In the old days there were no Private Certifiers, just local Council building inspectors that in my experience were all hard as and by-the-book arbitrators of what was compliant or not. The whole building industry has been undermined by shoddy workmanship and governance. This has to stop and we have to get back to our Aus Standards that have worked for decades. Not one new development in our area is 100% compliant and are all a disaster waiting to happen. Agree all, warranties have to be 10 years min and with that, one issue and straight to Fair Trading with fines and penalties waiting for the slack builders. In most cases, short cuts are saving just a couple of thousand dollars, only to cost 10's of thousands to fix just years down the track. Time the State Gov stepped up and fixed this woeful situation.

Royal Commissions for everything? That's not a solution. A Royal Commission will just affirm what is patently obvious. The barrier for entry into the construction industry needs to be raised back to where it was 20 or 30+ years ago. I said raise the barrier, it appears that there are, in fact, no barriers to entry. This needs sorting. All these deficiencies and failures are totally avoidable just by employing correct building practices with quality materials and sound designs. Our friend here, Mr Site Inspection, is part of the solution. He (correct personal pronoun I hope, pardon me if it's not. Where are our priorities..?) is making a great contribution by highlighting the sorry state of the industry and educating the unsuspecting public who are totally dependent on and trust the builders they pay. This is a huge betrayal of trust. This isn't school, kids, where the passmark is 50%. This is real life. In real life the passmark is 100%! Sad, sad, sad.

Nothing like the flat-pack housing industry of Australia for the last 15 years. The fact that the warranty of any part of a house can be a little as only 2 years is insane. Any building should have a 10 year guarantee minimum.

The crooked politicians are getting ‘greased’ by the building industry to reduce the warranty periods. Like the boiling frog, year by year, the warranty periods are being eroded. When new CARS are getting 10 years warranty, WITH FIXED PRICE SERVICING, and new homes are getting 3-7years, something is VERY wrong !

@@KieranShort Depends on how the warranty is worded. eg. "lifetime warranty" = not the buyers lifetime, rather lifetime of the product, which they often don't specify how long that is, essentially making it pointless and a marketing trick.

@@shoti66 Problem is houses are made of components of many different manufacturers and the workmanship of different tradespeople - manufacturers will always find a way to deny warranty claiming it wasnt installed correctly and tradespeople will say the product is defective = swings and roundabouts. Kia, single manufacturer that sells directly to the buyer, with mass production of every component, meaning it would cost them next to nothing to repair anyway. Having such a long warranty offer is the selling point, it would increase their sales profit far beyond what it costs them to do repairs under said warranty.

Well well we’ll try to see Sydney. First day brand new appartments. No drainage all common areas . 2 side to side high rise .rain Top Roofs all like a Poolside 4ft high over 8weeks No on Property Management. All took off. 😂 back to new Zealand. Yep! Well all sewerage floats pool top rooftop. Then flew down fire stairs . 😂. Then 2years later still same . Sewage pipes non existent. 😆. Then the family say why did we leave there . Answer: why don’t you live there .. stinks like 💩 and coming up always in all garages you can see it all . As covered up by cut off boxes ! No one cares . Not my unit . The people that own it are 👎lost . That’s what I know . All this is bad. Only get worse . Obviously.

How many young families have bought non-compliant dumps with their hard earned savings only to end up in massive debt trying to rectify these serious issues. Yes I did that. However no one told me to do that. I have something to do with the industry, which is why it occurred to me. Even then I initially forgot to budget for it and so it was an unplanned expense. It likely would not even occur to the average new home owner. They aren't experts on how to monitor a house build.

I want to encourage everyone to learn from these videos however always get a professional in to do inspections and for that professional to write a report for you, Because the builder will laugh in your face and say you are not an expert and they are not wrong. So learn, watch what they are doing say nothing and call the pros.

We really enjoy your videos, nice work. It could be worthwhile doing a video on inspection responsibilities (i.e. engineering footing & frame, building surveyor sign-off). I’m constantly explaining these roles to homebuilders, along with the gaps in responsibility (e.g. I’ve never seen a building surveyor get on a roof for occupancy).

