cats) in the water.

Thanks for your insights. Although Haliburton isn't accessible by boat from our area, it shares much of the same beautiful geography. What IS accessible from/to this area of your home waters in Maryland. A short trip aboard your 310 Dancer through the Chesapeake, north to NYC, through the a portion of the Erie Canal, a short crossing of Lake Ontario and 💥, you're at Trenton; kzbin.info/www/bejne/emO5hpuAi86co5Y 😉

I saw the lift late last year in Peterborough while on a work trip and was surprised to see it dry. I'm from Atlanta, so I had no idea about this waterway until I came up there and researched it.

Obviously max depth at the center, but looks like you lose a lot if you stray to the sides. Are there any ‘no passing zones’ on the canal ?
@BoatingWithBoogaboo

If anyone is crazy (I'm using a mild term here) enough to try and pass another boat through this stretch, the lock staff would definitely take action - not to mention the P/O'd other boaters!!

Understand, but what about opposing traffic? Upbound vs downbound?
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo 3 ай бұрын
Check out my videos to see how traffic works Ali g this stretch. Given that these locks are no more than a couple thousand feet apart - and every boat traveling here is passing through a lock - the lock staff do a good job of timing the boats so that everyone can play nice 👍

What is the water depth there when at normal
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo 3 ай бұрын
Parks Canada maintains a minimum 5' of depth throughout the entire system, but I'm guessing that it's more like 7' in these man made canals. Let's put it this way, we've passed through there with no problems on any of our boats, including the 400 Sedan Bridge. Plus, we've seen yachts with 4-5' draught passing through here easily - including the 120' long Kawartha Voyageur cruise ship. Here's one of my videos that shows both of those vessels at Lock 40, which was the lock I am flying over in this current video (and yes, I have written permission from Parks Canada to fly my drone over the locks 👍); kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJexiZ5pfZKtis0si=NOMVQ-CVsPNq2DR9

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo impossible. Your boat is to high. 8ft clearance cause the bridges don’t lift anymore. From lake st louis, you would have to go thru the st Catherine and st lambert locks in the seaway to make it to old Montreal

Here's a complete overview of the entire Trent Severn Waterway - a four part series I produced nearly 10 years ago ( kzbin.info/aero/PLKhjT5kr2l2Fn8iZ4SCQ8YjKc9qTQBDOZ&si=25sSlATg0BOH30nO ), complete with where it is located, the lakes it connects, as well as the many canals and rivers that make up this unique, 240 mile long system. Having produced and shared hundreds of videos - many including Google Maps locations and routes - I mistakenly took for granted that most of the regular visitors to the channel would have a good idea as to where it is. No worries and my apologizes for making that assumption. I think I'm gonna do a standalone video to provide a clearer overview of this beautiful area of the world that we are so fortunate to enjoy firsthand.