The banks should also be telling new home owners that they need to budget for independent inspections during the build. The bank don;t have to make the loan conditional on those reports but they should make sure the loan provides for it. It should be an automatic amount attached to the loan so that (a) people get a heads up that they should be getting that done and (b) people have some funds for it. It is in the banks interest.

Back in the 80s when you knew your bank manager, when I got my home loan the banks had inside home inspectors that would inspect the house before any checks where handed over those days are gone, they give money to anyone even if they can't afford repayments. In the 80s a home loan was based on one income the husband in case the wife got pregnant they knew payment are made regardless, now the lend money with both working husband and wife she gets pregnant and how does the hubby pay back on his own. I don't know how they do it, then new cars new furniture. We had second hand furniture for years before buying new things one thing at a time cars where 10 years old we serviced them our self to save money. These days everyone needs everything in a new house why. Thank Christ we were smart to save didn't go out every night I worked 3 jobs for 30 years now debt free, except I didn't know builders would stoop so low and distroy a family dream when they go home and sleep at night I wonder how they sleep.

I have the same house sinking, after winning at vcat builder offered to unpin the sinking part of the house, i know it was wrong unfortunately vcat will except if a builder offeres to fix it, knowing how this builder operates i made sure no gag orders signed plus had plan B put in place so if the builder to short cuts and failed to comply with the vcat orders they would be held accountable. In 2020 work started woth a engineer to design underpinning and drainage system designed by a civil engineer, well total screw up since the vcat agreement was to have the slab jacked up to pre settlement floor levels. Well lucky i did my homework researched how underpinning was done and how it should be done spacing between the piers how deep, but a soil test has to be done to determine how deep the piers had to go and find solid ground or rock. None of that was done after the so called underpinning company drilled into every storm water pipe plus our main power cable pulled out, i dont know how these guys didnt die honestly. Once the pored the piers holes i noticed no room to get hydrolic jacks under the slab and install the steel support brackets and 20mm plates to spread the weight. Soon as i found out i sent everyone home got the Victorian state manager to come down and see the shit mess they did, soon as he arrived i am sorry ill call a underpinning company, i said what? You stated at vcat you had a team of experts underpeinning company to do the work, he replied oh no no these are just our in house concreters that do driveways only. No could read the engineers plans. So now the drainage system designed by a civil engineer has failed due to no one tested the flow of AG pipe befors back filling no risers installed to flush the system out since this AG pipe goes 3 sides of the house tnere about 300metres of AG pipe installed now thats failed because its flowing backwards, the piers have failed because the incompetence of the concreters after drilling into our storm water pipes they thought to fix it them self by going to bunnings and buying the 4 inches wide rubber joiners which are useless under ground then as the slab moved it popped those rubber joiners with so much rain july 2020 i pushed to have hydrostatic pressure testing of all our plumbing, they failed 5 times and 5 times the front yard had to be dug up by hand to locate the faults what they found was these rubber joiners had opened up allowing more water to soak into the soil under the waffle slab creating now a bigger problem. These builders are getting away because they know 98% of people cannot afford the legal bills, so they keep hiring crap cheap trade, because any smart good trade will not work for them. So i have inside knowledge on how our builder operates its not good.

@@Android811 I agree we just emailed the director of the company and CEO sent them our engineering report. And demanded a meeting mid November. If the director does not show up we a leaving having reporters ready outside. This has been going on for 9 years this year my daughter was only little no she cannot enjoy her new house now 13 years old due to mould and moisture in the walls the plaster is wet. She has Asthma so the moment she walks in the house day after she start short breathing snizzing runny nose. It's a joke that these large volume builders hide behind their lawyers knowing dam well they are scaring people over with very cheap work. We are not asking for a castle only what we paid for not a f.......king lemon. I am done with them they had 8 years to fix it yet builders own engineer said it's a problem builder didn't like what their own engineer said in the report and pressured them to change the report in the builders favour. We found out only due to there own incompetence, instead of creating a new email they pressed foward email to us with the report and all the email chain attached what the builder wanted out of the report. So now it's our game or we expose them for what they are scums. Regardless if it's at vcat or or our self going public which I don't think they want there own dirty laundry put out in public.

Does any builder install compliant RWHs. It seems to be a fault on every building you check?
